….Statesmanlike. Principled, clear and concise.

Whole other level from some of the current incumbents in govt.

Wonder what he’s like as an MP?

Come the next election, if Labour have people like that in senior roles, they could actually be electable?
@ChardonnaysPetDragon oh for goodness sake. If you truly believe that then I’ve lost hope completely. I understand the GC point of view but it seems to have become a single track fanatic issue for many on here at the expense of reason and proper critical thinking.
Really reason and proper thinking

Women and reproductive rights are protected in law.
In the US the abortion debate is about people needing abortions.
Well sometimes the sperm producer may feel that being pregnant is not for him, and if he is actually a woman what's to stop her from taking action?
So how should the legislation be written to carefully excluded that woman?
How about the man who is pregnant and he wants to have a legal abortion how are these ovum producing men going to be written into the legislation?

Will it be body part people words replacing women in law?

Now how about the current UK Law sex is a protected characteristics and women get legal protection against discrimination due to pregnancy. How should these laws be expanded to include men who have babies?

The recognition of the word woman to mean some females and some males changes the effectiveness of the protections provided for women as a sex group.

Women’s rights are not a single issue.
Freedom of expression is closely tied to that.

@BananaBlue

Re the cervix comments, wasn’t he referring to trans men?

I.E, people born female but trans to male still need smears if they have a cervix don’t they?

I’m not sure if I’ve got the terminology right, but I didn’t think he meant those born male growing a cervix.

Sadly, nope. It was during the whole politicians being unable to say “only women have a cervix” debacle in September, and when pressed on live tv I think during Labour conference he genuinely believed that transwomen developed an actual cervix thanks to medical treatment. He displayed incredible ignorance, aside from the whole sex matters issue itself, it was just such a audacious lack of understanding yet he was happy to be slurring women who have a different opinion to him on the matter he clearly knew nothing about, it’s really not a good look when asking people to trust your judgement on everything else we need politicians to act on our behalf on.

I would NEVER vote Tory.

Not the brightest and prone to hissy fits on R4 interviews, doesn't like women who 'hoard rights' and is not well liked among the women in his CLP. Also lies about whether or not certain issues come up on the doorstep.
Labour Party member but thankful he's not my MP.

Very regular listener of LBC, I gave David Lammy a few weeks but now I just have to switch over when he starts, sanctimonious man ( gave up on him before his dinosaur comments)

hivemindneeded · 13/12/2021 21:37

@Cwenthryth

He can have his moments but he lost me completely when he called women “dinosaurs hoarding rights” for fighting to protect single sex spaces. He also thinks that cervixes can be grown in a male body. I’d say try to listen to him on LBC - sometimes he is on the money, often however he is just so convinced that he is right and everyone else are bigots that he becomes pretty closed minded and just a typical lefty bloke ranting away despite a woeful lack of actual knowledge and understanding on the subject he is prattling on about.
I worked with him years ago and he was quite lordly - very aware of his own status. I was quite disappointed - had expected him to be more statesmanlike.
OhWhyNot · 13/12/2021 21:48

If he is planning on what to say he can be great

Being questioned what he doesn’t want to answer not so much

And lost all respect for him now as he clearly has none for women speaking out about safety concerns an issue he can’t relate to being a man

ImmutableSexQueen · 13/12/2021 21:53

Lammy? That one? What's the phrase now, ah yes, 'Dinosaurs hoarding rights'. Pfft to Lammy.

setthecontrols · 13/12/2021 21:53

Thicko misogynist
