….Statesmanlike. Principled, clear and concise.

Whole other level from some of the current incumbents in govt.

Wonder what he’s like as an MP?

Come the next election, if Labour have people like that in senior roles, they could actually be electable?

GrinI needed a laugh, thanks OP.

MarshaBradyo · 13/12/2021 08:22

@FreeBritnee

He would throw my rights under the bus in a heart beat. Fuck no.
Yep
borntobequiet · 13/12/2021 08:24

@FreeBritnee

To be clear this has nothing to do with David Lammy particularly. It's any of these civil servants who pander to the far left on Twitter. I think they're far more dangerous than the Tories.
Who are these people, then? I’d like to see an example.

God, I can't bear the singletracked mind set of some on MN. Yet half of the above are willing to vote for the Tories, the mist misogynistic cunts in history. I'm proud to be called TERFy (here's looking at you DS) but it's tiresome.
Are they?

They've had two women PMs and their list of women in ministerial role is impressive.

They also don't tend to call women cis.

Hiphopopotamus · 13/12/2021 08:36

@ChardonnaysPetDragon oh for goodness sake. If you truly believe that then I’ve lost hope completely. I understand the GC point of view but it seems to have become a single track fanatic issue for many on here at the expense of reason and proper critical thinking.

It’s probably a good idea not to name too many names. While this isn’t FWR, the Misogynist Monitors who like to keep an eye on Mumsnet feminists may still be watching & looking for chances to report posts for deletion.

Lammy’s dinosaur comments have also led to a lot of fun & are solely responsible for the dinosaur decorations on a lot of women’s Christmas trees this year. I’ve got three.

Why? A large proportion of women vote Tory, clearly they don't all think the party is completely misogynist. Why should it affect you if they think and vote that way?

Similarly many of us who are left wing are sick of holding our noses and voting for the slightly less shit party. There are certainly legitimate questions about why recent successful Labour women all seem to be conformist and dull, but strong ones get overlooked. I can't think of any pro-women labour policies at the mo.

I honestly don't understand how any woman can support a party which is making a concerted effort to throw away women's hard won rights.

That's what I would consider a lack of critical thinking.

borntobequiet · 13/12/2021 08:55

I was just surprised at the idea of civil servants being captured by the far left, meaning far left socialists. Now I realise that you meant a particular belief more associated with that faction.

borntobequiet · 13/12/2021 08:55

But not limited to it.

How can you talk about reason and critical thinking when labour are unable to do either.

When I hear politicians talking on Twitter soundbites I know we are absolutely fucked.

I hated the Labour Party after the Blair years (not anymore) but said if David Lammy was my mp I’d be forced to vote for him. He comes across so well! Sadly don’t think he has PM aspirations

BananaBlue · 13/12/2021 09:03

Re the cervix comments, wasn’t he referring to trans men?

I.E, people born female but trans to male still need smears if they have a cervix don’t they?

I’m not sure if I’ve got the terminology right, but I didn’t think he meant those born male growing a cervix.

BananaBlue · 13/12/2021 09:08

I like David Lammy.

He isn’t perfect but look at his opposite Dominic Raab, he of:
Men can be victims of misogyny
Significance of Dover/Calais
People using food banks aren’t poor but have cash flow issues

And other greatest hits.

Meceme · 13/12/2021 09:08

I believe he was referringto trans women who had undergone sex reassignment surgery creating a neo vagina. He seemed to suggest that they would then have or develop a cervix.

Lammy is one of those rare community first politicians who isn't afraid to stick up for principles. He did a good job at representing Tottenham. He is a little bit of a career climber. I haven't heard his views on women rights but they sound a little backwards!

IntermittentParps · 13/12/2021 09:15

@greatape

He was my MP many many moons ago when he was just elected. He was very present in the community.

My next mp was Iain Duncan Smith. Amazing what a move 5 mins up the road can do.....

God, that's bad luck!
BlameItOnTheBlackStar · 13/12/2021 09:17

Yeah he really fucked it for himself with the whole rights hoarding dinosaur nonsense.

Not that it seems to have done him any harm under Starmer...

dworky · 13/12/2021 09:27

Yeah, I used to think the same about him. Then he showed his misogynist arse by calling women dinosaurs for defending their existing rights.

Left me in no doubt that 'Women' are merely a political football for him.

misogynistic cunts vulva, vagina and cervix please!!

🤷🏼‍♀️

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 13/12/2021 09:45

I wish it was as easy as you say.

I don’t vote on a single issue. I wouldn’t vote Labour now, I read Das Kapital, I read Lenin’s letters, i was even a Marxist for as long ami was at university. I also read my way through everything that came out when Perestroika and Glasnost hit.

Labour now are lurching back to something that I grew out of, and identity politics reminds me very much of how everyone had to watch what they said, just as now. Or else.

So I hold my nose I vote Conservative.
