What do you do in the evenings?

Olympiadreamer · 12/12/2021 18:40

I'm looking to improve my evenings. I tend to just watch TV which can't be healthy every night (no kids and single).
Looking for new ideas.

Thank you.

I do exercise stuff three nights. The other four I watch telly. And tell myself I’ll do my cross stitch (I don’t)
Sometimes I go out for dinner with my DH, or see friends. Nothing exciting Grin

FindingMeno · 12/12/2021 18:44

I potter around doing random jobs and talk to the people who live in my phone.
I'm no good at watching TV.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/12/2021 18:46

My hobby is learning languages - so that is what I do whenever I have time to myself.
And I knit, research my family tree and I read / listen to books.

JuneOsborne · 12/12/2021 18:46

Reading and knitting and watching the TV. In the summer, I'm more likely than not outside, pottering outside in the garden.

MintJulia · 12/12/2021 18:49

Before DC, I used to meet mates for a drink after work, or drop into the village pub for one drink before going home to cook. I'd chat to neighbours or the bar staff or do a crossword and peoplewatch. It was lovely Smile

Now, I cook, help with homework, sort sports kit, battle to get ds to bed on time, then have an hour by myself before bed.

Spitspotsput · 12/12/2021 18:52

I’ve just finished cross-stitching a house. It took two months. I think I am about to start on a research marathon.

SnowyWinterFox · 12/12/2021 19:06

Before DC I used to go to language classes or maybe book club or the cinema.

Now it is making dinner, helping with homework, and my particular favourite ; playing 'I'll turn off the wifi now if you do not get off your ipad!'.

Bagelsandbrie · 12/12/2021 19:12

If I was single - and when I was single- I would force myself to go out more. I worked part time in a bar when now ex dh had the dc, I used to do exercise classes, etc etc. But now I’m middle aged and married I find my evenings are basically watching Netflix and eating too much cake / chocolate.

God life is boring isn't it?!

Spitspotsput · 12/12/2021 19:27

Depends what you call boring

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 12/12/2021 19:29

What stops you going out, doing sport, seeing people? Doing hobbies?

Apologies if these are not options for you (money wise or other reasons)

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 12/12/2021 19:30

After DD is in bed I catch up on a bit of housework, do some more work work and then I watch TV and knit or crochet till midnight/1am and go to bed till 6am (if I'm lucky and a dad hasn't decided to get up at 5).

KittenKong · 12/12/2021 19:30

Not nearly enough! I was looking forward to starting a class in feb as a warm up to a much longer/more intense one next September but for a few reasons that’s not looking likely - it’s a hands-on course that I can’t do at home, so i guess I am going to just have to read up on techniques and draw out my ideas...

eightmaidsamilking · 12/12/2021 19:31

Single parent to a teen, I work a lot, study, read, swim, yoga and Pilates. Got to the pub once a month, in the summer I play golf one night a week.

I’ve become a huge homebody and am having to force myself to go out to be honest.

StrongerOrWeaker · 12/12/2021 19:33

Go for a run
Cook new recipes
Sew
Read
Tv

misshoney37 · 12/12/2021 19:34

Finish work at 4:30. Tidy up and potter until 5. Watch TV or read until about 7 when we usually eat. Then dc bathtime, TV series together on the sofa then story. Once they are in bed dh and I will put a film on and go to bed around 11.

I used to go to a couple of exercise classes on weeknights or at least go for a dog walk but since being pregnant (and the weather turning) I just seem to want to stay home.

Inextremis · 12/12/2021 19:35

Creative cooking takes a while - I do a lot of Indian/Pakistani stuff, or a bit of baking. Then I (at age 62!) play The Elder Scrolls Online for a couple of hours (as does DH). We don't watch telly. Browsing MN, chatting to distant friends on Messenger, that sort of thing - or a nice long bath. Nothing very exciting, but I enjoy it.

Lyricallie · 12/12/2021 23:25

I decided to do a MSc part time in the evenings whilst working FT. I also go to he gym 3 times a week in the evening. We often have our friend over for dinner one night a week and play board games together. Watch TV, read, I volunteer at girlguides one night a week. Chat to my friends, house work. Tbh I don't know where the time goes.

Kite22 · 12/12/2021 23:31

God life is boring isn't it?!

Not in my experience.
I mean, I could list about 1000 things here that people can do with their evenings, but, as @MarleneDietrichsSmile has asked, perhaps you could tell us why you just watch TV every night, when you don't (as many on here will) have dc that you need to be in the house for ?

furbabymama87 · 12/12/2021 23:34

Drink wine and eat food.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 12/12/2021 23:34

I do choir on one night, exercise class two nights, read books

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/12/2021 00:25

Go out to gigs/dinner:theatre sometimes
Meditation group once a week
Read or watch docs or films sometimes
Ring friends
Yoga sometimes
I get up v early and have busy days so I like evening to be quite relaxed

Babababababybelll · 13/12/2021 05:38

Well yesterday evening me and dh made a Sunday dinner for the kids , we ate that and did a big wash up , wipe sides hang washing out and put rubbish out together.

Then I practiced my sign on him. (He knows none , but i have my first exam on Tuesday and i am wishing i had some practice partners)

Then i tided our room with the news on and he watched a film downstairs.

Thats not an uncommon evening, but during the week i occasionally have a club run to do , a reading book to read with the youngest, or about twice a week i have a bottle of fizz with my bestie.

Im quite happy with my lot.

But like you i do probably have too much telly

Depression. SAD. No one to do things with. Dog care hard to get in the evenings. No inclination to go out in cold, winter evenings.
