My colleague often comments that I don't wear much make-up, does my make-up routine sound unusual to you?

By the way, I NEVER leave the house without having applied the following -

Tinted moisturizer, eye shadow, blusher & lipstick!

She sometimes says, 'Oh you don't wear Foundation, do you'? And the other day, office chat turned to make-up and she said 'I don't think I've ever seen you wear Mascara"!

The fact is, I've got quite a high coloured skin tone, so I find tinted moisurizer enough, and have long, dark eyelashes & dark green eyes, so some light grey eyeshadow alone, is enough to emphasise the colour! Add blusher & lipstick, and I think I look 'made-up,' but maybe I don't?!

Would appreciate opinions, I'm surprised how much she notices tbh!

Her noticing this says more about her than you. Don't go considering it beyond thinking she's got an odd fixation on your routine

FindingMeno · 12/12/2021 16:19

I can't wear foundation without feeling like I've got a mask on.
And surely its much healthier to wear minimal/ no make up if you feel happy like that.
Everyone always has an opinion on everything. Ignore what others say.

How weird. I haven’t been arsed with makeup for the past 30 years or so so what you’re wearing sounds like more than enough to me.

Sounds great to me. What's it to her, anyway?

Immunetypegoblin · 12/12/2021 16:21

It's weird that she notices.

LawnFever · 12/12/2021 16:21

You’re under no obligation to wear any make up at all, I think your colleagues comments are weird tbh.

WisestIsShe · 12/12/2021 16:22

I'd probably say in a jokey tone, I wish dp paid as much attention to me as you do!

WorraLiberty · 12/12/2021 16:22

Opinions on what?

We don't know what you look like, so I guess your colleague is better placed to give her opinion.

Unless you want an opinion on you "NEVER leaving the house without tinted moisturizer, eye shadow, blusher & lipstick!"

In which case I think it's a shame for anyone to limit their lives in that way.

RedHot22 · 12/12/2021 16:23

Spin it

“You wear loads of makeup don’t you”

Figgygal · 12/12/2021 16:23

Ive never worn make up unless on nights out so she would love me lol

InTheLabyrinth · 12/12/2021 16:25

Just like Figgy I rarely wear makeup. My morning routine is soap and water. How would she deal with me?

ShirleyPhallus · 12/12/2021 16:25

It’s quite an unusual choice of base make up I think, quite old fashioned.

I’d have thought basic make up would be mascara, eyebrow pencil and foundation rather than eye shadow, blusher and lipstick

It feels like you’ve put your clothes on but not your underwear if that makes sense?

But her constant comments are rude

FeckTheMagicDragon · 12/12/2021 16:25

Does she wear a lot? Maybe you look good and she is wondering how you do it? I wear mascara (blonde invisible eyelashes) tinted moisturiser a little bit of blusher (look ill without it) and lip gloss (dry lips). But if I could get away without wearing any I would. Yours sounds fine!

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 12/12/2021 16:26

The current fashion for thick panstick foundation baffles me. The vast majority of people who use it have perfectly nice skin and would look better without it.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 12/12/2021 16:27

I wear none. If anyone told me that I would tell them to mind their own business.
I have bad hands and bad eyesight. So seeing anything or doing it is a challenge.
Why do these people think it is okay to be saying things like that. Why do they think everyone needs to hear what they think. How shockingly rude

RavenclawsRoar · 12/12/2021 16:27

Very weird she notices. I rarely wear make up to work and am certainly not alone. I have no idea what other colleagues do make up wise, unless I see them apply something or they tell me.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 12/12/2021 16:28

Not at all. I have:

Make up level one (e.g. popping into town) - Lipstick only
Make up level two (working in the office) - lipstick & eyebrows
Make up level three - (going 'out out') - above plus foundation, mascara and blusher.

NotAshamedToFancyTheGrinch · 12/12/2021 16:29

Ask her why she’s so obsessed with what you are or are not wearing.

daisypond · 12/12/2021 16:31

She shouldn’t be making personal comments at work. Most people I know don’t wear makeup on a daily basis.

swampytiggaa · 12/12/2021 16:32

I never wear makeup to work. I start at 5am so it’s enough effort to wash my face and brush my teeth 😂😂 I don’t even have to do anything with my hair since I went for a buzz cut…

NotAshamedToFancyTheGrinch · 12/12/2021 16:32

Or you could say, “I don’t need makeup to look good”

Ikeameatballs · 12/12/2021 16:34

I find it very odd that she comments! How rude!

My basic make-up is moisturiser, tiny bit of foundation in place of concealer, eyebrows and mascara. If I could choose only one thing it would be mascara but I can happily leave the house barefaced.

Animood · 12/12/2021 16:35

Her: "you don't wear much makeup, do you"

You: "I don't need to."

Poppy101010 · 12/12/2021 16:35

I'm so jealous ! I'd love to be able to get away with your make up routine. I have dull skin, sparse eyebrows and stumpy lashes. Unfortunately I need a full face just to look presentable :(

Never mind what the other girl said about you not wearing foundation. If you feel confident then that's all that matters . For some people less is more . Some people in my office wear no make up. It's just personal choice.

megletthesecond · 12/12/2021 16:36

I think her opinion doesn't matter. Don't worry about it. You do your make up, she can do hers.
