How have you upset your teenager today?

I took mine to the cinema and expected her to share her giant bag of popcorn. This was very unreasonable of me. Obviously.

I asked DD to buy a bunch of flowers from the supermarket for the house on the way home.

Apparently I have no idea how embarrassing it is to walk along the pavement carrying a bunch of chrysanthemums.

Elzbells · 11/12/2021 20:33

I am totally unreasonable, old and crusty because I won't let her have her belly button and nose pierced (she's 14).

Although I got a reprieve this afternoon when I graduated to "best mum ever" because I took her shopping and bought her a dress for a NYE party.

Shortly that's going back in the bin because it's unreasonable to expect her to eat dinner with us apparently.

Oh actually I have ruffled the peticoats of Non-Teen Ds all of this month with my Christmas toilet paper ( Dec 1st in this house Christmas loo roll, towels, drinking straws , shower curtain )
I insist he hangs it pattern side showing on the dangly bit . (Usually its DS that uses the downstairs loo BTW)

I know , I should thank my lucky stars I have a young man who changes the loo roll , RIGHT ?

I am obviously an Evil Old Haridan Grin

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/12/2021 20:44

I'm reading these with amusement. My DD is 8 and has a huff every time she is asked to tidy her room because 'it will take like six hours' and her friend will have stopped playing Roblox by then Grin. Dare I point out if she kept it tidy it wouldn't take so long.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 11/12/2021 20:54

Sorry, I have won at parenting today!
You may bow down before me, you may call me queen, you may kiss my hand and worship me (I will sanitise)

Today, for the first time in the history of the universe, my teen is happy! No eye rolls, no snappiness, she even came out of her room by choice, played with her younger sisters and had a laugh!

I dread tomorrow though, I feel like she will be playing catch up...but for now I am taking this and enjoying it!

friedeggandsauce · 11/12/2021 20:57

@nahnahna

I asked if he could remove his headphones and stop walking around doing stuff whilst watching stuff on his phone. Apparently that's a totally unreasonable request
This really annoys me. My youngest does this when she's getting a drink before bed, plugged in to her iPad. Grrrr

No No No dropped Grin my DS shared his bar of Cadbury Caramel with me , gave me half without too much wrestling !

Though I was making a batch of pizza dough , so he needs to Be Nice

You win, My DD stole my poppadum and didn't care. But she was happy so let it go.

I don't think my DD has ever shared her choc with me.

Lollipop999 · 11/12/2021 21:01

By not showing enough empathy when she told me that her best friend’s elderly cat had been put down...

CherryAndAlmond · 11/12/2021 21:03

I remembered that ds14 owes me £20. Apparently having to repay me is going to 'ruin Christmas' as it will take longer for him to save for some bit of tech he wants.

ToughTittyWhompus · 11/12/2021 21:04

13YO. Started her periods aged 11 so she’s been a joy for a while now.

Came home from her Dads at lunch, we went to my Grandparents who had put on a huge Christmas spread. She ate loads over the 6 hours we were there.

We got home at 8pm. She asked what’s for dinner Hmm I said cereal or sandwiches, I’m not making anything.

Her response?

“This is a fucking joke”

I responded with by throwing myself on the floor and saying “This house is a prison on planet bullshit”

She wasn’t amused, but elder DD was in fits of laugher Grin

Mrsbclinton · 11/12/2021 21:07

@Bettalife yours made me laugh out loud 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

SugarMiceInTheRain · 11/12/2021 21:12

By daring to ask him to help me put some shopping away because I was trying to simultaneously make lunch, wrap a child's birthday present and sort out aforementioned shopping all in the space of about 10 minutes . He didn't want to touch the fruit, apparently. But didn't say that, just glared at me until I lost it, then refused to speak to me for the rest of the day.

ZittiEBuoni · 11/12/2021 21:15

Asked her how her revision was going for her test.

'It's not a TEST, it's a TIMED ESSAY.'

I stand corrected.

Thatsplentyjack · 11/12/2021 21:15

I didn't make his toastie fast enough (not lunch, just a snack). I mean what is the point of him even asking me to make it if I'm not going to actually do it when he asks Hmm. He's 13.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 11/12/2021 21:18

@WomblingKnobhead that’s brill. Grin

Forion · 11/12/2021 21:18

Mine is on an Advent fast and can't eat dairy apparently. I made pasta and he was annoyed because I was putting cheese on mine (one of the many perks of being a wicked heathen 😄).

postitnot · 11/12/2021 21:22

Offered to take her shopping for new clothes. Except we had to go at 10 as I was busy in the afternoon. Oh my goodness, that was just so unreasonable...

My 8 year old ds is the most disgusting child you could meet. I dread to think what teenage him will be like because 8 year old him can make a room absolutely filthy within 15 mins. Apparently me telling him to tidy it is child abuse Hmm.
JenniferWooley · 11/12/2021 21:37

DD (isn't technically a teen any more but only by 4 weeks) because I offered her & her friend tea when they came home hungover this afternoon, apparently they just wanted to die quietly in peace so obviously I did what any good mum would do... I put Christmas tunes on & got the hoover out Grin

TrainspottingWelsh · 11/12/2021 21:46

Dd wanted to open an expensive bottle of port bought as a Xmas gift. To try, despite not liking port, or strong alcohol in general. Suggesting she could try some from dp's open bottles or even choose something else if she wants a drink was entirely unreasonable, and it's not surprising she doesn't like port if we won't let her try a good one. Because obviously an almost 18yr old can really distinguish between the standard decent port dp drinks and the type bought to give fil at Xmas.

TSSDNCOP · 11/12/2021 21:54

I attempted to scrunch my hair with a diffuser I got with a new hairdryer.

He said I look like Albert Einstein and wouldn't even let me to the door to the Uber Eat man.

JufusMum · 11/12/2021 21:57

This week DD was home from uni for just under 24 hours for a tattoo appointment. I was working then out at a gig so I didn’t see her, but she made me dinner and Jeff it in the microwave so I popped into her room before I went to work the next day to give her a kiss and say thank you and I got “why the hell are you sitting on my bed get out!”
I mean, I can’t wait to have her home for Christmas [Xmas Hmm

BlowDryRat · 11/12/2021 22:01

@Bettalife

I put Rudolph antlers and a red nose on the car and then picked him up from his football match.
To be fair, I'd agree with your DS...
LynetteScavo · 11/12/2021 22:03

I tried to explain that the boy who rode four miles on his bike to our house in the rain just to see DD fancies her. I am ridiculous because he is ugly, therefore he can not possibly fancy her. How could I be such a fool? I am ridiculous, apparently.

He brought her a nicely wrapped Christmas present.

I actually feel a bit sorry for him.
