For anyone missing Cadburys

Now that it's been totally ruined with palm oil/candle wax I've recently discovered a great alternative! Mackies - a Scottish chocolate brand using proper ingredients.
Creamy and delicious!
I do eat 'good dark chocolate' too but sometimes I just want sweet and creamy
Anyone else have any recommendations?

I'll have to try it as gutted by what's happened to Cadbury's!

IAmHereForTheFood · 11/12/2021 16:42

I knew Mackie’s did ice cream, had no clue they did chocolate too. Did you buy in a supermarket or just via their online shop?

I do like willie’s cacao. Their luscious orange is divine.

ADialgaAteMyDog · 11/12/2021 16:44

I love rotter sport alpine milk chocolate, no palm and lovely Swiss milk! Tony's is OK too, though finding I prefer the dark milk to the standard milk.

Ritter not rotter

A580Hojas · 11/12/2021 16:46

I don't eat a lot of chocolate but Tony's Chocoloney (or whatever it's called) is very nice. Not cheap, but then you get what you pay for.

JacquelineCarlyle · 11/12/2021 16:50

It is nice but too expensive for me @A580Hojas

That's right - same company. I but it in Sainsburys or Aldi but I'm in Scotland so not sure if it's a regional thing

It's delicious!

Ahhh it must be. I’ve just logged onto Sainsbury’s & it’s not listed. I will order a selection from them online.

Doubleglouceater · 11/12/2021 17:27

One of the best things about visiting Scotland is Mackie’s chocolate!!

Sweetmayday · 11/12/2021 17:29

I still love Cadbury's chocolate, haven't tasted any difference but I'm in Ireland.

skipperjonce · 11/12/2021 17:33

Cadburys is awful now. And I was a major fan most of my life. It leaves me feeling unfulfilled and a bit meh.

SummerOfComedy · 11/12/2021 17:45

Mackies is lovely. Bought it by chance in Lidl. Didn't think it was going to be much but it is delicious.
I've tried the mint choc and the dark choc version but the milk chocolate is the best.

edification · 11/12/2021 17:48

Yup, I've always liked getting Cadbury giant buttons as a treat, but now they taste like sick.

Wombat69 · 11/12/2021 17:51

Palm oil was first used as a tractor lubricant. That fact alone makes me loathe to eat food with it in, never mind the environmental damage.

LaurieFairyCake · 11/12/2021 17:51

Just ordered 16 bars online

Cheers for this Grin

Faevern · 11/12/2021 17:51

I’ve just ordered some from Ireland on the back of another thread. Now I’m going to try Tony’s and Mackies, Lindt is a bit sickly for me. I’ve seen Tony’s but thought it was American and would be like plastic.

RedRobin100 · 11/12/2021 17:52

Tony’s Chocoloney

👌

Tony's is really nice, I like the milk caramel sea salt one
WhatDidISayAlan · 11/12/2021 17:56

I discovered Tony’s on a trip to the ‘Dam 10 years ago - they have a shop there now with loads of different flavours; Eton Mess, Popping Candy, Pina Colada, raspberry and white chocolate, you name it. I have a friend who goes every year and brings me 10 bars back - I am obsessed with it.

that's why. the recipe is different - as in better over there.

The factory in Ireland still used the original recipe, I believe.

The only Cadbury's I buy these days (in England) are Freddos because they are made there.

I still mourn proper creme eggs!

Faevern · 11/12/2021 18:12

@Haus1234 Oh I’ve just been on Tony’s website and saw that he is Dutch, and that it’s fair trade too and the reason it’s called Chocolonely. I’ve never picked a bar up and looked as it’s usually sat next to Hersheys so I’ve walked past.

wevemadeitagain · 11/12/2021 20:13

This is good to know, I like to suppport Scottish business. Does anyone know if it’s fairtrade? I love Tony Chocolonely both for taste and it’s fairtrade credentials. If Mackies is fairtrade then I’m in!
