What “popular” tv shows could you never get into?

I remember reading all the hype on tiger king so thought I would give it a go. I could not get into it. At all. I think I gave it 3 episodes before I said fuck it and switched it off

The walking dead. Now annoyingly I really enjoyed this at first. Then the story went off from zombies and started focusing more on the “bad people” and I got fed up. I think the last episode I ever watched before I decided enough was enough was when Karl got bit.

God, yes, the Office

FrenchBulldogsareFab · 11/12/2021 00:29

Friends
X Factor
Anything featuring Phillip Schofield or Holly Willoughby
Get me out of here celeb tripe

Yes, nothing to disagree with on these lists, with the exception of Father Ted which is hilarious. Saw a Christmas edition Radio Times yesterday, YAWN, thank heavens for streaming, there must be something worth looking at.

Schitt's Creek. Tried, watched three episodes. Hated it.

Suprised no one has mentioned Squid Game? Watched 2 episodes, awful! Boring, terrible dubbed voices. Utter tripe.

I enjoyed it but it wasn't as good as people made out! I also couldn't stand the dubbed version so just watched the original with sub titles which made it much better.
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/12/2021 11:32

Many of them.
Downtown Abbey in particular. Storylines so cliched and predictable. Redeemed only partly by the inimitable Maggie Smith.

midsomermurderess · 11/12/2021 11:42

Basically all of the big Saturday night ones, the talent shows, the quizzes.

Eyesofdisarray · 11/12/2021 11:47

Any reality programme, GOT, Peaky Blinders, anything with James Corden, The Walking Dead, Friends, Eastenders, Phoenix Nights, Miranda, Strictly, Bake Off, The Royle Family, Mrs Brown...
I'm a miserable so and so 😁😁

Eyesofdisarray · 11/12/2021 11:48

Oh no forgot Downton! Amazed at the popularity
The Office
OK I'll stop now
Makes you realise what a lot of carp is on tv

OhWhyNot · 11/12/2021 12:20

Game of Thrones

Friends was always very irritating
Motherland
The Simpsons

fakereview · 11/12/2021 12:31

@FindingMeno

Most of them. I have the attention span of a gnat when it comes to TV and a distinct lack of commitment to series.
Same here. I watch things like Endeavour because they are standalone, but rarely watch series. Although I did watch The Man in the High Castle.

I've never seen an episode of SATC or Friends. And only bits of Gavin & Stacey.

Mrs Browns Boys and The Royle Family are/were absolutely dire. I find most "comedies" excruciatingly embarassing.

fakereview · 11/12/2021 12:32

I recently watched an episode of Zen again though and liked it as much as I did the first time around.

DroopyClematis · 11/12/2021 12:52

It's so interesting to see how often Mrs Brown's Boys gets a mention on here.

There was a thread recently where this pile of shite got a similar amount of criticism. Yet it keeps being made and put out at prime time.
Just how? And why?

Yes to Downton Abbey too. I hated it. Didn't get the hype at all.
DustyMaiden · 11/12/2021 13:06

Hated breaking bad, kept watching as was told it will grow on you it didn’t.
Trying to dispose of a body and it drips through the ceiling. Keeping someone in the basement telling them you have to kill them.

The characters had no redeeming features didn’t care what happened to them.

Chikapu · 11/12/2021 13:06

Call the Midwife, just awful. The constant tinkly piano music over all the dialogue, the sugary niceness of the main characters (looking at you Sheila!) just grated on my nerves.

I know it was a typo, but as the wife of a keen angler I agree there is WAY too much carp on tv !

Orange is the New Black

A lot of these for me too, especially Game of thrones, how I met your mother and big bang.

Have to say though I bloody love Miranda, but then again I am extremely puerile...

TheCreamCaker · 11/12/2021 15:11

Friends
Dinnerladies (I never found Victoria Wood funny)
Miranda (I find her so very unfunny)
Gavin & Stacey (I hate James Cordon)
Peep Show
Car Share (lame script)

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 11/12/2021 15:15

I enjoyed Breaking Bad but we started watching it when the whole show had ended and that many episodes laid out in front of us was too overwhelming so we gave up!

Squid Game is much better with subtitles by the way, the dubbed voices are awful!
