58 yo woman plots to overthrow the government

shakingmytambourineatyou · 07/12/2021 20:19

Right. I am now so sick of just about everything, the plots, the lies, the policies, that I am thinking of nipping down south (if there are any trains/tubes) and overthrowing the government. What will I need? Should I take sandwiches?

I'm in, there's a train to Euston in half an hour. I'll meet you there! I'm in early years so I'll volunteer to make quality affordable childcare available for all who need it, and pay the people who provide it properly. Let's face it, I can't do a worse job than the current shower.

ChristmasBee · 08/12/2021 11:24

I see there's a cabinet role called Minister for Implementation which sounds like a load of bollocks so I could manage that perfectly. I'll just do whatever I want and not be accountable to anyone (although that means I could probably get the job now). I think I'll be in charge of cake sales, Christmas decorating and keeping up morale.

Why isn't the Women's Equality Party teaming up with Mumsnet/@shakingmytambourineatyou to make this actually happen??

ArabellaScott · 08/12/2021 11:25

Minister for Implementation? What is that, cutlery?

OhDear2200 · 08/12/2021 11:25

We could somehow close the loophole that allows people to put money in the Cayenne islands?

ChristmasBee · 08/12/2021 11:35

@ArabellaScott A quick google search tells me that the gov purchase almost 600,000 pieces of cutlery a year, so quite likely!

Cuddlywaterfall · 08/12/2021 11:39

Some fiscal policies:

We tax multinationals appropriately, also betting companies will be subject to a super tax.
We means test pensions - exMIL uses the winter fuel allowance to heat her indoor swimming pool Hmm.

Some legal stuff - we have to review family law, child maintenance etc. I'm about to be taken to the cleaners by my useless STBXH who won't put his hand in his pocket for a pair of school shoes.

dubyalass · 08/12/2021 11:42

I'll help with the environment. Qualified and experienced ecologist and happily DMs fit my enormous feet. Would need to be the fleece lined ones though, I do get chilblains.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 08/12/2021 11:43

Do we have ideas for a manifesto yet? Pass me the notes and I'll write it up. I can do the press release too. Basically anything that needs writing and presenting to the press and public, I'm your gal.

Also rather than cutting funds from other services, could we not just hike tax on the 1% ers?

Maggiesgirl · 08/12/2021 11:44

We could save money by stopping the subsidised meals in the Parlimentry dining room - after all as sensible women we will be bringing our own packed lunch.

Maggiesgirl · 08/12/2021 11:45

What about a Minister to go after tax dodging bastard companies - Amazon I'm looking at you.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 08/12/2021 11:51

I can bring Barry's Gold (we have tolerate differences in tea preferences) and am prepared to work my magic a barbecue pit.

I would like to be on the appointment committee for the DHSC, please. We would consult the reports that have already been written and select people who are prepared to defend the NHS and to implement appropriate social care.

Do I need one rucksack of underwear and socks or two? Should I rely upon family being prepared to bring me fresh supplies or is somebody negotiating a discount with a favoured supplier to the revolution?

WHAT!!!?

Hoppinggreen · 08/12/2021 11:59

Can I be Foreign Secretary? I speak 4 languages (if being able to order a drink counts) and can be a bit of a Bitch sometimes

EvilPea · 08/12/2021 11:59

@ArabellaScott

It's not ordinary people who need to be taxed more, EvilPea. It's giant multinationals that escape taxes altogether.

Also: Tombola.

Oh yes I’m fully onboard with that. If you want to profit in our country you have to pay the relevant taxes.

I just mean in general if people feel there’s value in what services they receive with regards to taxes. Not necessarily your average wage paying more.

Samedaysame · 08/12/2021 12:13

I see Angela Rayner ( PMQs, today) has has her done, is she a mumsnetter is she on our side. Having a mole on the inside would be helpful

KrispyKale · 08/12/2021 12:18

She has great hair.

UseOfWeapons · 08/12/2021 12:20

@Wiglio

May I work with *@Apocalyptichorsewoman* *@UseOfWeapons* In the NHS? I’d like to pass a law about the ratio of managers to front line workers, say 1:1000 Thanks Wiglio
That seems eminently reasonable, excellent idea! And I’d like to make WFH a no-no for managers, who are actually off sick…as they don’t accumulate any sick time that way, Strong tea, and decent biscuits for all, and a nice massage, that’s the way to run a country!
Double3xposure · 08/12/2021 12:25

@RB68

Whos up for sorting child maintenance system
Me that should defo be in our manifesto.

Remove their driving license or even jail them. I have zero sympathy for men who think everyone else should support their kids so they don’t have to.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 08/12/2021 12:34

May I suggest that some of the people with eminently sensible suggestions about improving child welfare (see thread) should be on the appropriate appointments committee?

Raise council tax on higher band properties and stick the money directly into local council social care.

thereisonlyoneofme · 08/12/2021 13:13

I may be late turning up, can someone save me some chocolate digestives

WeasilyPleased · 08/12/2021 13:15

I can get hold of a megaphone...not that I usually need one Xmas Blush

Balloondog · 08/12/2021 13:20

I'm in! This thread has made me want to laugh and cry in equal measure - its lovely to have such a merry band but I'm SO frustrated with the whole Westminster lot! I keep receiving evasive, non commital responses to my letters to my local MP and will quite happily bring those to burn for a hand warming fire or to light the BBQ while we're outside No.10!
Vive La revolution!

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 08/12/2021 13:27

This has cheered up a wet Wednesday lunchtime for me for sure!

Don't forget the Les mis soundtrack to keep you company on the journey @shakingmytambourineatyou

BackBackBack · 08/12/2021 13:32

Fair and proportionate tax system, which includes appropriate corporation tax and focuses on closing loopholes.

A ban on asset stripping by private equity firms
