Has anyone's children got a response from a celebrity?

My children want to write a letter to the Queen and a few other celebrities. Has anyone had a response? Of so what?

I’ve sent a few messages to famous people on instagram and they’ve replied.

BonnyEm · 07/12/2021 16:12

My niece wrote a letter to the Queen and had a letter back. My ds wrote to David Cameron (when he was P.M.) and also received a reply.

You normally get a letter back from the Queens staff if you write to her.

londonrach · 07/12/2021 16:16

You get a letter back from the queen staff every time same as any royal member. The queen I doubt ever read the letter but fun to get a letter

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 07/12/2021 16:34

My cousin got a response from Henry Winkler lol

CouncilHousedAndViolentBaby · 07/12/2021 16:34

I've still got my letter from the Queen's lady in waiting from 1977! I sent her a picture.

Theresa May, oddly enough - the Junior Engineer wrote to her about something he was passionate about (can't remember what) and had a personal reply. He'd forgotten to write his address on so she wrote to him at school. We were impressed that she'd gone to all that trouble to respond to an 8 year old.
Boris Johnson, on the other hand, didn't so much as send an acknowledgement. Hmm.

The president of the Royal Society of Engineering actually sent a t-shirt and a research pack to him, when he sent a design for a bridge to him. On quite pally terms with Sir Jim he is now :-)

Yes, we got a personal response from Sadio Mane (a Liverpool and Senegal footballer) - my ds had to do a worksheet about him as a person he admired for Black History Month. Sadio Mane does a lot for charity and children living in poverty in Senegal. What a lovely young man he was.

To be honest, even if you get a response you will never know if it's actually the celebrity or not.

Many celebrities have PR teams who respond to letters on their behalf and may even be allowed to sign their name etc.

horseymum · 07/12/2021 16:51

Got a response on Twitter from an author, it's quite easy for them to reply so pretty common I imagine, dd was pleased.

Thorilicious · 07/12/2021 16:53

I wrote to Lin Manuel Miranda last year, and I got a reply!

Ds got a lovely letter from Cliff Richard when he was quite small. He asked why he didn't wear armour and carry a sword if he was a knight, and CR replied with a nice note explaining how he was a peaceful knight and could do good works without them. I'm pretty certain it was from him, it was handwritten and was consistent with his signature.
It was quite sweet.

cereallover · 07/12/2021 17:59

I got a letter from "the Queen " when I was little. Jonathan Knight from new kids on the block replied to a tweet I sent him.

LakieLady · 07/12/2021 18:07

Someone at my secondary school (1960's) was very chuffed when she got a letter and a signed photo from Jimmy Savile.

Bet she's not so pleased with herself now.

Mumtoabeast · 07/12/2021 18:22

Dd got a letter back from David Attenborough, she had written asking him a few questions to which he replied back to her

ouchmyfeet · 07/12/2021 18:41

My kids have written to quite a few footballers who have responded with signed photos

Usuallyhappycamper · 07/12/2021 18:45

As a child I wrote to both Michael Jackson and Jimmy Saville to try and get MJ to come to my birthday party. Given the press about both of them since I am quite glad I never received a reply from either!

Jacaranda75 · 07/12/2021 18:48

@Usuallyhappycamper that would have been the children’s birthday party from Hell!

feellikeanalien · 07/12/2021 18:49

My granny wrote to Winston Churchill wishing him a happy birthday. I still have the reply thanking her for her kind wishes which certainly looked as if he had signed it.

Jacaranda75 · 07/12/2021 18:49

My friend wrote to the Queen a few weeks ago and posted the letter he received on Facebook. It was signed by her lady in waiting.

fourandnomore · 07/12/2021 18:52

Matthew Baynton wrote back to my two girls who were 4 and 6 at the time with a personalised signed photo thanking them for their lovely letters. I love him!! The Queen’s lady in waiting wrote back to my daughter when she was about 8 too, a few years ago.

elliejjtiny · 07/12/2021 18:53

My dc wrote to a few different famous people one wet October half term. Only one person didn't reply, I was really impressed.

SleepWhenAmDead · 07/12/2021 18:55

Steve Backshall sent a lovely postcard with a personalised message.
