I don't about the world but yesterday I was sorting the freezer and my hands were getting quite cold.
I moaned to DS1 about it so he suggested I should put on gloves.
😱
genius!🤣

My cat is currently cuddled up with me in bed purring away.

It’s Friday!! Sorry to those who work weekends.

BiscuitLover3679 · 03/12/2021 17:11

Dd has got two good job offers and is finally moving back out after 'temporarily' moving back to us two years ago. I'm on the sofa with tea and magazines. We're all vaccinated, boosted and flu jabbed

Longdistance · 03/12/2021 17:12

Wine 🍷 o’clock. Cheers!

BiscuitLover3679 · 03/12/2021 17:13

These are lovely but they're all personal! What about the world in general?

I'll tell you one or two. On the front of my local paper there has been an appeal for toys for poor children who might otherwise not get much. If it's not being organised by the Rotary Club it's something like it. I know they have received things from members of the general public.
I put one item into the food bank tub in the supermarket, and there were other things there which people have already put in. Yes, I know you'll wonder why I put only one in, and I'll get into trouble for not putting 1001 in.
Most children in this country are looked after well, and loved. Hold that thought.
A dishy actor has a new film out next year.
I think there's a new film of West Side Story - Steven Spielberg involved, I think.

The world, in general, is made up of the personal. So every bit of good adds up.

They made a vaccine for covid in less than a year and though the virus mutates they can continue to improve the vaccine.
Meanwhile, thanks to the vast amount of money thrown at it there has been progress that will help understand and treat other diseases.
They also finally managed to make a vaccine for malaria which will save so many lives, especially children.

triplechoc · 03/12/2021 17:20

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba My Mum’s had a pair of freezer gloves for as long as I can remember, they live in the veg rack.

A local park near me which was in a really rough area and was dangerous has been refurbished and restored as a wetland. It's amazing and so much wildlife has returned, locals using the park without fear, it's brilliant.

Namechangeforthis88 · 03/12/2021 17:26

This should keep you going for a while if you've never been on it before:

Honestly, it might not feel like it but we are lucky to be alive right now. Never has the whole world pulled together like it has for covid. Not perfect, no, but unprecedented global cooperation. We have modern medicine, less war, millions more people have access to clean water and sanitation than in the past. Science does amazing things. People do amazing things.

That reminds me: the River Thames was declared biologically dead in 1957 but now wildlife has returned including eels, seals, seahorses and sharks (but not the scary kind).

Myself and both dd's had covid. I only told one of my friends, the word got round and everyday there was a little something left on our doorstep and I've since made friends with a lot of my neighbours because of their generosity Smile there are good people in the world

MissDollyMix · 03/12/2021 17:48

The U.K. has a higher level of woodland/forestry now than at any time since (about! I can’t quite remember!) the 12th century!

junebirthdaygirl · 03/12/2021 17:49

Here in lreland we had the Late Late Toy Show and people donated 6.6 million for children's charities while it was on. This was boosted by Revolut donating 1 million at the end.
Good news l think

Across the world, thousands, probably millions are doing little things to make Christmas for people they have never met. Dressing up as Santa or local equivalent. Toy drives. Food bank donations. Putting lights up. All these little acts add up to something huge.

This ^^

The news in the last few weeks has been awful. But every tiny action adds up. We can’t help everyone, but for those we can help, it means everything.

There is real hope for a cure for HIV by the end of the decade. GSK have developed a treatment which they aim to start human clinical trials with next year. www.pharmatimes.com/news/gsk_aim_for_hiv_cure_by_2030_1384679
