Blimey I appear to own a bottle of wine that costs £75

This one

19yo DS got it for my birthday. TBH I though it was a bit of a fun gimmick, but the bottle is actually sandy and I have a sand phobia (yes really!) so I don't know what DS was thinking.

I thought I'd pass it on as my Secret Santa gift (a woman famous for her love of red wine) so I Googled it to make sure it met the agreed £20. Surely DS didn't pay £75?! It's the same box with the "free" wine tasting.

Is it actually worth £75? Will the wine be exceptionally good?

Don't waste it on a Secret Santa gift !!!!

Jammallama · 03/12/2021 16:19

Can’t someone just decant it for you?

SequinnedShawl · 03/12/2021 16:23

Don't waste it on secret Santa!!

Chasingsquirrels · 03/12/2021 16:23

I have one that appears to be worth £500, am in the process of selling it and should get £325.

What are you going to do with yours?

Probably, but I had no idea it would be worth doing. I thought the under the sea thing was just a gimmick. Is the wine actually good?

You can't give that away as a £20 Secret Santa!

PinglePongle · 03/12/2021 16:24

I think its the design on the bottle that makes it expensive rather than the wine itself. Why are you re-gifting it if it's from your son?

SheWoreYellow · 03/12/2021 16:24

It looks to be!

Because it's covered in sand and I can't touch it Grin

I’d just pass it on if you don’t like it. The £75 is just an Amazon thing (some things are way overpriced on there!), and it’s part of a package. I would say the wine itself would probably work out to be about £20. Just think of it as saving £20 instead as you don’t have to buy a present. You can then get a decent bottle of wine without the gimmicks for yourself!

Soubriquet · 03/12/2021 16:39

You can’t really give that as a secret Santa.

You’ll either get looks because they will assume you’ve majorly overspent and therefore favouritising someone, or you’ll get looks because you’ve regifted it

Sell it on eBay?

BarbaraofSeville · 03/12/2021 16:41

I've heard about this. I scuba dive and someone was talking about diving to go see the undersea wine.

Can you ask DS to open and pour the wine for you? Does he know about your sand phobia? What was he thinking? Did he really pay so much?

Yololollipop · 03/12/2021 16:43

Anakin?

Yololollipop · 03/12/2021 16:45

Its confirmed, @Gearedtoyou is actually Anakin Skywalker.

SwanShaped · 03/12/2021 16:45

Can’t someone just wash the sand off?

Yummypumpkin · 03/12/2021 16:46

Well I feel very mean saying this but the cost I think is reflecting the packaging and the 'undersea treasuring' !

It doesn't mention grape varieties, terroir or winemaker....and so whilst I am.sure it will be a wonderful experience and nicer than plonk, I would not get your hopes up too high. But do tell us!

Yololollipop · 03/12/2021 16:46

@SwanShaped

Can’t someone just wash the sand off?
Unlikely, it's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
CovidPassQuestion · 03/12/2021 16:46

I love that it lists the ingredients as "grapes" Grin

HollysBush · 03/12/2021 16:48

What a lovely present from your DS. I would share it with him and tell him he doesn’t have to spend so much next time!

TheVolturi · 03/12/2021 16:50

I wouldn't use amazon as a way to work out how much something cost. Their prices are crazy at times, and rise and fall like the sun!

CrumbsThatsQuick · 03/12/2021 16:53

why did your son give you a present with sand on it if you have a sand phobia? is he trying to tell you something Smile
