Social media posts that make you cringe

Saw one the other day-

‘Guys, where can I donate food to? I really want to help’ To me it just smacks of virtue signalling and wanting praise. My view is that if they’ve got FB then presumably they could Google this and have they never seen the food bank bins at the door of every supermarket?

Phew rant over!

@gettingolderandgrumpy

Also anyone that’s says happy birthday to mum/gran and they aren’t on Facebook, why ?
My stepdaughter does that. Drives me insane
facepalmer · 03/12/2021 15:10

I have a Facebook friend who posts a play script of conversations she has with her husband. Usually something that was mildly funny between the two of them but is of absolutely no interest to anyone else whatsoever, yet she thinks it's so hilarious she had to share it.

Also can't stand hospital check ins. I was in the reception of minor injury unit once and a woman walked in with a suspected sprained wrist. She spent half an hour taking selfies with a sad face and updating various social media platforms, then spent god knows how long phoning everyone she knew to 'make them aware' what happened.

I once saw a (overall cringe) couple have an entire exchange over Facebook. Literally messages to each other. It went something like this:

Bland Boring: is meeting Blah Boring for lunch today, so excited!

Blah: yes great looking forward, what time do you arrive?

Bland: getting the train soon that gets in at xx

Blah: jolly good, blah blah boring blah

And so on.

@Levithian

"Today I was feeling down, and my eighteen month old came up to me, hugged me and said, "Mummy, remember than even when your soul is shrouded in the mists of unhappiness, a fresh breeze will come and you will once again see the sun." So blessed to have my wise little man."

On our local FB group we have loads of scammers and it’s so funny. On the ones that let you comment, everyone goes ‘hi scammer’ and posts memes about scams. On the ones where they’ve turned off comments, it’s even funnier. It’s usually someone asking about bingo or solar panels and ‘someone else’ responds with the answer. Everyone knows it’s the original poster 😂

Urgh, I have a man on my FB feed that does this with his 3 year old daughter. He very much gives “Disney dad” vibes. If I didn’t know he lived with his wife I’d think he was an EOW dad showing off his weekend hobby.

DickMabutt73962 · 03/12/2021 15:21

@PunchedTit4ASoul

Let the middle button complete this sentence posts. I saw one that said "I fell over in the middle of a cemetery because...I told Donald Trump to go suck a limp ass eggplant!" The posts after were an even split of "tee hee hee omg so funny" or "yeah sure that was so obviously made up". Grin
What's worse is when someone does one that goes on way too long and it makes no sense? And you still posted it?

Like 'I fell over in the middle of the cemetery because of my family lol I don't think it's going around the house lol I just don't know how much it was'

(I used the middle button to complete that 😂)

Checking in at the hospital Hun My 🌎 Be kind
Absolutely nailed it Grin
Jemstar12 · 03/12/2021 15:29

"Just had a call to say Ptolemy's broken his arm during his Gold DofE expedition, not sure how he's going to do his black belt karate and grade 8 lute exams this weekend now!"

"Girls who like wine a lot:
[insert list of girls names including the poster's name and some of her friends that's obviously been generated by a bot scanning her friends list]"
"OMG hun I knew you'd be in that list!"

Throughout lockdown:
Under picture of kitchen table laid out with activity sheets and children sitting around it looking pissed off - "Day 43 of lockdown, kids are loving learning about algebra with mummy this morning! This afternoon we'll be doing advanced astrophysics using a leftover bottle of washing up liquid and a bicycle pump! #proudmummy"

One of SM friends has started posting day 1, day 2 of elf on the shelf… I’m just like Blush for her. She gets about 3 ‘likes’ and even then it’s only from grandparents.

I just cringe and think you’re going to bore the arse off everyone.

YouokHun · 03/12/2021 15:41

@BigYellowHat

I never give likes to posts I don’t approve of 😂 These include ‘mystery posts’ where the author then says ‘PM me hun’ 🙄 Also loathe things where people are gushy to their DH/partner…just tell them!!
“pm me Hun” - there’s no mystery about that; they want to sell their wellness shite/crap makeup/aloe Vera drink/slimming supplements/shit yourself thin coffee/copy perfume that smells of arse, or better still recruit you to do the same.
YouokHun · 03/12/2021 15:46

@MrsIPFreely

People who write "Wishing my beautiful child a happy 5th birthday".

Your child isn't on social media just tell them.

Speaking directly to your child is valuable SM time wasted!
Chr1stmasCarole · 03/12/2021 15:46

They've tailed off a bit now but the "look how cute this baby with Down's syndrome is, give him a like if you support special needs" posts used to drive me insane..... ridiculously patronising.

Oh yes I have a daily elf on the shelf diary friend too.....it isn't a great look.

Another one was a friend who posted pictures of her children at Halloween sitting in front of an enormous pile of sweets each, entitled
"A great little haul this year"
I was embarrassed for her.

@MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry

Pretty much all of them make me cringe these days *@BigYellowHat* Grin

The balloon arches for a 2 year old starting nursery school.

The “scam alert” that even the afore mentioned 2 year old could have spotted.

The whole house decorated for save the whales day along with every other non event they can think of.

The “aww here’s me with my granny lying in hospital and doesn’t even understand that this image will be shown to thousands on the internet.”

The “this year for my birthday I’m raising money for X charity- please donate”

The Xmas tat for sale- you rolled a wine bottle in glitter- it’s not worth £2.50 let alone £25.

And let’s not forget the “be kind” brain rot.

I'm sorry I've done the charity one because the charity was related to my DS's illness and I can't afford to give much myself. Blush
dementedma · 03/12/2021 15:52

Making memories.

Witchinthedales · 03/12/2021 15:57

Probably the same one as you OP, oh, and people who post "mental health matters" when they can't even check up on those in their own family who actually suffer MH problems in real life.

WannabeMathematician · 03/12/2021 15:59

The phrase "excited to be surrendering myself to motherhood". I want to you yell at the poster that she is allowed to have hopes and dreams for herself and be a mother! Also people don't surender to stuff they love, they surrender to enemy combatants. Though maybe that's a fair way to describe a new born!

nordica · 03/12/2021 16:01

I have a Facebook friend who tags herself when she's visiting the local hospital and then everyone will comment to ask OMG are you ok hun??

A few hours later she will comment and say "yes just having some tests hun, it's been awful".

cptartapp · 03/12/2021 16:01

Any where mothers pose with their 'mini me' daughters and the sons never get a mention.

Frauhubert · 03/12/2021 16:03

-‘My whole heart’ and the sad face 🥺 as an ‘aaaw’ face?
-anybody posting anything about their birthdays. Cringe af. Birthday fun. Birthday bliss. Birthday gifts
-people tagging brands, when they have 50 followers. ‘Thank you so much @thebodyshop for my wonderful bath set.
-sunday funday

BleuJay · 03/12/2021 16:08

There used to be a horrible dog abuse one that fools would post. It had a graphic photo of a dog suffering at the hands of young men and the caption was along foe help in recognising the young men/boys.

Quite clearly it was not a photo taken in the U.K. but they would still post it.

A quick reverse image search showed it was taken in a foreign country around ten years ago.

Not long ago there was a dead horse in a field and people were reposting it and making horrible comments about the owner. The woman’s horse had died and she had gone to phone vet and get a cover to lay over the horse when the photo was taken.

Katieandthekids · 03/12/2021 16:10

random stock quote about being wronged but being strong despite all that have wronged them

'You ok babe'
'PM'd you hun'

Oh the ones that really irritate me are the ones that say “mental health is nothing to be ashamed of” Hmm no shit Sherlock, neither is physical health. Do you mean poor mental health?
lastchristmasigaveyoumyheart · 03/12/2021 16:28

'I love my girls the world!'

What does that even mean?? Pisses me off!!

Same person is always posting about a good deed they've done to help a stranger. And I'm not saying they haven't done it... but why post about it? I'm guessing they love the 'oh, you're such a wonderful person' comment.
