Social media posts that make you cringe

Saw one the other day-

‘Guys, where can I donate food to? I really want to help’ To me it just smacks of virtue signalling and wanting praise. My view is that if they’ve got FB then presumably they could Google this and have they never seen the food bank bins at the door of every supermarket?

Phew rant over!

The 'be kind' or 'let's fix our crowns ladies' type posts piss me off. Almost exclusively penned by young women who were well known school bullies (recent or historic) of this parish

Laney39 · 03/12/2021 13:07

@bearSoFair that is horrendous and they need deleting ASAP.
I hate most social media posts, particularly hate:
Making memories
Cheeky drinks with this one
Happy heavenly birthday
Proud mum moment...*Alfie smashed it.
Anyone saying smashed it.

GlamorousHeifer · 03/12/2021 13:08

@BleuJay the 'name' ones are the worst! Always say something like Susan is loyal and amazing in every way but cross her and you'll release her inner tiger....or some such bull shitHmm

HappyMeal564 · 03/12/2021 13:12

checks in at hospital
Feel so ill just want to go home

Meowenstein · 03/12/2021 13:13

Finding out on Facebook by a younger relative that my grandfather had died about 10 minutes earlier. In a ’I’ll miss you grandpa!’ purely for attention.

MollysDolly · 03/12/2021 13:13

My kids r my world

They're supposed to be.

And the bullshit perfect family stuff when you know either or both are cheats.

Mmmm housework done, tea done, kids in bed, glass of Bailey's for me #smugmum

If feeding your children and hoovering is such an occasion that you want to boast about it, I'm not sure #smug is the right word

BobLemon · 03/12/2021 13:18

My own posts from 10 years ago 🤢

gettingolderandgrumpy · 03/12/2021 13:19

A friend of mine felt the need to post on SM she had a negative pcr test . I mean whats the need ? I think truthfully she was disappointed that she hadn’t caught covid she’s still convinced she’s had it .

HollyChristmas · 03/12/2021 13:20

Have a friend who's child ended up spending a night in hospital due to a temperature during a chest infection not coming down . Every year she posts a photo of him taken whilst he was in hospital with the caption ' The night I nearly lost my little man ' He was about 12-18 months old , he's now 9 .

gettingolderandgrumpy · 03/12/2021 13:20

Also anyone that’s says happy birthday to mum/gran and they aren’t on Facebook, why ?

lastqueenofscotland · 03/12/2021 13:30

The be kind posts. Always posted by people who are absolutely peices of work.

MrsLarry · 03/12/2021 13:31

The ones referring to how "some people" are selfish, etc. Clearly aimed at a specific person. Come on, grow a pair and just tell them directly 😂

Jumanji89 · 03/12/2021 13:35

Posts declaring how much they love partners/children or how their kids parents evening was perfect. Just tell them.

Posts reciting a full conversation with their child and how hilarious it is.

Also videos of people doing a good deed. I know plenty of people who do things which never go on social media.

@Levithian

"Today I was feeling down, and my eighteen month old came up to me, hugged me and said, "Mummy, remember than even when your soul is shrouded in the mists of unhappiness, a fresh breeze will come and you will once again see the sun." So blessed to have my wise little man."
🤣🤣 This made me laugh out loud
MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 03/12/2021 13:43

Pretty much all of them make me cringe these days @BigYellowHat Grin

The balloon arches for a 2 year old starting nursery school.

The “scam alert” that even the afore mentioned 2 year old could have spotted.

The whole house decorated for save the whales day along with every other non event they can think of.

The “aww here’s me with my granny lying in hospital and doesn’t even understand that this image will be shown to thousands on the internet.”

The “this year for my birthday I’m raising money for X charity- please donate”

The Xmas tat for sale- you rolled a wine bottle in glitter- it’s not worth £2.50 let alone £25.

And let’s not forget the “be kind” brain rot.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 03/12/2021 13:43

I have a cousins wife on Facebook. Don't know why as she's a complete muppet and I dislike her but have just accepted pretty much everyone from the family's friend request. She humble bragged the other day about how exhausted she was setting out the elf on the shelf and had forgotten something so had to run up and down stairs, ending up with 'never buying a 3 storey house again'. Didn't see anyone like that comment!!

FluffyBooBoo · 03/12/2021 13:45

I once went to the hospital for an appointment, and while we were in the reception area someone walked in in full wedding dress etc. and it was the reception area not a&e so was a bit baffling

What's baffling about that? Don't people usually go to the reception after the wedding?

(Sorry... I'll get my coat)

Tessellation · 03/12/2021 13:47

@Levithian that is fantastic!!!

Yes social media does seem to be a lot of people speaking and not many people listening.

Most of my friends are sensible about their posts but there are one or two who insist on reposting random inspirational shit every other day that is usually, in fact, a subtle dig at someone who has caused them some sort of perceived injustice that day.

Also the cliffhanger statements such as:

"So annoyed."
"Keeping my fingers crossed."
"Can't do this anymore. I'm making a change."
"Something amazing is happening"

And then they never come back and explain.

I'm annoyed with the people who fall for it and respond "What hun? What's happened?" but most of all I'm annoyed with myself for also wanting to know!!!

MLMshouldbeillegal · 03/12/2021 13:48

These don't seem to be around as much recently but it's the ones who post

I'm going skydiving in the Atlas Mountains!

And people post quizzical emojis or question why Brenda who never goes further than Skegness has got all adventurous in her old age. Then you get a message "ha ha fooled you, now post to raise awareness of "

You're not raising awareness of anything, Brenda. You're being a prize twat.

crackofdoom · 03/12/2021 13:49

“I want all my friends to know if they’re ever feeling down my door is always open, the fire is always on, there’s a pot of coffee on the stove…” etc etc. Am frequently tempted to knock on their door and attempt to install myself in their living room for the afternoon, just to see the look of horror on their faces 😆

Also, inspirational quotes, usually illustrated unfathomably by illustrations of beautiful women in forests cuddling foxes or something.

I would say anti vaccine nonsense, but I have vigorously purged all the perpetrators of this from my friends list.

ByLws · 03/12/2021 13:50

"Pleased / proud to announce..." followed by update about their work promotion. FFS you're not a celebrity!!

RaininSummer · 03/12/2021 14:00

'do any women go out without make up. I'll wait.' WTF

No words in English end in 'a' apart from 'banana'. I'll wait.

Silly arseholes!

crackofdoom · 03/12/2021 14:01

Oh, and how could I have forgotten

“Don’t let anyone tell you when to stop cosleeping you brave wild mumma, your precious lil ones are only tiny for such a short time, and only their mumma can meet their needs…”

I suppose it’s my fault for sending my kids to a Steiner kindergarten, but my news feed is FULL of this passive aggressive misogynistic hippy surrendered wife bollocks, and my friendship groups used to be full of hollow eyed mothers whose 5 and 6 year olds were still sharing their beds and waking them up at the crack of dawn, and “fully expressing” themselves with all kinds of appalling behaviour, while their beardy partners all appeared to be living their best lives and ducking out of the grind of parenting 🙄

Martz · 03/12/2021 14:02

I have an old colleague on my SM and a while back they posted a picture of the aftermath of DC’s first “success” at using the potty. It was captioned with something to the effect of “little man’s first big boy shit. So proud of you”…. Peculiar to say the least.
