Finally. We can say it.

I've just utterly broken down for Arthur.

This has broken my heart. My DS turns 6 in a few weeks and it breaks me to think of him so utterly unloved, confused and hurt. The whole system is so broken and the feeling of helplessness is awful.
I wish there was more we can do to help any other children trapped in these abhorrent lives Sad. Arthur, I hope you can rest peacefully now Flowers

Pebbledashery · 02/12/2021 20:17

Someone's either going to jump her or she's going to commit suicide.

icelolly12 · 02/12/2021 20:18

Rosemary West and Myra Hindley seemed to do just fine in prison. I'm sure this manipulative witch will flutter her eyelashes and manipulate people in feeling sorry for her Angry

Strangeways19 · 02/12/2021 20:18

@Honkytonkyhonky - have you tried to directly report to the NSPCC? they will if they think it should be, refer directly to social services themselves.
Yours is a familiar story, you certainly aren't alone in your frustration with the social services for doing nothing when children are potentially at risk, its a disgrace. And when things go wrong its normally a case of 'we will learn from this'. No one wants them to learn, they just need to act and do their jobs, we know they are stretched, but like I have said above, its usually a matter of luck that there aren't more child deaths.

The social services dynamic of wait until the risk is so bad we can't ignore it - is bound to lead to serious mistakes & child harm/death.

FestiveMelts · 02/12/2021 20:20

That poor, poor boy, so badly let down at every turn. I can't comprehend his suffering. That evil bitch making him stand for hours on end, ignored, it's a harrowing thought. How COULD they?

The scum won't have remorse because nobody even half normal could treat a child with such evil in the first place. I doubt there's a hell hot enough but I hope they find out some day.

bubblesbubbles11 · 02/12/2021 20:20

does anyone know how the CCTV camera came to be in the living room?

Mufasa1118 · 02/12/2021 20:21

There needs to be another service to tackle child abuse, other than social services . The current system is not working at all. And I have to honestly say, I think the vast majority of adults don't care about children's welfare and rights on a large scale. Yes they might care about their own child. But children as a whole, no one really thinks about their rights or wants. Children are seen as second class citizens.

I remember sitting down with one woman and saying to her that children are equal to adults, and that children should always be asked what they want to do. She said to me "but children need rules".

I have seen SO many adults who think of their wants and needs first, and their children's needs second.

We talk about teaching men to respect women. I think we need to start giving classes to adults on how to respect children. To tell adults that just because children are physically weaker, it does not mean that they are worth less than adults. We need to tackle adult abuse of children on a large scale.

I remember once saying to another woman that children are equal to adults, that they are worth the same and she just could not comprehend it. To her, children were worth less than adults.

We honestly need to start getting adults to respect children more.

the80sweregreat · 02/12/2021 20:21

He was begging those bastards for food.
I hope the prison authorities forget to feed them for a few days.

Doboopedoo · 02/12/2021 20:22

The Daily Fail article with the stills from the police bodycam - why is the tattoos on her arm blurred out?

RIP Arthur Flowers

AnnieSnap · 02/12/2021 20:22

His biological mother was convicted of manslaughter, not murder. She stabbed her boyfriend (after her relationship with poor Author’s father broke up). Maybe she was defending herself. I don’t know the circumstances. Although this horror took place in Lockdown, given the repeated cases like this, it looks like Social Services would have failed anyway. I don’t know if it’s changed in recent years, but Social Workers used to be told that their main focus was to support families with a heavy emphasis on befriending parents. When parents are befriended and they endear themselves to the Social Worker, the worker is inevitably more likely to accept what they say, than would be the case if their training placed the emphasis on the welfare of the child with a sceptical approach to the accounts of parents. Many Social Workers will say that they prioritise child protection, but their befriending of parents inevitably influences their views. Combine this with Social Workers in Child Protection having unrealistically high case loads due to problems in recruitment and retention and you have a recipe for tragedies like this case. Added to that, the most perceptive, on the ball Social Workers either end up on long term sick leave due to the stress of knowing that they are not doing a safe, effective job (often having highlighted concerns about a child to managers and asking to spend more time on a case, only to be told no), or end up leaving the Service. Often the second option directly follows the first. I used to work in Child Protection as an expert witness and saw and heard things about the management of cases that made me angry and frustrated.

@MrsLargeEmbodied

i just wish he had run away

Me too.

CurryandSnuggle · 02/12/2021 20:24

I couldn’t read the articles as even the titles made me feel so sad. Just reading “no one loves me” and “no ones going to feed me” made me break down in tears. My heart aches for him. Poor soul, rest in peace. Xxxx

All of this. So many people don’t view children as actual people.

It wasn’t CCTV. The couple filmed his suffering on their mobile phones. They also recorded him begging them for food.

I heard that Arthur's life with his mother was not a happy one either.

Probably has names or faces of her children in them.

They had CCTV in the living room too.

The witch installed it to keep an eye on Arthur. I think she enjoyed watching the footage of him suffering. I bet they both did.
AndreaC67 · 02/12/2021 20:26

@Naughtynovembertree

They found one bruise, the pictures i ve seen show this poor lad without a shirt, so its not as if they took a cursory glance and went away, Arthur may well have also been "schooled" to tell them it was as a result of an accident.

The Police also went to visit and had no concerns either, they appear to be blaming the lockdown.

More funding would have allowed more visits, as there would be more Social Workers, SW is an extremely unattractive profession, we all jump to blame them when things go wrong but vote in the Governments that cut childrens services.

We appear to have a problem in this country with child abuse, from these sorts of murders to sexual grooming.

The first child murder i remember was of Jasmine Beckford, we appear to have learnt nothing since.
All the revenge in the world will not prevent another Arthur, we need to change how we prioritise familes and young people, these so called parents didn't appear from nowhere.

Bagelsandbrie · 02/12/2021 20:27

@AnnieSnap the footage of him waking up was cctv. They had cctv in their living room - the hairdresser suggested it to her because Tustin was worried she could be in trouble with social services if Arthur said she’d hit him. The hairdresser said she’d put cctv in her own home for similar reasons and suggested Tustin do the same.

She also recorded audio and video clips on her mobile. Over 200 clips apparently.

TheresAStarmanWaitingInTheSky · 02/12/2021 20:28

That poor boy, I couldn't read anymore about it. So awful. Has really upset me, such evil people.

Franklin12 · 02/12/2021 20:28

Annie. You are spot on. The social workers on behalf of the so called parent are often overly invested in keeping the child with them regardless of the red flags waving.

JessicaPipsqueak · 02/12/2021 20:28

These people are just scum. I don't actually have words for them tbh. And I'm not moved by his mother's comments.. she's in prison for murder isn't she? Maybe if she hasn't killed someone she might have been able to look after her son. Doubtful though

This little boy was failed from the moment he was born and I just despair at the senselessness of it all. All these children. All these monsters.

I've always believed in a civilised society but I'm at a point now where if I was asked to vote if I wanted child killers hanged, I'd be all for it

bubblesbubbles11 · 02/12/2021 20:28

AnnieSnap
There is a news article on either Birmingham live or Coventry news website where a detective expressly says that the case was unusual because "there was a cctv camera in the living room" so they looked at footage which showed that Arthur was not in the living room much when the others were but that they could hear him (I assume in the hall) and that that was part of evidence proving neglect. I was just wondering who put the cctv camera in the living room.

Also that footage of him picking up his duvet etc - i got the impression that was cctv not someone filming it on their phone

FestiveMelts · 02/12/2021 20:29

Wtf. Indoor CCTV on the off-chance your kid makes up lies that you beat them? I'd take a closer look at the hairdresser too...
