What vitamins and mineral supplements do you take, and why?

I'm trying to find something good to help prevent hair loss and hopefully thicken up my hair.

I take a daily Spatone sachet as my iron levels are usually at the lower end of normal. Likewise Vitamin D supplement (spray).

Magnolia Rhodiola for anxiety.

I've bought some very expensive perimenopause tablets but when they've arrived and I've paid attention to what is actually in them, they're effectively a bog standard multi-vitamin.

Cod liver oil, just because.

And Magnesium Citrate which I think has helped with improved sleep.

Maybe it's the placebo effect but after 3 months of all of these I do think I feel generally better, less tired, less brain foggy.

What do you take, and why?

Magnesium
Vitamin D
and a fish oil one marketed for high blood pressure

And a berocca each morning in a pint of water which encourages me to start the day with enough water rather than coffee

HerRoyalHappiness · 01/12/2021 20:32

I take vitamin D and a multivitamin. But I also take a shed load of other meds so I basically rattle when I walk as it is! I don't want to be adding in too much more!

MoveHouse · 01/12/2021 20:35

Magnesium
Peppermint oil (recommended for IBS)
Wellwoman 50+ Multi vit

mizu · 01/12/2021 20:36

I take a massive magnesium and vitamin B tablet, vitamin D and for the last few months I've been trying collagen capsules.

Used to take lots of iron but had a full hysterectomy 6 years ago so no need for that anymore Grin

I take the magnesium as it has a high dose of vitamin b 6 and 12 and the Magnus an added bonus.

YuleHaveAWonderfulChristmas · 01/12/2021 20:36

Ursoluc acid
Vit D3
Magnesium
Iron
Zinc
Vit C

For restless leg, MS and just because I'm low on some.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 01/12/2021 20:41

Vit D, Magnesium, something for joints and Turmeric.

Also, something called Blutreinigungstee, which is a herb infusion, because my mother and my grandmother took it.

DietCokeChipsAndMayo · 01/12/2021 20:45

I take a combined zinc, magnesium & b6 - for hormonal balance and to help with horrific periods

Iron from the doctor for the consequences of said horrific periods

And a fizzy vitamin c thing in water every morning

I probably should take vitamin d aswell 🤔

OddBoots · 01/12/2021 20:50

A women's multi vit, mainly for the iron and high strength tumeric with black pepper and ginger as I am starting to get arthritis in my knee and I read it could help (and it seems to be as the pain is much less).

Quickchangeartiste · 01/12/2021 20:54

Over 50s woman’s multi vit; cod liver oil with vit D ; turmeric and black pepper.
Had compromised immune system , neuropathy and general malaise after cancer treatment. The above made a big difference.

LemonViolet · 01/12/2021 20:59

Iron and high dose vit D as deficient in both on blood tests (self-inject B12 as well same).
5HTP and mucuna dopa for mental health issues
An “immune boost” multivitamin….because winter, covid etc. It has magnesium in it too or id probably take that separately for fatigue & pain issues. I take magnesium salt baths with that in mind as well.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 01/12/2021 21:03

Fish oil
Co enzyme Q10
NMN powder
Collagen powder
Spirulina
Vitamin D + K2

Magnesium glycinate powder
Oregano oil
Ashwagandha, astragalus, schisandra and other adaptogens
Iron bisglycinate around my period

No health issues, all preventative!

Titsywoo · 01/12/2021 21:05

None - I try to get everything from my diet and I'm not convinced vitamins are absorbed properly in pill form.

Happyface120 · 01/12/2021 21:06

Oh bloody hell, I don't take anything- is this another thing I need to be thinking about Confused
I always assumed that a healthy diet would pretty much have me covered...

canadagoose1 · 01/12/2021 21:11

what does magnesium do?

Hermione101 · 01/12/2021 21:12

@TooWicked I’ve been taking collagen powder for years and find my hair and nails grow fast, hair is definitely thicker. I also find eating more protein (small amounts with every meal) helped with this too.

weegiemum · 01/12/2021 21:13

I'm on prescribed vitD and B12.

I'm already taking menopace multi vitD but obviously not enough of those in it.

Inmypjsagain · 01/12/2021 21:15

Vit D3, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, collagen and I’m taking biotin for hair but I don’t think it’s working.

I’m 4 months post partum and my hair is falling out, I guess it’s hormones but I’d love to find something to help it!

TheCanyon · 01/12/2021 21:20

Vitabionics
Adcal
Iron
Folic acid
Potassium
B complex

Despite a pretty good diet, my bodies been pretty fucked the last year so hoping to feel well again soon...

frogswimming · 01/12/2021 21:26

None. Because I don't think I need to. I'm pale so not even vitamin d. I don't think they do much tbh.

frogswimming · 01/12/2021 21:26

Oh I do use some stuff on my eyelashes that makes them grow though.

MotherWol · 01/12/2021 21:31

I’m still finishing up the last of my prenatal vitamins, and I take a fish oil supplement as I don’t tend to eat much oily fish. Just started taking a plant sterol supplement as my cholesterol test results came back scarily high.
