What vitamins and mineral supplements do you take, and why?

I'm trying to find something good to help prevent hair loss and hopefully thicken up my hair.

I take a daily Spatone sachet as my iron levels are usually at the lower end of normal. Likewise Vitamin D supplement (spray).

Magnolia Rhodiola for anxiety.

I've bought some very expensive perimenopause tablets but when they've arrived and I've paid attention to what is actually in them, they're effectively a bog standard multi-vitamin.

Cod liver oil, just because.

And Magnesium Citrate which I think has helped with improved sleep.

Maybe it's the placebo effect but after 3 months of all of these I do think I feel generally better, less tired, less brain foggy.

What do you take, and why?

And starflower oil with b6. Dr suggested EPO, starflower has more whatever it has in.

Thats it

Daily, vitamin D because the NHS advice is that between October to March sunlight isn't sufficient and evening primrose oil for skin issues. It might be placebo effect but I've been taking it for 20 yrs and I notice a difference when I drop.

Occasionally, Spatone for iron and magnesium. They seem to improve overall energy but I'm not so convinced that I want to take them every day.

Vitamin d and separate vitamin k2 - i found out that I was deficient in vit d while living in Australia. Back here now. So I figured I'm going need top ups when there is no sunshine at all for months. K2 to stop vitamin d causing build up in the wrong places (or something similar).

Vitamin c and zinc because it is in cupboard and I thought it could be good for my skin and immune system (although less stress at work would probably be more effective).

Milk thistle to help liver during perimenopause. Self diagnosed through the internet because my tolerance for hangovers has disappeared.

B2

@mizu
@Hermione101

Have you found the collagen helps? I’m thinking of taking it but I don’t want to start rattling!

I take:

Vitamin D3 and K2
BioKult probiotic
Sea Buckthorn (for dry eyes)

The sea buckthorn has really helped my dry eyes and the probiotic has helped my digestion. I also eat a kiwi fruit every day to prevent constipation, which is the ONLY thing to ever work for this.

mizu · 01/12/2021 21:59

@BoPeeple i think so but guess I need to take it longer - only been 4 months ish.

I think my hair is thicker but I always seem to lose more during the autumn.......and my skin is a little brighter ...... I have been sleeping quite well though ( DH on nights Grin) so who knows!

I will take it for a few more months.

Delatron · 01/12/2021 22:03

I take:

Vitamin D (with K2)
Magnesium Citrate
Vitamin C
Krill oil
Collagen powder
Spatone (runner and always low on iron)
In winter I take an ‘immunity blend’ with all sorts in it like garlic, astralagus, oregano, probiotics...
I drink kefir every morning.
Drink Cherry night powder at night for sleep.

Who knows if it does anything. I eat well but there’s lots in there that I couldn’t get from diet.

Everyone should take vitamin D from Oct-March.

defnotadomesticgoddess · 01/12/2021 22:08

I was taking vit d tablets but my blood test showed still under normal so changed to the spray which seems to have helped

ItWasntMyFault · 01/12/2021 22:19

I take a supermarket own brand Skin, Hair and Nails supplement,
glucosamine chondroitin and vitamin C and cod liver oil.

@Inmypjsagain

Vit D3, magnesium, calcium, zinc, iron, collagen and I’m taking biotin for hair but I don’t think it’s working.

I’m 4 months post partum and my hair is falling out, I guess it’s hormones but I’d love to find something to help it!

Don't worry it's just the hair that didnt fall out when you were pregnant, that why they say pregnant women bloom as hair gets thicker etc. It'll stop soon and you won't be bald, promise!

I take multivit, vit C, vit D. Hangover from IVF days and I find it helps with immunity

Delatron · 01/12/2021 22:25

Yes I take the vitamin D in a spray (Better You) and when tested last year my levels were good in November.

Inmypjsagain · 01/12/2021 22:27

@QuiltedHippo thank you! I wish I bloomed in pregnancy, certainly didn’t feel like it 😂 glad to hear I won’t be bald, I’ll try to panic less every time I brush my hair…!

AvocadoAndToast · 01/12/2021 22:29

Combined D and K2
Iron
B12
A few times a year I get a box of vegan omega 3 from algae oil.
