Baked beans on toast with cheese is the food of the gods

No time to prep proper food today so we had beans on rye toast, slathered with butter, grated mature cheddar on top and lots of black pepper.

Kids had just beans as above and I fried some green pepper and sugar snaps peas to add to mine.

Initially I felt guilty about giving kids a lazy tea but by the end I felt no guilt at all, it was so bloody good 😊

Oh and you need to add butter to the beans while they're cooking

To me it's only acceptable if the toast is un buttered so not soggy, cheese next to protect toast from bean juice then scooped beans rather than pored so juice is limited. Crunchy and delicious

Sorry. I loathe baked beans so definitely not my idea of food of the gods .

DD just had baked beans with pasta tonight.
She turned down the salmon i was cooking for me and dh. She has Covid and fancied comfort food.

For dinner yesterday I had beans on toasted Polish sourdough bread with a soft fried egg. It was so nice that I went with beans on toast with scrambled eggs for dinner today.
My DH once said we were well met because we both like baked beans with a bit of curry powder added.

The nobby is the end of the loaf.
I wonder what gherkins are like on beans, now?
Something vinegary would definitely work, I think.

2 layers of butter minimum
One melted in and one on top, maybe another if that melts in too.
Just toast your toast really well. That’s the secret.

Smother the toast in a thick layer of Philly, then beans, grated cheese and black pepper. It is SO delicious! I said to DH just the other day beans on toast would be one of my desert island foods. Going to try adding Marmite now!

I'm worried about adding extras, in case it detracts from the beans.

Beans are the devil's work. They ruin perfectly good toast and make it soggy 🤢

I will admit that while the dc have theirs in the traditional on top of toast manner, I prefer mine with toast on the side. No sogginess that way.

My fave beans are...
Diced half onion cooked until soft, add beans, add pinch of smoked paprika, a dollop of hot chilli sauce.
Serve on buttery toast.

Cheese beano's are also great if you have a toastie maker.
Add one spoon of beans in each half pocket and sprinkle with cheese, place on top bread layer & carefully close the lid to seal the edges. Scrumptious!
