Baked beans on toast with cheese is the food of the gods

No time to prep proper food today so we had beans on rye toast, slathered with butter, grated mature cheddar on top and lots of black pepper.

Kids had just beans as above and I fried some green pepper and sugar snaps peas to add to mine.

Initially I felt guilty about giving kids a lazy tea but by the end I felt no guilt at all, it was so bloody good 😊

Baked potato, butter, grated cheddar, beans, more cheddar, salt and black pepper with a side salad covered in salad cream and many pickled onions is one of my favourite ever meals. Really can't beat it

In my defence, I don't inflict the green bits on anyone else - it's just for me and it's not penitential at all (to me), I genuinely like it more that just beans 🤷‍♀️😊

I like my beans when they've gone slightly gloomy at the edges of the container.
Almost burnt toast, loads of pepper and a smidge of salt to taste.

My beans were from Aldi and none the worse for it. I expect this will lose me supporters but in the interests of honesty I feel full disclosure is necessary 👀

Well I think I'll certainly have to try the marmite trick next time. I'm also intrigued by capers - I love a good caper though I feel they'd be too salty with the cheese. And I do love the cheese aspect of the thing.

It toasts up in a shape that's just right for holding hot beans.

It’s so mumsnet to have beans on rye bread with veg added in- not heard of that one before
But beans on white bread (even sometimes cheap white sliced bread!) with cheese on top is lovely, but if I was choosing my personal choice is cheesy scrambled egg on toast instead!
