Baked beans on toast with cheese is the food of the gods

No time to prep proper food today so we had beans on rye toast, slathered with butter, grated mature cheddar on top and lots of black pepper.

Kids had just beans as above and I fried some green pepper and sugar snaps peas to add to mine.

Initially I felt guilty about giving kids a lazy tea but by the end I felt no guilt at all, it was so bloody good 😊

That's all.

I used to love baked beans, but they don't taste the same anymore. I must see if I can order Branston baked beans on line, they were always better than Heinz but I don't see them in Irish supermarkets.

Each to their own, but I just couldn't deal with the mixed textures of what you've described, OP!

Beans and cheese on toast is amazing but not on rye bread and definitely never with green veg.

Agree beans on toast (or in a jacket potato) can be improved by mixing in marmite. And adding cheese.

But green vegetables have no business being on the same plate as baked beans imo.

Baked potato, butter, grated cheddar, beans, more cheddar, salt and black pepper with a side salad covered in salad cream and many pickled onions is one of my favourite ever meals. Really can't beat it

Agreed. I have to have gluten free bread these days which slightly dilutes the experience but yes.

Add home made pickled onions & a glass of red wine. Perfect.

I always add a can of red kidney beans to the baked beans.

Used to have baked bean toasties as kids. In those pocket type toasty machines. The beans were like LAVA.

Try spreading the toast with Lurpak garlic butter instead of regular butter, before the beans. It's so good!

You always here about cheesy beans on toast, or jacket potato beans and cheese, but no one ever mentions the ultimate, fed me through uni, pasta beans and cheese with Lee & perins.

To the rye bread naysayers - you are prob imagining dark rye but this is white rye. It's a fav here with all the dc - sourdough polish white rye. Sounds vair naice but is actually pretty cheap from Tesco.

I absolutely love beans with added veg - when I was a drunken teen my go to late night snack was cheesy beans with chopped red pepper

Beans on French toast is lovely! (No cheese on this version.)
I also use Aldi Honey soaked seeded bread, Lurpak, and mix white pepper into the beans while heating them up.
