Got tickets for a gig - would you go?

I've got tickets for a gig in a couple of weeks time. With the crackdown in covid measures and whispers of a lockdown, thinking about whether to try and sell my tickets or still plan to go and then be prepared to lose the money if there is a lockdown? What would you do?

I've waited 2 years for this gig- it's not a theatre show or something that can be rebooked but very nervous of covid!

I would go - I can't see their being another lockdown to be honest. If there is a lockdown, surely the tickets would be refunded anyway?

Mrsjayy · 29/11/2021 15:01

I would just plan to go and it will probably be rescheduled if there is an issue, I don't think there is talk of lockdowns Is there?

CMOTDibbler · 29/11/2021 15:04

We're trying to resell ours for the end of next week. Its an unseated venue, and it just doesn't seem like a great idea

A lot of gigs are being postponed now anyway, so don't bank on it going ahead. DP is freelance in the industry and about a week ago, he was booked for several events in our local arena scheduled for December, but as of yesterday about half of them had been postponed or cancelled.

TikkyFlikky · 29/11/2021 15:29

If the gig is cancelled you should get a refund anyway.
But be prepared for most of the audience NOT to be wearing masks. That's what I've found anyway.

TuftyMarmoset · 29/11/2021 15:39

I’d go. I went to the opera yesterday and it was packed full of old people out enjoying themselves. I just wore a mask the whole time.

gogohm · 29/11/2021 15:40

I would, went to one last Saturday

Sparklingbrook · 29/11/2021 15:41

I wouldn't go. I went to my son's graduation last week assuming everyone would be all masked up but they weren't. Sad

LivingOnTheVeg · 29/11/2021 15:47

If you bought your ticket directly, and the show has to be postponed or cancelled for any reason (although I can’t see this happening) then you’ll have a valid ticket for the new date or you’ll get a refund. If you resell then the buyer wouldn’t get a refund in the event of a cancellation as they bought from you and not the venue - you would get the refund. You won’t lose money at all, but someone else might if you sell it on. If you’re purely worried about the measures then that’s another story, but honestly, I’d go and enjoy yourself if you feel safe enough.

Cas112 · 29/11/2021 15:55

Go, if another lockdown was to happen (which I highly doubt) then they will reschedule or refund you

WheelieBinPrincess · 29/11/2021 16:23

Absolutely, I’ve got my fingers firmly crossed that I can go to the Libertines next month.

Been way too long since I saw some live music.

myamie · 29/11/2021 16:23

I have a gig this Saturday (New Model Army) and a Levellers the following Friday. I was getting twitchy about it but now DS has Covid so I won't be going on Saturday anyway now.

I just don't fancy hot sweaty room with drunk idiots breathing all over me - but it's more likely me that the risk to them at the moment.

RedDeadRoach · 29/11/2021 17:35

Yeah it's standing tickets, so everyone will be crammed in. I'm more worried about the risk of catching covid just before Christmas.

Mrsjayy · 30/11/2021 08:54

If you are anxious resell them there is no point in going and being miserable.

notacooldad · 30/11/2021 09:08

myamie
Small hijacker - The Levellers were great in Manchester on Friday. Probably best I've seen them. Looked really happy to be in stage again.

OP. Personally I would ho. I've got 3 gigs this week and two the week after next.
If they cancel it will be rescheduled.

Champagneforeveryone · 30/11/2021 09:09

DS is going tonight with 3 friends and I am the taxi service (it was the only way to stop DS driving them, and he only passed his test six weeks ago)

They're in the standing area and are relieved that they will not have to wear masks. Personally I think it's a terrible idea but they are 17 and have already missed so much. I'm just trying not to think too much about his A-level mocks Confused

girlmom21 · 30/11/2021 09:28

I'd go

TheOnlyMrsW · 30/11/2021 11:27

@notacooldad I came on to say exactly the same thing, wasn't it fab! @myamie I hope you're able to get to at least the Levellers........OP I would definitely be going, we've got two gigs this week and our last of the year on the 17th December (now that one might be a bit dicey!)

makelovenotpetrol · 30/11/2021 12:01

I'd go. You can catch covid anywhere and government guidelines are pretty much in line with just letting it rip through the community so it will make no difference.

Innatenvi · 30/11/2021 13:18

As long as you're not at the front you'll be able to keep your distance / wear a mask without too much discomfort. Usually near the back the crowd is a bit thinner. If there's seating as well, can you check on fan groups etc if anyone wants to swap their seated ticket for your standing one if that would make you feel a bit better?

Shouldbeworkingnotreadingtalk · 30/11/2021 13:34

Absolutely not a chance. Was very flippant about getting covid, until I hit it on Friday. Now feel like I am dying. Quite literally the worst I've ever felt. No way would I want to feel like this over Christmas. And I'm grateful I'm getting it now at least, but no, I wouldn't go.

JustLikea · 30/11/2021 20:32

I went to a gig last weekend and they limit the numbers so you're not crammed in.

I had a brilliant time.

RedDeadRoach · 01/12/2021 12:13

I've decided to put my tickets up for resale, there's no seated tickets sadly, id have been happier to go if they were seated. If they don't sell then I've still got the option to go. Having a covid free Christmas is more important than the gig, considering we've got young kids to think of. Thanks so much for all your thoughts though.

Absolutely I would.
I'm going to see Ash next week and looking forward to it.

WheelieBinPrincess · 01/12/2021 12:16

Ash! They are bloody brilliant live. Have fun 🤩
