I keep saying hi alexa but its ignoring me

If you have prime you'll get the basic music option (I have music unlimited) you just say "Alexa, play Christmas songs" or any other type of music you like

Or if you have Spotify on your phone you can connect to a device

Is it the nee or old version of the dot?

I said to it alexa play oh holy night but nothing happened

I dont have spotify or prime and i dont know what version it is

You could ask Alexa how you get her to play music so you can hear her say "Hmmm, I don't know that one" and should learn to love that answer because boy, is it going to become familiar.

Does it look like this? If so when you say Alexa the blue light should come on & you talk to her when the light is on

Can you return it for a refund? Or hurl it at something solid (more satisfying, less financially wise)?

Are you allowing a gap between saying "Alexa" and providing the request? The light on the device after saying "Alexa" will indicate that it's listening. Also, presume you've already connected it to WIFI via the app? Otherwise it's not going to do anything.
