Does anyone else have a baby tooth as an adult?

My lateral incisor never came through and the baby tooth is still hanging on in there (early 30s). I had a check up today and the dentist said it's looking good but we might need to have a chat about other options in years to come Shock

Will I need a denture? I really don't want that Shock

My mum had this - she must have been in her 40s when she had it removed. She already has a plate (front teeth knocked out as a child in a car accident) so I think it got added to there - it was more than 20 years ago now.

MassiveHoard · 25/11/2021 20:05

Yes I have two! It's not something I think about too much. What will be will be.

Daisychainsandglitter · 25/11/2021 20:07

I have a couple as well. I'm 37 and they're looking a little worn down now. Not helped by the fact that I grind my teeth.
My dentist has previously told me that they will need to be replaced at some point.

Yes. The dentist covered it up years ago...probably a technical name for this but i forget!

Valaris · 25/11/2021 20:08

I have one. The dentist said that it will eventually fall out and once it's gone, it's gone. There's nothing behind it. It's one of the molars tho so I'll just have a gap.

Longdistance · 25/11/2021 20:08

I had this in my late teens. I still had a milk incisor tooth. They did and X-ray and found it stuck in my pallet. I had a brace fitted and eventually my tooth from my pallet was brought forward. This was done by exposing my tooth under GA.

spagbog5 · 25/11/2021 20:09

Dd 2 (22) has two and dd1 was the same but they were removed when she had braces as a teenager and it was found her adult teeth were missing.

lettucehems · 25/11/2021 20:10

Hopefully I get another few years out of it!

Yes I've got quite a few and so did my sister! 2 of them basically crumbled in my early 20's. One was just about saved and has a crown on it and is still fine and the other had to be removed.

The remaining 3 are all ok so far. I hope they last me!

You could consider a Pontic bridge on an implant if you’re flush £££

Disfordarkchocolate · 25/11/2021 20:13

I knew someone who had a few as an adult.

I also know someone who had two full sets of baby teeth including a fang in the top of their mouth!!

Volterra · 25/11/2021 20:16

I’ve got 3. I know at least one will go soon but they have lasted 52 years so pleased with that.

lljkk · 25/11/2021 20:17

Age 54 & still have one. Clinging by a vestigal root, I'm told. It would go if I ate very hard foods.

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 25/11/2021 20:17

My mum has all of hers, well those that are left ! She never had adult teeth come through. It is a recognised condition but I can't remember the name.

ChrissyPlummer · 25/11/2021 20:19

Used to work with someone who had all of his. He’s in his 60s now and still has them!

soontobeanana · 25/11/2021 20:20

I have one - it's one of my front teeth and I'm in my 60's!
My dentist just always says "it's hanging on in there"

lettucehems · 25/11/2021 20:23

It would be so visible if I lost it so vain as it is, it is something I'd do my utmost to help!

HelloCanYouHearMe · 25/11/2021 20:24

Yup, I have one. My dentist points it out every time I go!

frogsbreath · 25/11/2021 20:25

I have two! One has a crown.

The two in same place on bottom were removed but you can't see the gaps.

lettucehems · 25/11/2021 20:26

She gave it a bloody hard poke, let me tell you Shock

I do. I’m 35... I do forget about it actually. Until I saw this thread!

HerRoyalHappiness · 25/11/2021 20:30

I have 3 of them. Luckily for me all molars so wouldn't be visible should I lose them at any point. But I've no adult teeth (been xrayed) so I'll just have a gap.

Quickchangeartiste · 25/11/2021 20:31

Yes I have one, late 50s. Dentist crowned it so it looks like an adult tooth. It’s going nowhere.

Rubyupbeat · 25/11/2021 20:32

yes I had 7, and in my 40s had them replaced by bridges, although now I would have considered implants.

GremlinDolphin4 · 25/11/2021 20:34

I had one and it lasted 47 years!
