I can’t fathom what I’m seeing. She has literally got a new face? It’s hurting my head

I'm in two minds about it really. I loved Madonna, but I do think she's either mentally unstable, or she surrounds herself with people tho do not have her best interests at heart. I do wonder if anyone close to her ever says that what she's doing isn't a good idea. I doubt it. I'm not a fan of surgery, in particular the blow up doll type face that some people seem to go for, I don't think it's ever flattering!

I conversely also think though, as others have said, the majority of her career has been built about provoking and shocking people, so I guess this is just a continuation of that. It doesn't appeal to me though. But a mid 40s mum of two is probs not her target demographic! 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

I think it's good to see an older woman doing what she wants - and we all know Madonna likes shocking people with sex. It's just a shame that she's taken her head off, had it made to look like she has the face of a 30 year old and then stuck it back on again. It's hard to celebrate an older woman when they've made their face look like someone half their age IMO.
Also why have the shoot done in a scabby flat - is the cheap, seedy look what she was going for? To keep in with the - nobody got paid despite working long hours because there was no budget - line. Errr why not pay your staff yourself Madonna, I'm sure you can afford it.
And it's not art, no more than some poor trafficked woman having 'sexy' half naked pictures of herself taken is art.
I think Madonna is living in some alternative reality where people just do what she wants because she's 'Madonna' and she really believes the hype. She could have gone down so many routes to empower women as they age in her own 'Madge' way, but instead she bought into the whole 'women are only valued for their looks' view and became completely looks obsessed and ego driven. A shallow shell IMO which is a shame as she has, or at least had, so much influence.

It is a shame that we don’t see more diversity though. People seem so desperate to look 18 that we lose sight of what a 60 year old lady actually looks like. And many ladies that age that I know are beautiful - they just (naturally) look older.

@Kanaloa couldn't agree more! It's like saying beyond a certain age and you've had it. We should embrace the beauty of growing older. Yes I use anti aging cream etc but she's taken it to the next level.

Just thinking about filters and whether they have been created by males with a bias, like many other applications, programmes and AI. E.g are people inadvertently filtering themselves into the male ideal set within the app?

I saw her on Graham Norton a couple of years ago. She was wearing a corset and jacket and sky scraper heels (so far, no surprise) when she sat down her cleavage was nearly in her face and she seemed really self conscious and uncomfortable with it. It made me wonder whether a) she chooses her own outfits (I would absolutely have assumed she would) b) she tested what they would be like sitting down, rather than posing for photos.
It made me think what is the point of wearing something "racy" or shocking if actually you don't feel comfortable with it. If she had said something breezy or laughed about having her boobs under her chin, I would have probably thought fair enough, but it just seemed really awkward.

My understanding of feminism is freedom to choose, what is freeing about living by a set of prescribed 'feminist rules' .
There seems to be the expectation that as women age, we should cover up and just disappear, good on her for challenging that.

I don't particularly want to see Niki Minaj's arse, but no one on here would be saying its disgusting and think of the children, because she's the right age. Why is it ok to do it at 30 and not 63 ?

I agree that the pressure on women to 'grow old gracefully' is just another pressure added on top of the pressure not to age at all!

You never hear 'he should age gracefully' directed at men because men are allowed to just....age!

I saw pictures of Russell Crowe this week online, there is no fucking way a female actress would be able to 'age' in the way that he is.

Madonna will get to her 70s, barely being able to move her face at all probably, like Cher. But I assume she knows this and is happy to proceed so good luck to her.

But the point is she looks like a different person and is trying to keep herself at 30. She could be a really beautiful older women with a few subtle changes and you can celebrate an older women looking amazing. This isn't celebrating older women it's trying to turn them into 30 year olds again.

Does it matter if they have? It’s not like anyone’s being forced to use them? It would be kind of sad and pathetic if we start demanding that male computer programmers make vanity filters which play to our bias and not theirs, whatever the hell that would look like. I think it’s pretty obvious that looking young and hot has a lot to do with male bias for that and we would just be deluding ourselves by thinking putting massive effort into looking younger and hotter could ever be anything but heavily influenced by male bias.

Surely the sensible thing to do if you don’t want to appeal to male bias would be simply not use the fucking filters in the first place. Or use them but accept that being seen as beautiful does inevitably have a lot to do with male bias (which is fine if that’s what you like, I guess many including myself to a point do).

I don't mind her posting racy pictures. Why shouldn't a woman of 63 be sexy? But the message is really conflicted when that 63 year old has gone out of her way to try to disguise the fact she is 63.

I feel really sad for her. She's gone way to far. Looks like she had developed real dysmorphia around her looks and looks damaged like Jordan or Alicia Duvall. Who is advising her? What surgeon would keep doing this ?

I read Madonna say somewhere that she wasn’t a feminist though so she’s not really being hypocritical in “playing to the patriarchy” - it’s pretty clear a lot of female celebs are cool with that even if they claim otherwise for PR. I’m not judging I don’t consider myself a feminist either - just saying it’s kind of pointless to criticise her for not being something she’s said she doesn’t want to be.

She obviously values being valued for sex appeal and already has - it’s just that there’s a right age limit to photograph your ass poking out under a bed and totally reform your face and that age is never.

I'm all for growing old disgracefully but the things she has done in recent years just smack of desperation. She seems desperate to remain 'young' looking and relevant and shocking like she once was.

She seems afraid of fading into obscurity. I don't think that would ever happen with her. She could be doing some really interesting stuff - not that she has to mind. It makes me a bit sad to see this, she was so strong and fierce but it seems she's as insecure as anyone else.

Getting old isn't always easy though. You still feel the same person as when you were 18 or 30 (well if you're lucky) but then you look in the mirror and you don't recognise that person. I think that is what isn't always obvious when people say, "She doesn't look like herself anymore." When you get older that can be how you feel if you haven't had work done and you suddenly see your mum or your gran looking back from the mirror.

I haven't had plastic surgery but on a bad day I'd say yes. I've decided never to look in the bathroom mirror again as it is so harsh, I have a lovely mirror in the downstairs loo and I look 20 years younger in that mirror. Sounds mad? Well I've got to the age where it's OK to be mad.

I did have my Madonna gap fixed about 55 years ago. Mine was caused by an oversized freenum (bit of skin that attaches lip to gum) and it would bleed when I brushed my teeth. Nothing about how it looked but I was fed up starting and ending every day with a sore mouth and bleeding.
