It's official - im old now

Ds who has just turned 8 was doing his homework which was a book report type assignment. He asked me "Mum have you heard of Harry Potter? This book is so old it was made in 1997." I was born in 1991 and Im only 30 next month but in my son's eyes I am now older than Harry Potter and this means I am the oldest person alive.

His dad is 35.

Another one. I was watching 'guardians of the galaxy' and I had to explain what a Walkman was, when I got to the bit about putting a tape in, she asked me what a tape was.

I also remember her asking me what that thing in the van door was (we'd hired a van to move), it was the window winder

Last night I realised I have started using the phrase 'in the 90s' like my parents say 'in the 60s'.

When DD1 came home from school and told me her new History topic was Apartheid- I did this at school too - in Modern Studies.

My own actual DS now has a proper grown up job and this years grad intake at my workplace are the same age (or a year younger) than he is!

Well the character was born in 1981 so you're actually younger than Harry Potter lol

I have 2 people in my team who are 29 and 32 and they have never used a fax. They think it’s hilarious that I can remember these being cutting edge technology in the workplace.

They’re very fortunate then. I’m 34 and regularly used fax at work for the first few years, in a number of different environments.

I first asked DH out by fax.

He kept it. We still have it somewhere in its crispy yellowed glory for the kids to snurk at.

When My DD was in high school, students were getting in trouble for using mobile phones in class. She said to me, “you can’t tell me you didn’t get into trouble for using mobile phones at school”.
I had to explain I got my first mobile phone when she was 1 and it was a brick, she was born in 1997. She still can’t believe how big phones were then.
