Ds who has just turned 8 was doing his homework which was a book report type assignment. He asked me "Mum have you heard of Harry Potter? This book is so old it was made in 1997." I was born in 1991 and Im only 30 next month but in my son's eyes I am now older than Harry Potter and this means I am the oldest person alive.

His dad is 35.

Fucking Harry Potter.

When did your kid first make you feel old?

Another one. I was watching 'guardians of the galaxy' and I had to explain what a Walkman was, when I got to the bit about putting a tape in, she asked me what a tape was.

I also remember her asking me what that thing in the van door was (we'd hired a van to move), it was the window winder Shock

Last night I realised I have started using the phrase 'in the 90s' like my parents say 'in the 60s'.

When DD1 came home from school and told me her new History topic was Apartheid- I did this at school too - in Modern Studies.

My own actual DS now has a proper grown up job and this years grad intake at my workplace are the same age (or a year younger) than he is!

Courtier · 26/11/2021 14:18

Well the character was born in 1981 so you're actually younger than Harry Potter lol

Dealing with a client at work and noted that they were born in 1995 … said to my colleague, ‘Ach it’s hard being a teen parent, I hope she’s got good support’ …

‘She’s twenty six’ replies my colleague …

Parents evenings with teachers who look like they should still be in school.

When you buy alcohol and the 18 DOB pops up on the screen and you realise that these people are actually legally allowed to buy alcohol now.

At work setting up new starters and one of them is younger than my eldest child.

Also at work setting up starters and realising that you probably know the newbie who grew up on your street's parents rather than the newbie.

And last but not least when my DS friend was around here about 9 years ago and was talking about party in the park and how excited he was to go. I said I had been as a tenner and he turned and said wide eyed "OMG did you see the Beatles???"
I was born in 84.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 26/11/2021 15:24

*teen not tenner!!

I have 2 people in my team who are 29 and 32 and they have never used a fax. They think it’s hilarious that I can remember these being cutting edge technology in the workplace.

VaguelyInteresting · 26/11/2021 19:29

@SirChenjins

They’re very fortunate then. I’m 34 and regularly used fax at work for the first few years, in a number of different environments.

Lancelottie · 26/11/2021 20:30

I first asked DH out by fax.

He kept it. We still have it somewhere in its crispy yellowed glory for the kids to snurk at.

WeirdArchitecture · 26/11/2021 20:35

i dont have kids, but at 47 i am still shocked when i bump into old friends who have adult children Shock

Hamilfan · 27/11/2021 22:14

When I realised a colleague is 6 years younger than my DS - I'm only 38!

Weenurse · 27/11/2021 22:49

Old is 92.
My patient who is 98 told me this, I figure he should know 😎
When My DD was in high school, students were getting in trouble for using mobile phones in class. She said to me, “you can’t tell me you didn’t get into trouble for using mobile phones at school”.
I had to explain I got my first mobile phone when she was 1 and it was a brick, she was born in 1997. She still can’t believe how big phones were then.
