Yes he is. So am I.

Carlosa · 24/11/2021 18:55

No, we're both useless at it so either or doesn't get done or we hire someone !

scooterbear · 24/11/2021 18:57

No can't change a lightbulb

FAQs · 24/11/2021 18:59

Unless it’s something which needs certification people are capable of DIY, even YouTube is full of tutorials!

DustyMaiden · 24/11/2021 19:00

He’s brilliant, but slow.

supremelybaffled · 24/11/2021 19:00

No, he's crap.

Good at flat-pack furniture though.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 24/11/2021 19:00

Yep, but I'm better.

TheEncouragingStranger · 24/11/2021 19:00

He does things so that they will function. I do things so that they will function AND look good. So I usually insist on being the one to do it myself. But yes, he could do things easily enough, if I didn't care about aesthetics (and sometimes safety..!).

Santaischeckinglists · 24/11/2021 19:01

My first dh couldn't even change a light bulb.
Current dh is great at everything!!

Wallywobbles · 24/11/2021 19:02

Amazing and fast. Rebuilds historic houses for fun.

pumpkinpie01 · 24/11/2021 19:05

No , he is useless can barely use a drill actually I'm not sure he can use a drill at all 🤔

Chouxs · 24/11/2021 19:07

I am not the only one then?

OP posts:
icedcoffees · 24/11/2021 19:09

Yes - he's excellent at it but it is his job.

Getting him to actually DO it is another matter though Hmm

AuntMasha · 24/11/2021 19:13

Dh has shovels for hands. He is utterly hopeless at any kind of construction or engineering and allowing him anywhere near sharp tools would probably lead to him losing a leg.

WhatIsThisPlease · 24/11/2021 19:16

He thinks he is.

LoveFall · 24/11/2021 19:16

DH has an navy engineering background and can take apart almost anything electrical/electronic and fix it. He is actually amazing, he even solders broken circuit boards.

The only thing that defeated him was a Dyson fan.

ISeeTheLight · 24/11/2021 19:17

He's terrible. Can't even do lego. Although he's gotten better at building ikea furniture over the years.

Ulysses · 24/11/2021 19:22

No he’s terrible. I felt a lot better about when I read Michelle Obama’s autobiography and she said Barack didn’t do it either.

Ohdoleavemealone · 24/11/2021 19:24

He is okay but takes forever to get around to it.

TheCreamCaker · 24/11/2021 19:26

My husband has done several things in our house, over the course of 30 years:

knocked out the downstairs bathroom.
Created a bathroom upstairs by using part of a walk-in cupboard and part of our bedroom. Fitted complete bathroom suite and shower.
Knocked 2 rooms into one, giving us a lounge/diner with an archway
laid laminate flooring in lounge/diner and 2 bedrooms.
Built a porch at the front door.
Built a patio with a wall around and steps down to the garden, out the back.
Dug up conifers, made a path all along the side and back of the house.
Dug out some of the garden at the front and cemented it to make a car-parking space.
Fitted new skirtings throughout.
Painted & wallpapered throughout.
Fitted a new upvc back door.
Fitted a new toilet in the utility area.
Hung new internal doors throughout.

He's done all plumbing/electrical work on all the jobs he did.
He's a qualified electrician (although doesn't do that as an employment.

TheCreamCaker · 24/11/2021 19:27

I nearly forgot - he built himself a brick-constructed shed/garage.

PoppyMonth · 24/11/2021 19:29

Yes, brilliant.

He can turn his hand to anything. Except plastering, he's terrible at that.

FindingMeno · 24/11/2021 19:30

Hmm.
His ideas on what he can do, and the reality to my spec differ.
I've started teaching myself how to do things instead.

Arsewangry · 24/11/2021 19:31

Good at - yes

Quick at - no

Immaculatemisconception · 24/11/2021 19:31

My DH is a god when it comes to DIY.
