Today I discovered podcasts…

So I realise I am way behind the times here…

Today after realising I was so bored listening to the radio evening after evening on my commute home I decided to dabble into the world of podcasts. I remember someone recommending happy mum happy baby and so listened to an episode on the way home and really enjoyed the change. It was so refreshing to listen to something interesting! So I would love it if people can recommend some podcasts for me! What are your favourites?? I feel like I’m entering a whole new world!

@Mamamamasaurus - I’ll thank you now. Anything crime related is great as far as I’m concerned!

Something was wrong. Its about relationships that turn out to be not what they seemed. Double lives, toxic friendships, affairs etc.

theneverendinglaundry · 22/11/2021 20:35

Blindboy is my favourite.

Adam Buxton also very good, but I dont always listen as it depends on who he is interviewing. Can get boring if I'm honest (SORRY BUCKLES) But I love his Christmas podcasts with Joe.

@Spottyspotladybird

Sorry didn’t realise there was a recent thread! Will be sure to look at suggestions on that as well! Wasn’t sure where podcast chat may be found on here.
There's a thread on this most weeks Grin

If you do a search for podcast in the title of the thread you'll get loads of results.

My friend listens to the shipping forecast to nod off to. I love her, she's brilliant! Me? I prefer a podcast or an audio book! My local library have free audio books or, if I'm in the mood for a certain topic, I'll google podcast and subject title.

suckingonchillidogs · 22/11/2021 22:40

I've just discovered We Didn't Start the Fire. It's based on the Billy Joel song and they devote each episode to one of the events mentioned in the lyrics. It's like a lesson on recent history on a wide variety of subjects, it's really good

Jaw-dropping

HollowTalk · 22/11/2021 23:09

Great thread. Placemarking for inspiration.

Anchoredowninanchorage · 22/11/2021 23:22

I listen to lots of podcasts on Spotify:
Stuff they don’t want you to know
Stuff to blow your mind
Tanis
Rabbits
The midnight library
Doctor death
To live and die in la
Disgraceland
Lore
The white vault

And on .... so many awesome podcasts available

AppleBottomedJeans · 22/11/2021 23:27

End of days - about Waco

Popkids · 22/11/2021 23:39

Annie Macmanus - Changes. She's a great interviewer and gets interesting guests (both celebs and non-celebs)

Jay Rayner's - Out to lunch. Celebs chatting with him over lunch. Interesting and fun but not one for Misophonics.

How to fuck up an airport - weird pod telling the story of the Berlin's much delayed and way over budget airport. It should be dull but is absolutely hilarious. Everything that could go wrong did and it definitely nails the stereotypes of German efficiency.

Bad Cops - BBC World. Series about a corrupt police unit. Like a real version of the wire. Shocking and fascinating.

I discovered pods in lockdown and I'm now a total convert!

Fbawtft · 22/11/2021 23:41

It’s been mentioned a lot but “you’re dead to me” is brilliant.

I also love “the infinite monkey cage” which is a similar concept but all about science rather than history.

Luzina · 22/11/2021 23:42

Ear Hustle - it’s a narrative podcast made in San Quentin prison about life in prison as well as life after prison. It’s really really good

buddhasbelly · 22/11/2021 23:59

@ThirdElephant if you don't have eg Spotify you can use Google podcasts app, amazon music, BBC sounds and each has a section for podcasts where you can search by genre. You can either listen/stream (which will use your data if listening on the go) or download epsidoew on your WiFi before leaving your house (there'll be a wee download icon) they usually delete off your phone after 30 days.

"S Town" by Brian Reed an investigative journalist was fascinating. About a possible murder and a very skilled clock maker. Fascinating listen.

Groundedtraveller · 23/11/2021 01:10

Love a walk and a podcast. I listen to: How to Fail by Elizabeth Day, Grounded with Louis Theroux, Happy Place by Fearne Cotton, Desert Island Discs, Table Manners, Happy Mum Happy Baby.

BobbieT1999 · 23/11/2021 03:03

The Whisperer in the Darkness (BBC) is brilliant.

More votes from me for guilty feminist, dead to me and no such thing as a fish.

Also love 'Talk Art' ...and the food medic is wonderful too.
David Tennants podcast has some good episodes too!

Krabapple · 23/11/2021 03:16

Placemarking - am going to try some of these.

ElftonWednesday · 23/11/2021 03:49

A lot of podcasts are just irritating to me as they are quite amateurish and not made like proper radio programmes. A lot of the ones people list hear are actual (R4) radio programmes which is why they are good.

ElftonWednesday · 23/11/2021 03:49

here Hmm

Callmecordelia · 23/11/2021 04:02

The BBC ones are good.

My favourites that I don't think have been mentioned yet are Thirteen Minutes to the Moon and The Missing Crypto Queen.
