Today I discovered podcasts…

So I realise I am way behind the times here…

Today after realising I was so bored listening to the radio evening after evening on my commute home I decided to dabble into the world of podcasts. I remember someone recommending happy mum happy baby and so listened to an episode on the way home and really enjoyed the change. It was so refreshing to listen to something interesting! So I would love it if people can recommend some podcasts for me! What are your favourites?? I feel like I’m entering a whole new world!

Fake Heiress, brilliant documentary about a woman who fooled American height society int9 thinking she was rich.

SilverPeacock · 22/11/2021 19:41

Off Menu is fun.

If you have audible there are some good ones on there. West Cork is excellent.

gogohm · 22/11/2021 19:41

Forgot "no such thing as a fish" love that and fortunately is good too

Thank you for all the amazing suggestions. I now have 28 podcasts lined up to try! So thats at least a few weeks of trying out new ones! Grin I’m feeling weirdly excited about my commute now.

I know a few people have said it depends what I like. I personally like crime, history, politics, but also easy listening things like parenting, current issues etc.
Happy for anything to recommended though as may give ideas to others!

ShowOfHands · 22/11/2021 19:44

Fortunately is brilliant. I'm rather in love with Fi and Jane.

We also love You're Dead To Me.

HappyGirl86 · 22/11/2021 19:46

I love 'Crime and cocktails'

Spottyspotladybird · 22/11/2021 19:48

Ok so you’re dead to me is definitely getting lots of recommendations! I think this will be my choice for Wednesday! (Tomorrow will be my favourite murder) - again quite a few people mentioning this.

Thank you for this thread! I get homicidal if I have to listen to the radio for more than 30 mins and have a regular long drive so love podcasts, but running out! Taking ideas from here, and my contributions are:

Scummy Mummies, very funny
Fortunately
The Life Coach School
Anything with Dr Annie Grey the food historian

I also download back episodes of Womens Hour, The Long View, Desert Island Discs to play

And get the TED app, loads of interesting talks on there, just pick a theme and let it play on!

White Wine Question Time!

Spottyspotladybird · 22/11/2021 19:49

@HappyGirl86 - crime and cocktails - love just the name of this. Definitely adding it to the list.

Stuff you should know

Short history of

Blahblahblow · 22/11/2021 19:51

Feel better, live more is excellent and potentially life changing. Every week a different expert on physical or mental health/wellbeing is invited to talk at length about their work, to a British GP who is passionate about integrated, preventative healthcare.

I think it’s the most popular health podcast in the world and I can see why.

As a start, try the conversation with Matt Walker about why we sleep.

CampervanQueen · 22/11/2021 19:51

Death in Ice Valley is a good one if you like unsolved mysteries/crime. It's on BBC Sounds.

Blahblahblow · 22/11/2021 19:53

Also You’re Dead to Me is another favourite. It’s all the highlights of historical figures- all killa no fills (but pick a figure that peaks your interest).

Rina66 · 22/11/2021 19:53

I'm not sure if this will work, but this was a thread a few weeks ago that might help.

Anybody listen to Podcasts?

*all killa no filla

Spottyspotladybird · 22/11/2021 19:53

@OneMoreForExtra - you’re more than welcome. I honestly can’t believe I have tolerated capital and radio 1 for the last 10 years of commuting. It’s just the same songs each day. I commute but also a few days do patient visits so have plenty of driving time to fill! Have added your suggestions! Scummy mummy’s I’m sure I’ve heard of (but probably ignored until today!)

@ajandjjmum - white wine and question time - sounds like something I would love thanks!

Umm...I'm behind the times too... what's a podcast? Blush

AppleBottomedJeans · 22/11/2021 19:54

The white vault
Passenger list
Tracks

Pinkhippotato · 22/11/2021 19:54

All the above! I also sometimes just type the name of someone I'm interested in into the search bar, and podcasts they are in come up.
Or, say, stand up comedy or adhd, or careers (works on Spotify anyway...)
It's opened up a whole new world!
There's also a mumsnet AIBU podcast series from a couple of years ago, which had me crying with laughter sometimes.
Wish they'd do another one!
