I've recently started working later so having to cook later, We've always eaten about 5/6pm so finishing after this time then having to get home and cook feels so late. Colleagues say they always eat 7/8ish anyway, so were surprised we ate so early before.

Just curious on times others eat main meal now (with children aged over 10yrs) on a working week day.

7.30 - 8pm.

Aldehyde · 20/11/2021 19:24

5pm, or if lunch is later 2-3pm then nowt but have a snack at 7.

WinterFirTree · 20/11/2021 19:26

5.30. DH works from home and I am SAHM. We get up around 5 am and are in bed by 8.30, and none of us can sleep on a full stomach. So dinner is over by 6 pm, then I supervise homework and DH deals with our (many animals) and showers and bed. Lights out at 9.

very very different days from when I had a mega commute and was home at 8.20-ish pm! Then Dh would have fed and put the boys to bed and would have eaten with them and sit drinking tea with me while I ate something.

StarryNightSparkles · 20/11/2021 19:27

Usually about 8pm

mathanxiety · 20/11/2021 19:28

7:30-8:00

SprayedWithDettol · 20/11/2021 19:28

8pm or a bit later. If we have people over it can be 9ish - though drinks start at 8.

HerRoyalWitchyness · 20/11/2021 19:28

We have ours really early at 5pm. The kids don't last much longer before they're hungry and as it's only me and them we all eat together.

Crunchymum · 20/11/2021 19:29

Kids eat at 5.30pm. I sit down and have a cuppa whilst they eat (or DP will of he is home)

Me and DP eat about 7ish.

Amberflames · 20/11/2021 19:30

9-10pm. We don’t eat with the kids in the week and don’t start cooking until they’re in bed.

Furzebush · 20/11/2021 19:31

Anywhere between about 7.30 and 9, depending whether it’s a week night or weekend etc.

Twospaniels · 20/11/2021 19:34

At about 7.20pm

We both work from home and husband cooks. He starts cooking at about 5.30 and likes to potter about in the kitchen winding down after work.

I’m sat on the sofa watching tv and ringing my elderly dad while husband cooks.

LtGreggs · 20/11/2021 19:43

About 6:30. Work full time, have a short commute home (like 10 mins ish).

I try to plan quick meals midweek, and have realised that it's better to leave work as promptly as possible to try & devote a bit more time for meal prep.

Kids are generally back from school around 6 (having been to sport or similar & got bus home). We have to be up at 6 so earlier dinner works with the early ish bedtime required.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 20/11/2021 19:43

5-5.30pm which everyone seems to think is outrageously early but we get to eat as a family then and so have just adapted to it.

Plus then you have a nice long evening instead of cooking a second time having fed children earlier.

Crabwoman · 20/11/2021 19:44

7:30 - 8:00pm I'd struggle with any earlier tbh

Starcaller · 20/11/2021 19:44

5.30-6 as we all eat together before DD goes to bed. I prefer to keep my time after she's asleep to maximise my binge watching instead Grin

Cuwins · 20/11/2021 19:45

6pm or before. No kids yet but that's the time we have always eaten.

Iamanicepersonreally · 20/11/2021 19:45

About half seven to eight

SunnyNights · 20/11/2021 19:51

Dinner at 6pm on weekdays then a bit more fluid at the weekends. Three children and we all eat together.

OppsUpsSide · 20/11/2021 19:52

Between 4.30-5.30

MintyGreenDream · 20/11/2021 19:52

Around 6

Arethechildreninbedyet · 20/11/2021 19:55

6-8:30 varying on the day/kids etc.

weegiemum · 20/11/2021 19:55

Depends really. Now the dc are older (the 2 at home are 18 and 20) we don't always sit down for a family meal. Dh gets home anytime between 6.30 and 8 (or sometimes even later) and ds likes to eat at 6.30, unless he's going to the gym when he has a snack earlier then eats after he gets home. Dd2 eats early as she's famished getting home from either college or work. I tend to wait for dh, to be sociable. I'm home ft as I'm disabled but studying flexibly so can take time out at whatever point to cook or eat.

It's a bit of a standing joke that ds appears at 6.25 asking when it's teatime. We do tend to eat at 6.30 or 7 at the weekend.

MarmitesMyMate · 20/11/2021 19:56
  1. 30 as soon as dh gets in. I cook so it's timed for then as hate the eating late Ans the clearing up. If he cooked it would be 9pm bu time he gets in showers sees kids etc
seriousandloyal · 20/11/2021 19:57

A580Hojas · 20/11/2021 19:58
