How? He shot 2 people dead in front of witnesses, but apparently it was "self defence"?

How? The prosecution didn't prove their case and the jury found him not guilty.

Clearest case of self defence you ever saw. Watch the video footage. Properly.

Whingasaurus · 19/11/2021 18:47

Self defence once of the clearest cases ever

KeflavikAirport · 19/11/2021 18:49

Fucking hell. It's going to kick off.

Welshiefluff · 19/11/2021 18:50

Have you even watched the video footage OP?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/11/2021 18:51

How? According to the law.

It’s up to the prosecutor to prove beyond reasonable doubt their case. They could not find their way out of a paper bag, let alone prove anything.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/11/2021 18:52

But yes, it will kick off, badly.

No one will care about the law.

BleuJay · 19/11/2021 18:53

Obvious case of self defence. I hope he sues the media and gets a similar payout to Nick Sandmann.

weegiemum · 19/11/2021 18:59

I've watched the footage and didn't think it was very cut and dried. But I think we all see things differently and that's why it took the jury 3 days.

The judge was a joke though.

I don't want things to kick off. I honestly didn't think my view was that controversial. Clearly I'm not very good at reading the room.

I agree it was self defence. It was stupid for his mother to allow/encourage a 17(!!) year old kid to go there during rioting - apparently to provide aid and stop property being burned - but looking at the video that was eventually released he ran away from the men who chased and attacked him and were shot.
One of the attackers was also armed and raised his own weapon after Rittenhouse lowered his.

What do you mean?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/11/2021 19:02

Why do you think the judge was a joke?

mathanxiety · 19/11/2021 19:11

Really glad I'm not in Kenosha tonight.

In my opinion, if you go to a place where there are protests, carrying a weapon, you are looking for trouble, and if you do get into trouble, you should be asked what you thought you'd end up doing with the gun.

A further question would be whether property is worth a life.

Also, who asked you to go there and bring your gun?

VsgKitt · 19/11/2021 19:14

So glad to hear this!

purpleboy · 19/11/2021 19:16

Sad story all round, but the right verdict was returned I think. This will haunt him forever, there are no winners here.

LondonWolf · 19/11/2021 19:26

The judge was a joke though.

I don’t want to dismiss your opinions but you’ve no idea what you’re talking about. It was clearly self defence, the prosecutor was the joke. He was warned repeatedly by the judge for his behaviour and some believe he pushed the boundaries as he did to force a mis-trial as he knew he had absolutely no way to bring any kind of real case. This was the right verdict. If he’d been found guilty then that wouldn’t have been the law, that would have been a verdict given because of and in fear of the media, and potential civil unrest/riots. A country with no law, where the media and propaganda decide who’s guilty and what is a crime would be a terrifying place to be.

EsmaCannonball · 19/11/2021 20:08

This is another of those cases where so much misinformation has been put out it's made me even more cynical about the media (like the Associated Press reporting on the recent Netflix walkout). Glenn Greenwald, Bari Weiss and Jesse Singal (three people I disagree with on a lot of things) have said some very pertinent things about this. It's made me very appreciative of the, sometimes frustrating, embargoes on reporting of active UK criminal cases. Even after the verdict I've seen reporters continue to repeat some of the factoids, in the Norman Mailer sense of the word, about this case.

I suspect Kyle Rittenhouse isn't exactly my cup of tea, and it seems insane that anyone asked a 17 year old to go out with a gun during a riot and protect their business. However, after seeing the evidence, I believe that Ziminski, who was armed with a gun, and Rosenbaum, who had raped several boys, had nefarious intentions towards Rittenhouse that night. That first shooting was clearly self-defence. After that things became tragically confused. The three other men who attacked Rittenhouse, one of whom had a gun, believed Rittenhouse was an active shooter and attacked him. Rittenhouse again had reason to believe his life was in danger and shot two of them, killing one. This is what happens when the authorities cede their responsibilities to out-of-their depth teenagers with guns.

Newpuppymummy · 19/11/2021 20:19

Agree it was self defence but the fall out won’t be great. The media has made this a circus

vinoandbrie · 19/11/2021 20:24

It was self defence.

5lilducks · 19/11/2021 20:33

The judge followed the law, not the media.

endofagain · 19/11/2021 20:38

This is just awful. I just can't understand why anybody is allowed to just go out with guns. It is insane.

Fluffycloudland77 · 19/11/2021 20:40

The Judge put up with a lot of abuse and is known to be a fair judge.

None of the lawyers should be getting death threats.

CovidCorvid · 19/11/2021 20:42

This is what happens when you legally let 17yos run round with guns. But I agree it seemed like self defence when I saw the footage. I was surprised he was facing a trial to be honest.

Spectre8 · 19/11/2021 20:43

Politicians and the media including Biden, have been absolutely atrocious, labelling him a white supremicist with zero factual evidence that he is one. Infact the prosecution never even used that in their case - why because there is no evidence. It's appalling how they are allowed to do this and get away with it. So many people think the media tells the truth or can't believe that they have agendas at play but here is a perfect example of how you cannot trust what the media put out.

I am glad he was found not guilty. Unfortunately his life will never be the same again.
