Can I share my news pls? After a terrible year of bereavements, serious family illness and poor wellbeing I finally have some good news! I've been offered a new job - no more shift work, no more crisis management, no more team politics. I can finally see DH and kids every day because I won't be working horrible rotating shifts! Can see my wider family and friends. Sort out looking after myself. Not be exhausted all the time! I'm so happy 😃

Many Congratulations OP, wish you every success in your new job. What will you be doing?

I recently started a new job too which has been life changing for me and my family. It's a great feeling.

NovemberNovemberDarkNights · 19/11/2021 00:11

I'm thrilled for you!!

When can you leave your current jib & when are you starting your bed jib?

However, it sounds like you're NHS? If you are, I'm sorry we've lost you!

BrownEyedWoman · 19/11/2021 00:13

Thanks @Asvan. It's admin management, can't believe I'll be working 9-5, with a lovely new team. I've been so scared to change jobs but this is hopefully the right decision. What is your new job doing? How has it improved your life? Any tips welcome

Thanks @NovemberNovemberDarkNights, I've got a meeting with my new manager tomorrow. They want me to start before Christmas but that feels too soon eek! It's at a University. My managers are going to be shocked, but it'll be so much better for me!

Good luck with your meeting today!

Starting before Christmas might be good, get to know a few people, about the job etc, then Christmas! & it won't seem so daunting in the new year.

Your managers probably will be shocked! But the probably shouldn't be given how you were feeling!

AllTheBooks · 19/11/2021 08:30

It sounds like such a positive change, congratulations! have you come from a uni background? Just a heads up that when I first started in uni admin after years of local authority work, I found the systems and terminology overwhelming and it took me a while to find my feet. So if it feels like too much (and Im aware this is coloured by my own experiences!) - stick with it, deep breaths and ask for help.

Hey OP

I've started working for the Civil Service. I Work from home, which is ideal for me. I have a great boss and the pay is good. There are also lots of opportunities for progression.

In my previous job there was no opportunity for progression, pay wasnt great and the management were awful. I never felt valued or appreciated.

When I first started the new job I felt so overwhelmed and felt like I just wasn't getting it. At some points I even doubted if I had made the right choice to move jobs or not but now that I am a few weeks into the job I am really happy and can safely say I'm so glad I took the chance and move on.

Hope things work out for you too and make sure you ask lots of questions if you are stuck with anything.

Good luck.

Apologies for the late reply - I have just got back from a long day at work 😴 Thank you for your kind replies. Ironically I was offered another job in the same Dept today so it gave me the opportunity to say 'no thanks' and tell them about my news role. It has got round the whole service very quickly (via people gossiping) which has done me a favour. I slept really well last night and know I've made the right decision re accepting the new job.

@NovemberNovemberDarkNights the meeting went really well and my new manager is lovely. Has talked about wfh, lots of training and how she will try to adapt my hours so I can do the school run. There's parking on-site and an hour luck break is mandatory for wellbeing- I'm in shock!!! She said the team are looking forward to me starting and I'm meeting her for coffee next week, I feel so lucky!

Great advice @AllTheBooks thank you. I've worked at the Uni for three years but the systems they use are different to the ones I know. I know I'm going to be 'in at the deep end' learning it all but def will ask for lots of help etc

@BrownEyedWoman. That all sounds brilliant!! Did you talk about start dates?

Ah the grapevine sometimes has its uses!!

Asvan · 19/11/2021 23:32

Yes thanks I am so much happier and I'm working in a role where I am making a positive impact on people's lives. Keep us updated on how you get on.

BrownEyedWoman · 20/11/2021 00:05

Yeah I'm starting first week of January which is a great way to start the new year. It was so funny to see the 'leak' where my news came from. My work friend tried to rile me up about it, but I just see it as another reason why it's good to get out lol

BrownEyedWoman · 20/11/2021 00:06

That's great @Asvan, happy it worked out for you. I'll def keep you posted, thanks again all xx

How’s it going @BrownEyedWoman ?

BrownEyedWoman · 10/02/2022 22:43

Hi @Rainydays55 thanks for thinking of me xx My new job is brilliant, lovely encouraging manager, supportive hardworking team and I've been made to feel very welcome. Working days has been amazing for my wellbeing and improved family life. Flip side is the new job can be incredibly demanding and I've come home a few times and cried as everything is so new to me. But I'm settling in and thanking my lucky stars mostly!

OP posts:
Rainydays55 · 11/02/2022 18:15

So pleased you are settling in well @BrownEyedWoman ! I start a new job in a couple of weeks and I’m already so nervous and so worried I’m making the wrong decision. I hate change but I didn’t not want to take this opportunity but I’m so scared ! Sounds stupid I know

BrownEyedWoman · 12/02/2022 18:42

Thanks @Rainydays55! Go for it and try out the new job, congrats by the way Thanks It could be the best thing you do, so some nerves are normal (because you care). What type of job is it?

OP posts:
Rainydays55 · 13/02/2022 14:04

Thank you @BrownEyedWoman ! It’s a similar role to what I’ve been doing the last ten years but in a completely new sector. I am partly excited but also so nervous because I hate change! I think I just feel settled with my current company and I ll really miss the people , even though I know I don’t want to stay there forever and I sort of want the change I’m sad about it too if that makes sense?!

Aquamarine1029 · 13/02/2022 14:09

I'm so happy for you, op.
