Just walked out of the cinema appx 30 mins in as it was sooooo awful. Anyone else find it terrible?

My friend said it was mostly Diana being sick. She said it was a terrible film.

WinterFirTree · 18/11/2021 20:22

I read a review where they say Diana dismissed a staff member with the words 'leave me now. I have to masturbate'.

I decided immediately it was not a film I wished to see.

MysteryFog60 · 18/11/2021 20:27

I wouldn't go and see it anyway. The lady should be left to rest in peace. There is no thought given to her sons. I certainly wouldn't want my deceased mum to be constantly in the public domain so that people can make money.

absolutelynotfabulous · 18/11/2021 20:36

God, it was awful. I stuck it, but there were people walking out of the cinema.

Lots of vomiting and even Anne Boleyn made an appearance. Grin

I was never a fan of Diana but I felt very conflicted about how she was portrayed in this.

LordEmsworth · 18/11/2021 20:42

Oh how interesting. I have never walked out of a film but I seriously considered it with Spencer.

I did actually like the "I want to masturbate" line!

Shock really ?!? Glad my mum didn't want to go now Blush
Thecazelets · 18/11/2021 21:10

Yes, utterly dreadful. Endless circulation of the same scenes - D in ballgown with her head in the loo, D being coaxed into the dining room also in a ballgown, D in the larder in her underwear stuffing cakes into her mouth. Heavily signposted symbolism at every turn and a terrible Anne Boleyn analogy. Just terrible. And v.boring. Cinema was almost empty when we went so I don't think it's a hit.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 19/11/2021 01:25

Thank God I missed the ‘masturbate’ bit. I gave up after the appearance of Anne Boleyn at the dinner party 😐

Oh we were thinking to see this
Glad I saw this thread

Someone with different taste told me it was brilliant and she'd watch it again.

CornishGem1975 · 19/11/2021 01:31

That's a shame as the trailer looked quite positive!

Nitgel · 19/11/2021 02:03

It's a fab film. Really different cinematic stuff. It's not meant to be a true biography of her life, you can find those films on True Movies. If you get it, you get it. I would recommend.

Draggondragon · 19/11/2021 02:07

That's so funny. I watched it in the middle east, they must have cut the masturbation bit Grin

Stopsnowing · 19/11/2021 02:15

Oh dear. The reviews were so good. I was going to take dd.

Nitgel · 19/11/2021 02:59
worth watching this review by Mark Kermode
TooManyAnimals94 · 19/11/2021 04:01

The guardian gave it four stars which should have been my first clue that it would be utter shite 😂 it's a very beautiful film with all the shots of Sandringham at Christmas and the dresses but other than that fairly pointless.

CormoranStrike · 19/11/2021 04:38

I found it largely boring and repetitive, but it did give a clear impression of the pressure-cooker existence and the horrible strain she found living in that dynamic.

Ha ha, my mum lives for the Guardian film reviews. She's always texting me film with the words "The Guardian gave it five stars". I instantly think - no, not seeing that then. I do not want to watch a silent biopic of a Peruvian shepherd in black and white, thanks.
ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 19/11/2021 06:03

It's the first film in a long time I considered walking out, and I like different, thought provoking films.

This was irritating, tedious, ridiculous, try hard and pointless. Using the character of Diana to carry what was essentially a shit story.

I didn't hate KS as Diana though, and I usually think she's a wooden shit actress!

Yusanaim · 19/11/2021 06:07

None of the actresses, imv, are as attractive as Diana was, so it misses the reason she was such a newspaper craze.

Ah yes you're right, we're just not clever enough to get it Hmm

I wasn't expecting a biography. I wouldn't have bothered going at all if I thought it would be a biography. By "different" I assume you don't mean "original".

It's great that you enjoyed it but that doesn't make the rest of us wrong.

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 19/11/2021 08:13

I knew what they were trying to do. I got it. I still thought it was shite.

Pheebs2021 · 19/11/2021 08:16

It was absolutely rubbish.
Didn't expect it to be the best of films but it shocked me how rubbish it was!

RedRec · 19/11/2021 08:32

Yes, it was utter, utter crap. So laughably bad that my daughter and I got a fit of the giggles whenever Anne Boleyn appeared. Got home and looked to see what my two favourite film reviewers thought of it (Peter Bradshaw and Mark Kermode). Was staggered to see that they liked it, especially Kermode who positively raved about it.
I did think the chef guy was good though.

OldTinHat · 19/11/2021 08:35

The masturbate bit was funny. But the film was dire. I get it was supposed to be a 'fable' but it was so depressing. I almost walked out but stuck it through. It was a harsh parody of Diana.

My favourite part was at the end when Diana and the boys are driving and singing in the car.

The casting was awful, especially when compared to The Crown.

rookiemere · 19/11/2021 08:53

It was soooo boring. By the end all my sympathies were with Prince Charles and the Queen. There's already a thread about it in films - mixed opinions, small number of people loved it.
Thankfully I have a cineworld card so I didn't pay for it Grin.
