I need new friends!

I have a lovely friend who I’ve known for many years. Unfortunately, at the beginning of our friendship, I failed to realise that the reason she is about 3 stone lighter than me is because she eats about 3 times less than I do.

Whenever we go out together, we invariably share a sandwich or some sort of main course between us. Fine, I can deal with this.

Things get a bit more tricky when it comes to sharing cake. I love my cake but, eager to not reveal myself as the greedy cake lover I am, I can share cake (and then go home and eat more).

But things hit a new low today. Three of us met for coffee and cake. Long-standing friend suggested sharing one piece of cake between the three of us, other friend seemed to think this was a great idea, and all I could do was agree Shock

One piece between three of us! Traumatised. And hungry.

Cake Here you go. You do indeed need better cake friends. Smile
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/11/2021 21:11

Erm...just say, ' No, I want my own piece' and buy it. I know you're being lighthearted, but it really isn't up to your friend to police your cake desires, and you don't have to play her games.

This is weird. Sharing mains and one piece cake for 3 adults?! Really odd.

Buy your own or you will fade away.

Siriisatwat · 17/11/2021 21:29

I had a friend like that once. She always wanted to bloody share.

I don’t share. Im greedy and I don’t do other people’s germs digging into the same food.

I always just said no, i’m getting my own.

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2021 21:31

Im greedy and I don’t do other people’s germs digging into the same food.

That’s not how I would share with a friend. Cut whatever it is in half. Eat own half. No sharing germs.

I would want my own piece of cake.

NotExactlyOptimistic · 17/11/2021 21:34

Is she just a tight arse?

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2021 21:34

Sharing a main course one between two/three is weird. The only time I’ve done this is when me and a friend have shared a pizza and main course salad half each (or other equivalent swap) so a full main course overall.

AnaViaSalamanca · 17/11/2021 21:37

You’re not greedy OP. Your friend is the one with issues around food. I had a friend like this. Size 00 (in US). Obsessed with food. Always trying to share a dish between us or get an appetizer as a main course. Marveling at my portion sizes “are you going to eat ALL of that”?

She was a good friend but I stopped eating around her. Food shaming is a thing 😂

MichelleScarn · 17/11/2021 21:39

Is there the MN competitive undereating going on? One meal between 3?! Does the restaurant/cafe even stand for that?!

PurpleDaisies · 17/11/2021 21:41

Is there the MN competitive undereating going on?

No. It would have been a massive salad if so.

Wendyer · 17/11/2021 21:51

I have no issue with germs, will happily share all of mine! She’s not tight, no. I just think she’s genuinely one of those people who doesn’t/can’t eat much. And I do get that. But sharing one piece of cake between three of us did seem a bit extreme. I felt a bit embarrassed that we were asking for just one bit but, fair play, the cafe didn’t seem to mind.

SallySkelington · 17/11/2021 21:54

Fuck that! I'd order two and eat them both to make a point!!

Bearsbearsbears40 · 17/11/2021 21:56

I think I’d say that “in these COVID times it’s probably better to have our own pieces of cake” - just to minimise transfer of germs, you know… Grin Cake

Oblomov21 · 17/11/2021 22:00

Eh? Why is this a problem? Just say no, and order your own cake.

My fiend always wanted to order one meal/pudding with two spoons to just dig into.

Even the thought of that made me want to run away screaming.

AlphabetStew · 18/11/2021 07:32

A fiend indeed @siriisatwat !

Ha! What a slip Grin
BiscuitLover09876 · 18/11/2021 08:15

I would just tell them I'm a greedy guts and don't want to share Grin

BiscuitLover09876 · 18/11/2021 08:16

And have a massive salad later because I'm a pig 🐖

MrsBrownsHat · 18/11/2021 08:18

I have a friend a bit like this. She is known to take on projects among her friends, and will police their eating if she thinks they are overweight. I love her to bits but it is extremely irritating.
