Please help with London restaurant recommendations

I am taking a good friend out for lunch in a few weeks to celebrate her 50th birthday. I would be really grateful for some suggestions for London restaurants with decent vegetarian options. Thank you!

Delaunay!

Try six by nico - they do a 6 course tasting menu that they change every 6 weeks with a vegetarian menu too.

Ohgodwotnow · 15/11/2021 00:26

London is enormous. Whereabouts? Budget? Vibe?

There's around 15,500 restaurants in London, could you help narrow it down by giving a location, price range etc.?

KatherineJaneway · 15/11/2021 06:04

Happy to give recommendations but would need to know a price range including tip and other factors such as location preferences etc.

Crispyduckandpancakes · 15/11/2021 06:38

Thanks everyone.

I am ideally looking for central, say Covent Garden, Soho, Fitzrovia etc. Somewhere with a good vibe, not a chain, a bit special, but not OTT. I am looking to spend up to £100 per head, including wine. The original Ivy is definitely on the shortlist, but I was wondering if you MN gourmets had any other suggestions.

I looked at Rules, but it already seems to be virtually completely booked up! Also, they don't publish the vegetarian menu, although I am assuming it is good!

I like all cuisines but my friend is vegetarian. I don't want to go to a wholly vegetarian restaurant.

I wouldn't choose Rules for a vegetarian friend!

My sister (London, proper foodie) would probably say Barrafina.

Crispyduckandpancakes · 15/11/2021 06:52

I agree that the Rules main menu looks like a feast for carnivores, but am assuming that the vegetarian menu is good, as several posters have recommended it. I like Barrafina, but I have only visited the Kings Cross one, which has good food, but a bit of a chain vibe, if that makes sense.

Gunpowder (fab Indian- lots of vegetarian options) has just opened a branch in Soho

Doomscrolling · 15/11/2021 06:58

Dishoom and Bocco di Lupa are both great

Crispyduckandpancakes · 15/11/2021 07:42

Great thanks. My friend is Indian and I know she likes Dishoom (as do I!). Gunpowder also sounds interesting although I am having difficulty in finding a menu on their website!

Cinnamon Club is nice

DedalusBloom · 15/11/2021 07:54

Try The Gate or Gauthier for incredible veg/ vegan options.

Justcannotbearsed · 15/11/2021 07:56

Ottolenghi Nopi. Fab vegetarian and good meat selection.

SnowfallSnowball · 15/11/2021 07:57

Quaglino’s in Mayfair is fab, fantastic service and the food is great. I’ve always had a lovely time when I’ve been.

bert3400 · 15/11/2021 08:00

We went to the Duck & Rice in Soho, this weekend for a big birthday bash...its a fantastic restaurant with a brilliant atmosphere. Some of the best Chinese food I've had . Not posh but we loved it

rookiemere · 15/11/2021 08:05

Ok this is nowhere near as fancy as some of the other suggestions, but the inside is way nicer than the picture would suggest, the service from the owner is excellent and the food is amazing- loads of choice for a vegetarian as well chamisse.com/. It's in Bloomsbury I think.

I'm in holiday in London and we went for lunch yesterday to Skylon which is an expensive upmarket restaurant at the South Bank and it was nowhere near as good as Chamisse had been the day before.

Crispyduckandpancakes · 15/11/2021 12:21

Thank you so much, I will check these out!
