As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.

@VladmirsPoutine

They could do more but then what's the point in being royal. If I were royal you couldn't get me out of bed for anything less than presenting me with a shiny new diamond. I'd even order a sausage McMuffin after 11am because I could!
Then abolish them and they can do what they want.

It never fails to astound me how short sighted people can be. Yes, money, servants, live in lovely palaces etc but really?! How can that be all you see when looking at the situation the royals are in? Your life played out to public scrutiny, people commenting on every aspect of your life, body, hair, speculating about every move you make. Having to parade your children, press at the first day at school, other parents asked for comments on you/ your children. Your children's behaviour scrutinised constantly, no toddler tantrums allowed! Having to have security constantly, your kids too. Your teenagers can't, say, enjoy a bit of skateboarding so piss off down the South Bank for a skate and an underage can or two. You can't just pop into Hyde Park to feed the ducks and let the kids run about with all the others on a Sunday afternoon. People constantly speculating and making up crazy shit on everything you do. All that and not even an attention seeking fame hungry celebrity type, you were just born into it! If Charles or William were gay, do you think they could have been gay? I wouldn't swap places for all the palaces, servants and money in the world.
@PickupaPenguin8 I'm sure she loves him. If a Prince asked me to marry him I'd be screaming yes before he'd even had a chance to get down on one knee!! A life so filled with luxury and money and all I have to do is shake a few hands and smile every so often! Where do I sign!
Really? I’d be running in the opposite direction! Camilla’s in her 70s and spending her time opening community centres and having to meet the likes of Donald Trump? No thanks.

julieca · 14/11/2021 22:16

Princess Diana and Sarah did not have security constantly. They famously dressed up in disguise, slipped their security and went out on the town.

That was before people could take pictures on their phones and tweet them though.

Although I did actually see Kate plus all three kids (plus her parents) at a local family petting farm/playground attraction place. We live near-ish to where her parents live so I assume she was visiting. There were two guys who I assume were security but the kids were running around with all the other children there, and no one seemed to bother her.

julieca · 14/11/2021 22:29

@SickAndTiredAgain and yes Catherine when she visited the Sarah Everard vigil had discrete security, but passerbyes didn't clock her at all.

Aw poor little royals. Nope. No sympathy for them whatsoever.

I don’t really have sympathy for them (in some areas I do, mainly around the children). I just absolutely would not want to be one of them, for many of the reasons Barbiesarm says.

Me neither. It’s selling your soul to the devil.

“but the queen passing will not affect any aspect of my life. I wouldn't even say I'm nonchalant about it, it's just of no relevance to my life whatsoever.” @makelovenotpetrol

But relevant enough to your life to click on the thread, read find posts and comment on it!! Grin

Roussette · 14/11/2021 22:41

I would rather plant 1,000 cockroach eggs in my earhole than marry in to the royal family. Grin
It would be hell on earth for me, I like being me and I couldn't be me in that family

I love the Queen and will be sad when she dies, but let’s face it at 95 she’s done incredibly well. Charles will probably only get a short stint at king, his life has been dictated by this, so he can have the throne and crown for a bit.

William & Kate I think will modernise our monarchy similar to the Scandinavian countries, but I hope their kids get to grow up a few years first, would be a tough gig with 3 little ones.

SickAndTiredAgain · 14/11/2021 22:49

This is the same for anyone famous. Lots of people still want to be famous.

Yes, but plenty don’t for this very reason, me included.
A lot of the reasons I wouldn’t want to be a royal also apply to other famous people, that doesn’t make it any less hideous-sounding.

buffyajp · 14/11/2021 22:58

Says far more about you as a person tbh. Can’t even have the decency to ignore the thread.

Barbiesarm · 14/11/2021 23:00

I haven't heard about Prince Charles to be honest, but if he were, could he openly be so? Especially as he'll be the top of the Church of England, as will Prince William.

Barbiesarm · 14/11/2021 23:03

Makelove why no sympathy for them? Who have been literally born into the privilege but also scrutiny? If you had been born into Charles or William's position what would you have done?

Whyamistilltired · 14/11/2021 23:08

Peaseblossum22

My first big Royal event that I remember was also Princess Anne's wedding to Cpt Mark Philips in 1974! Friends had a colour telly so the whole estate went around to their house to watch. There were lovely stamps too, I had a bit of a crush on Princess Ann, would have been 9 years old. I remember someone tried to kidnap her in the '70's too, bet she just told them to bog off!
