As she has apparently sprained her back.

I do wish the Palace would be honest about her health (without giving details) rather than setting her up to attend events that they know she won't be at. It can't be good for her, they should just say she's out for a while, which at her age would be completely understandable.
@LadyZoom it may be because her daily tipples put her at risk of falls.
What with maids and ladies in waiting, surely she doesn't need to go anywhere unaccompanied apart from the loo?

Apologies if that sounds disrespectful, but there are ways around it I am sure. But then again she may just obey the docs anyway. I wouldn't at that age, I might pretend to, but I'd have the gin salted away somewhere handy! Queen Ma was fond of the drink and lived until 101 or near enough. She used two sticks also and drank with gusto, good on her.

Hospedia · 14/11/2021 20:39

In any other job she would have been sacked for being so work shy.

Google tells me that in 2019, William did 220 engagements and Kate did 126 - that covers official visits, opening ceremonies, sports, concerts and charity events, receptions, lunches, dinners and banquets, investitures, meetings and audiences. So roughly two per week for Kate and 4 a week for William, plus whatever travelling time or overnight stays were necessary. They'll have had some involvement in the planning process for these, selecting wardrobe, preparation work such as background briefings, etc. On top of that they have their charity work, they have a foundation as well as various charities and causes. Having run a playgroup charity I can confirm it is a lot of work and that was only small, there is always something to do, letters to write, forms to put your name to, reports to review, and so on. There'll be staff both at the charity and within their office to assist but there will still be some work they have to do themselves as part of their patron role. Then on top of all that, their lives aren't their own. They're under constant scrutiny by people who think they have a right to information about every aspect of their lives, trotted out onto hospital steps hours after giving birth so the public can have a gander, they can't even be ill without people acting like the women who used to sit and knit beside the gallows at public executions.

The Queen has made it known that the best time of her life was the early days of her marriage, living in Malta, before duty took over.

Charles has made it clear that his emotional well-being was negatively affected by his parents being absent on Royal duties and him being consequently sent off to boarding school which, although it may have been OK for someone of a different temperament, was disastrous for him.

Charles has tried to protect his own sons, and made sure William and Catherine are at home to be Mum and Dad for their own children as much as possible. He had to meet his Mum after a tour and shake her hand for goodness' sake!

PriamFarrl · 14/11/2021 20:47
@SunshineCake1 Catherines kids are at school or nursery and she has a nanny and other staff. She could spend every waking moment with them and still work part-time.
She is going to be one of those mums who will claim she still has to a SAHM when her youngest is 15 years old.
So what if she’s a SAHM?

There’s not many people who would work if they didn’t have to.

Hospedia · 14/11/2021 20:49

I think the Firm let's K and W take a backseat for now so that they have as long as possible being "normal" (or the Royal Family version of normal) and can concentrate on being a family hence living in Norfolk, doing light duties in comparison to the others, etc. One the Queen goes, Charles takes over, and William becomes the heir apparent then I think they'd be expected to step up more.

Roussette · 14/11/2021 20:50

Hospedia Are you sure those numbers don't include zoom calls and telephone calls?
A day can consist of one phone call.

And having been involved with a Charity for ten years, you can bet that all the prep work is done for them. They won't be waiting on figures from another member of the charity and having a panic you won't get them in time, standing at the photocopier getting reports prepared until your back is aching, back to back meetings and not having time to hardly go to the loo, standing up in front of a hundred people with a presentation they were up till midnight preparing
And so on...
The hard work will have been done for them, their clothes will be prepared for them, the children will have been taken off their hands, their meals prepared ready for them etc.

Hospedia · 14/11/2021 20:51

Those figures were for 2019 so didn't include Zoom as it was pre-pandemic, the article listed what it included.

Roussette · 14/11/2021 20:52

So those figures weren't 'telephone meetings' as they like to list on the Court Circular?

VladmirsPoutine · 14/11/2021 20:53

@PickupaPenguin8 I'm sure she loves him. If a Prince asked me to marry him I'd be screaming yes before he'd even had a chance to get down on one knee!! A life so filled with luxury and money and all I have to do is shake a few hands and smile every so often! Where do I sign!

Well said!!

That’s the problem. You’re envious and underestimate massively what they do and the strain they live under. Money and servants do not compensate. At all.

I’m sure also this is more or less exactly what Meghan thought. Look where that got her.

PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 21:08

Also.. Meghan and Harry are not being accused of being work shy. They sit in a mansion doing nothing at all but playing with their chickens and making the odd zoom call. No one complains about that or wonders why Meghan is lecturing other people on how to live or phoning politicians to demand paid maternity leave .Even when she was a ‘working Royal’ she spent most of her time on leave of one sort or another. Yes, I know we aren’t paying for them, but their living, such as it is, is made off the back of their Royal associations and titles. Apparently that’s fine though.

VladmirsPoutine · 14/11/2021 21:09

Look where that got her.

She got her lovely Prince and moved her family away from the UK's very despicable and racist press. I'd say she did alright. I agree she didn't know what she was getting into given that she's coming from a very different background but I'd hazard a guess that her mental health must have drastically improved since.

julieca · 14/11/2021 21:11

@LadyZoom as people get very elderly and become more unsteady on their feet, alcohol in even small amounts can tip this over to a fall. Someone can fall in front of you within metres.
I don't even mean she has had a fall although the chipped tooth seems to point to that. But simply it is an easy risk factor to eliminate.

PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 21:12

I don’t see why it’s important that she married a Prince. She could have married another man without all the baggage and hassle. She wanted the kudos of being a Royal and the money that went with it. Pretty shallow really.

Roussette · 14/11/2021 21:13

Will this criticism never stop? There is too much wrong with this post for me to even begin....

How do you know what they are doing in the US? How?? You don't.

Meghan worked hard when she was still part of the RF over here, including a tour with Harry when she was pregnant.

You sound very very bitter about her.

Totally agree. What a good move they made.

They include phone calls. And nice things like the cup final or tennis final. I read the court circulars. William and Catherine do very little. I still find it shocking that their 95-year-old grandmother until the last month, did far more than either of them. And they can do daily engagements. No one is saying they should be sent away for month-long tours. TBH they could do more engagements and still fit them in school and nursery hours.
Roussette · 14/11/2021 21:16

Totally agree. And I read that the Queen did more engagements than both of them put together.
They got long long holidays... nearly 8 weeks at Balmoral. When the DCs are at school, they could both be doing something.

I'd agree with that.

She did go up to St Andrews to bag him after all. And wasn't called Waity Katie for nothing. Prepared to sit it out for years.

I expect she's very pragmatic about everything, quietly knowing she'll be Queen within a couple of decades or so.

VladmirsPoutine · 14/11/2021 21:17

They could do more but then what's the point in being royal. If I were royal you couldn't get me out of bed for anything less than presenting me with a shiny new diamond. I'd even order a sausage McMuffin after 11am because I could!

makelovenotpetrol · 14/11/2021 21:17
@JudgeRindersMinder - I agree, it will be a terrible shock for the country when she does go, even if some people pretend to be quite nonchalant about it. It will be Diana all over again X 10, I think.
I don't wish anyone ill and certainly I don't wish them dead, but the queen passing will not affect any aspect of my life. I wouldn't even say I'm nonchalant about it, it's just of no relevance to my life whatsoever. Why do you think people can't be nonchalant / not bothered about it?

HarrisonStickle · 14/11/2021 21:19

Ooops, see you meant Meghan. Just imagine I replied to a comment about Kate!

PickupaPenguin8 · 14/11/2021 21:20

@HarrisonStickle
Another supremely spiteful post. How do you know exactly what was in Kate’s mind?
