Hi, admitting upfront that I may have slight PFB syndrome, I have one child and her grandmother(dads dad) is always saying she's 'forward'. I think she's comparing to her older cousins but obviously if this is true there are possibly things I could be doing to further encourage her, yesterday she wrote her name out with me telling her each letter of the name as it's quite long, but she wrote all the letters down clearly. She turned four in august so youngest in her year, would this seem 'forward' to anyone else or just average?

There are maybe 4 or 5 children in my class (4 - 5yrs) who can write their name. A couple of those write it all in capital letters, so have had to re-learn it with all but the initial letter in lowercase.

The others just aren't at that stage in their development yet. It doesn't mean that they are any less 'bright' than those who can already write. It just means that they need more time and opportunities to develop their fine motor skills.

I remember when my sister (summer born) started school in the early nineties she was expected to be able to write her name and count to 20.
