If OH is out for the night, do you expect to hear from them?

DH is out for drinks with a former work colleague and I haven't a clue when he'll be back. It doesn't really matter but it's set me wondering. If your OH is out, do they text during the evening or let you know when they'll be home/set off back?

I grew up with parents who always liked to know that I'd arrived safely somewhere so I'm in the habit or preempting that by texting e.g. 'likely to be out until 10pm' early on during an evening followed by 'on the train, back at 10.15' once I'm heading home.

I guess I'm also not used to this... we have two young DC so nights out are a rarity plus he's only just gone back into the office and I'm finding it odd to have had zero contact. But as I said, it doesn't matter, as long as he's home by the morning!!

If he's staying away overnight, I don't expect to hear from him, but I do appreciate a text to let me know he's back to his hotel room (or whatever) safely.

My husband will usually text me once just to see how me/the kids are, the next time is normally to see if I want a kebab

It can be hours and hours though, I used to be really anxious and would be awake all night until he came home (not just with him) but I've managed to calm that down now.

No - why would I want him to give his time with friends up! All time with friends is well deserved with two young kids, and if out with colleagues then it's obviously for a purpose - ie networking. He will let me know when he arrives / where he is and then let's me know when he's getting on the train home. If I called or messaged him he would look and reply though but I leave him to it.

If dh is ever out, I wouldn't hear from him unless it is to let me know if he will be back before/after 7pm regarding saying goodnight to the boys.

I only text dh if I'm going to be exceptionally late
