Anyway...anyone know of any boxes of coloured tissues??

Dd1 played a song that made me cry a bit & she passed me a tissue & I commented that I was sure you used to be able to get coloured tissues.

Yes, I remember them too, although I haven't noticed them on sale for a long time. I think they were in layers of 4 or 5 colours and it was exciting to my childhood self to guess which colour would pop up next. Simple pleasures. 😁

lucysmam · 12/11/2021 18:25

I'm glad I didn't imagine them; I sort of half doubted myself! I wonder if you can get them still 🤔

Yes! My gran always had those. Not seen them in a couple of decades at least though.

I remember those from my childhood, 5 or so pastel coloured tissues, were they called Scotties

lucysmam · 12/11/2021 18:51

Oh, that's disappointing @Sofia82. I was sure MN-ers would be able to tell me where to get some to show dd!

Yes! My Nanna used to get boxes with rainbow pastel colours and shades of pink and lilac. I remember being stuck in bed with measles or something and making paper flowers with them, separating the layers, cutting them in half longways, concertina pleats and securing with fuse wire.

CactusFlowers · 12/11/2021 19:18

Renova still sell coloured ones. www.myrenova.com/us/en/products/tissues/facialTissues/?sz=48&start=0

BettyfromBristol · 12/11/2021 19:19

Oooh, I used to make flowers too. You can't buy coloured toilet rolls any more either. White is better for the environment but I miss my auntie's pink rolls. We used to have pale yellow but small me always hankered after pink. One year I got a pink roll in my stocking though, possibly my best present that year!

Theunamedcat · 12/11/2021 19:25

I used to love blue toilet roll or peach

Life used to have more colour 🤣

Helpimfalling · 12/11/2021 19:26

Ohhh the lovely pastel colours!

Aww I feel all nostalgic

ShowOfHands · 12/11/2021 19:29

My mum once covered a dress and umbrella with hundreds and hundreds of them (attached by the corner so they fluttered about) and I went to a fancy dress party as Little Miss Atishoo. They were all colours. I must try and find a photo.

Bloatstoat · 12/11/2021 19:32

I remember coloured tissues too - they must have been a nanna thing as it was my nanna who had them as well. And I'm sure she had multicoloured cotton wool balls too.

Yes!! How did all these things disappear without us noticing?

I'd love to see a pic of Little Miss Atishoo Grin

impressivelycunty · 12/11/2021 20:02

Yes! I remember having a horrendous nosebleed at school and while my life blood was slipping away and I did a passable impression of Carrie, I begged for a tissue and my friend asked what colour tissue I wanted...

FinallyHere · 12/11/2021 20:06

My first environmentally aware school project in my early days of secondary school, 1971, made me understand how much worse for the environment coloured tissue is compared to white.

I then went on to try and get people to sign up to only using white loo roll.

It was not even so commonly available. Lots of people said they 'had' to buy the colour that 'matched' the titles or sanitary ware in their bathrooms.

Some things have improved.

lucysmam · 12/11/2021 20:25

I'd love to see Little Miss Atishoo, too! She sounds brilliant.

I wasn't aware that coloured tissue is not good for the environment. Maybe we'll stick to the white ones then & I'll show her on Google.

True, but not really in the spirit of the thread is it 🙄 Can anyone remember the colours? Pink, pale blue and purple possibly? @ShowOfHands dig that photo out now Grin
lucysmam · 12/11/2021 21:10

I thought there was a pale greeny colour too.

Someone upthread mentioned coloured cotton balls too - I have a very old box of resources in my Rainbows and Guides cupboard & there are some of those, and a roll of cotton wool in there. It makes me smile every time I open that box (but we don't use any of it; I'm quite protective of that box and its contents!)

TheChosenTwo · 12/11/2021 21:34

Was going to suggest Renova too. I went to a toilet in Lisbon (cost €2! Promised to be the world’s sexiest toilet!) and there was a wall of all the different coloured toilet papers for you to choose before you went into the cubicle Grin
Always fancied getting myself some black loo roll for some reason although I’ve never actually bought any!

Ooh we had pink loo rolls to match the pink bathroom!

Always wanted coloured tissues we only had them occasionally but my nan had them and the cotton wool balls.

LuluBlakey1 · 12/11/2021 22:43

I am sure you could get 3 shades ones in boxes- so you had pastel pink, white and pale pink, white, pale blue and pastel blue, white pale peach and pastel peach. I remember people matching them to their rooms. My mam had a peachy colour box in our sitting room and a green box in the bathroom.

TokyoSushi · 12/11/2021 22:48

Yes! We used to have these when I grew up in the 80's!

mrslimpet · 12/11/2021 22:53

Think they might have been Kleenex Boutique ???
