Just received the email and can’t believe another year has come around again so quickly. At first glance it is looking tough!

Need to settle down with a cup of tea and get started.

Anyone else attempting (and happy to share clues?! Wink )

OP posts:

How are the cyclists not Bonjour Tristesse!? Doing my head in.

ChessieFL · 14/11/2021 06:42

mowly the French cyclists are also a very famous French-themed musical as well as a book.

mowly77 · 14/11/2021 06:46

Thank you @ChessieFL ! I got fixated … done! But only thanks to this thread. I consider myself an avid reader with her finger on the pulse but hadn’t heard of a fair few of these

CaptainMyCaptain · 14/11/2021 07:39

@drspouse

Nearly there - stuck on the black and white circus tent and the one with the man looking at the painting because the one word title with that Stephen as the main character isn't working.
Have you Googled the name of the gallery to find the book with that name in it?
drspouse · 14/11/2021 07:58

I have, Captain but only came up with the one word book, though I will look further after the clue above, I didn't know about the other book.

drspouse · 14/11/2021 08:01

Done!

Smeets · 14/11/2021 12:33

Just stuck on La casa! Thank you for all of the clues so far ☺️

What type of alcoholic drinks are in the windows? And what would the sign say in English? If you Google both with "book" you should get there
Smeets · 14/11/2021 13:12

Thank you! I Googled Latin American novel too x

crispsinasandwich · 14/11/2021 15:00

@senua

crispsinasandwich: "it's one if my favourite books which is why I was shocked it didn't work - I thought there must have been another book that I had missed" Ah, technical failure, not never-heard-of. Phew. I was inwardly muttering about the youth of today and the decline of civilisation. Grin

Dgmac I have no idea about the vintage shop
Google the proprietor's name

Love being called "the youth of today" - I'm 54 - you made my day Smile
MatildaJayne · 15/11/2021 00:44

Just want to put caboodle in the thread because this didn’t come up on my advanced search. Thanks all! Would never have got the stop sign without the film clue. (Plus a few others.)

LavenderAskew · 16/11/2021 20:37

Feel like I'm going insane. I've 19, but can't find the 20th one in the picture.

Not the pesky nun either, finally found her.

It’s not THINGS, is it? Having 2 in the gallery is a bit confusing.
LavenderAskew · 17/11/2021 07:11

Oh thank you!!

Would not have found that on my own

(I also realised that it's asked a few posts up now too, now I've read the thread probably. I'd scanned it looking for words of objects I was scratching my head about, so wasn't picking up on "things").

Must say there was a lot of books I'd nev e heard of (including "things" one) and only got from either "say what you see" or putting in a word I thought might be associated with the image into goodreads.

The man with the stop sigb, only got because of a clue National Book Tokens put out. Don't think I'd have got it any other way despite knowing the book, having read it and one of my son's just read it for his English exam.

Doomscrolling · 17/11/2021 10:40

The nun... there are a zillion bloody books about looking for a sister, a lost sister, a missing one, it's doing my head in

Doomscrolling · 17/11/2021 10:46

DAMN! Finally got it by sheer luck. never heard of the series.

TadpoleReader · 17/11/2021 11:32

Wow! I just got my last two (Paradise & Dedalus Gallery) in 10 minutes - after struggling for days using Google search I tried my county library database - I'll use that first in future!

sleepybuthappy · 20/11/2021 21:23

Please help with the natural history Centre clue! I've got 19 and I can't sleep until I get it...

Book that came out earlier this year. Something you write in daily. Think about who is writing and what the topic is.

I have 2 that I still can't get:

  • balloon man (tried so many combinations of old man sea)
  • book shop
MatildaJayne · 20/11/2021 21:52

Try one more combination of old man and sea. Think classic 20th century US author, Spent time in Spain, liked his alcohol.

MorbidMuch · 20/11/2021 21:53

Phew. Finally done. I am sure I tried that balloon one before and it said it was wrong Hmm

Thank you all for the hints and tips. I've never managed to complete one of these before!

ClaraSais · 20/11/2021 21:57

I’ve just discovered this and doing very badly I may add! Smile

You're just missing two definate articles and a coordinating conjunction.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/11/2021 22:03

I'm placemaking to come back tomorrow and see if I can get any clues. I think I have 8 so far.

ClaraSais · 20/11/2021 22:51

And why does everyone keep mentioning a nun I can’t find her lol
