National Book tokens 2021 - anyone started?

Just received the email and can’t believe another year has come around again so quickly. At first glance it is looking tough!

Need to settle down with a cup of tea and get started.

Anyone else attempting (and happy to share clues?! Wink )

@TattiePants, thank you so much. Now I can sleep tonight

WhistlersandJugglers · 11/11/2021 22:55

Google Dedalus in literature, not a book you'd read for light entertainment.

narrucO1 · 11/11/2021 22:58

The Dedalus gallery is a classic from 1916 it it is all about what the old man is looking at.

The police box is about what the Tardis is.

PenguinLost · 11/11/2021 23:05

Wohoo! Thanks so much. I'd gone off on completely the wrong tangent on both of them Blush. So pleased to have finished!

Ealaigh · 12/11/2021 00:45

I’ve got them all except the babies in a puddle? Any hints?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/11/2021 00:51

What is the puddle made of?

Ealaigh · 12/11/2021 00:57

Of course! Thank you!

emsmum79 · 12/11/2021 07:33

@EineReiseDurchDieZeit,

petrol? I'm stumped too!

narrucO1 · 12/11/2021 07:47

I was mislead by the colour of the puddle too but it's made of what puddles are usually made of. The book is a very old fairy tale and the children are younger than toddlers.

Trumpton · 12/11/2021 08:06

Boom! Done !

StickChildNumberTwo · 12/11/2021 11:01

Thanks for all the hints - I'm now just stuck on the balloon one (even with the hints). I suspect I'm just being dense, anyone got any more clues?

BestIsWest · 12/11/2021 11:04

Say the letter out loud. What does it sound like? It’s a classic.

StickChildNumberTwo · 12/11/2021 11:32

Thank you! I'd been fixated on turning the letter into a number....

ElftonWednesday · 12/11/2021 12:11

Any more clues for the C balloon?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/11/2021 12:12

Is the sound C makes just a letter?

RockaLock · 12/11/2021 12:13

The c balloon stands for a word that sounds like c.

Then think about the age of the man holding the balloon.

ElftonWednesday · 12/11/2021 12:16

Ah! Thanks.

ElftonWednesday · 12/11/2021 12:34

Thanks, all.

ChessieFL · 12/11/2021 13:53

I’ve got them all except the Tardis. Clues on this thread haven’t helped!

BestIsWest · 12/11/2021 13:55

What does the Tardis travel through?

ElftonWednesday · 12/11/2021 13:57

Might help if you google what Tardis stands for and what it does/is.

ChessieFL · 12/11/2021 14:31

I know what Tardis stands for (DH is a massive Dr Who fan) and have tried lots of different combinations of those words. Have also tried googling them and still not coming up with anything!

lizbet78 · 12/11/2021 14:31

Thank you to all the hinters! It's very good of you all to share your knowledge. I'd never have completed the quiz without you :-)

senua · 12/11/2021 14:36

Clue. It's an old book. Not of our ... what's the word ... era.
lizbet78 · 12/11/2021 14:38

The hardest in some ways was the French couple on the tandem. They look so much like the two from Escape to the Chateau that I couldn’t see past that until a very kind contributor showed the way.
