Just received the email and can’t believe another year has come around again so quickly. At first glance it is looking tough!

Need to settle down with a cup of tea and get started.

Anyone else attempting (and happy to share clues?! Wink )

Morlocks to it!

ElftonWednesday · 12/11/2021 14:40

The superfluous bicycle threw me. It revealed that I knew of several books about sadness and France before I got to the actual answer.

ChessieFL · 12/11/2021 14:42

Thanks senua (and others) but I’m still none the wiser. I’m sure it will be really obvious when I finally get it but driving me mad at the moment!

123ZYX · 12/11/2021 14:42

@ChessieFL

I know what Tardis stands for (DH is a massive Dr Who fan) and have tried lots of different combinations of those words. Have also tried googling them and still not coming up with anything!
It's a device for travelling through space - but also through something else.
ChessieFL · 12/11/2021 14:43

Ironically I got Paradise Boulevarde almost immediately and that seems to be one that lots of others struggled with!

It didn't help that the clue was in Section VI of the thesaurus but the answer was in Section IV. Roget thinks that it's not a good match as a synonym!
Also doesn't help that I'd never heard of the book! Blush

ChessieFL · 12/11/2021 15:02

I had to google the Tardis answer in the end, never heard of it!

for me the annoying thing was there is a book called on eden street and this wasn't it! Grin

but i do like the book it actually is

of the original book?
ChessieFL · 12/11/2021 16:37

Yes the original book Tinytear.

crispsinasandwich · 12/11/2021 16:40

The Manderlay one? Anyone?

ElftonWednesday · 12/11/2021 16:44

Almost certainly if you Google Manderlay it will give you the answer. If you don't get it from that word, you don't know the book.

Honestly I have put that in so many times and it said it was wrong - accepted it now.

I finished - thanks to A LOT of help from this thread - thank you all

JaninaDuszejko · 12/11/2021 17:55

Got 10 this year without clues so much better than last year. Bit of facepalm when I realised what the people on the bike were!

senua · 12/11/2021 18:56

@crispsinasandwich

The Manderlay one? Anyone?
I presume that you've never read it - please do, it's a fabulous book.
GiantKitten · 12/11/2021 19:34

@crispsinasandwich
Manderley was the first one I got BUT when I typed it in initially it was rejected for me too.
After a few tries I realised I hadn’t clicked on the right part of the big picture, and had been guessing against a different book altogether Confused

Deadringer · 12/11/2021 19:37

Finished at last! I would never have done it without this thread, thanks guys. That bloody stop sign though! Grrrrr.

CaptainMyCaptain · 12/11/2021 19:41

Manderley was the first one that jumped out at me too. The first line of the book instantly sprang to mind.

emsmum79 · 13/11/2021 00:03

Any clues for the caramel shop? It's my last one and I'm stuck!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/11/2021 00:07

How do you make caramel? What if you messed up?

Maybe I did the same - anyway it worked eventually

crispsinasandwich · 13/11/2021 02:40

Senua- it's one if my favourite books which is why I was shocked it didn't work - I thought there must have been another book that I had missed

Crankley · 13/11/2021 08:49

I've managed to find 19/20 and am stuck on the bookshop. Was ready to give up when I saw this thread.

I've read the clues given for it so far but just can't get it. If anyone can give me a further clue I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
