Oodie (or similar) or heated throw?

Bloatstoat · 08/11/2021 20:40

DH is still working from home a lot and the room he's in gets really chilly. We do have an electric heater, but obviously trying not to sue it as much as possible. I was thinking of getting him something to wear that might help, he's already in lots of layers.

People who have an oodie or similar, does it keep you warm all over and does it really make a difference or is it just a big thick jumper, as he's already got loads of those. Are heated throws any good? Which should I get?

I'd love to hear any experiences or recommendations, thanks in advance.

This thread is old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for advice on keeping warm this winter, we’ve recently updated our best heated throw and best blanket hoodie pages with loads of toasty, cost-effective buys Mumsnetters love. We hope it’s helpful.

Sue = use , sadly we cannot sue the heater because of our electric bill!

I have a heated throw which makes a big difference. I also prefer it to big jumpers etc as I can jump on a teams call and still look professional because it’s not visible on camera.

WisestIsShe · 08/11/2021 20:50

Another vote for a heated throw, I love mine

SleepWoof · 08/11/2021 20:54

I've recently bought a kuddly - it's enormous but not as thick as I was expecting. It initially felt a bit draughty as it's so wide but I quickly warm up in it and each time I've worn it I've dozed off on the sofa, it's that cozy. I've just bought a couple of oodies for presents as the bogof price was cheaper so I'm interested in how they compare.

Cattitudes · 08/11/2021 20:58

Oodie does keep the top half of me warm and my arms stay warm whilst still being able to move them. I do usually put a blanket over my legs though so can I vote for both? I don't need to be on camera though.

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 08/11/2021 20:59

I have an oodie and it's super cosy... if I'm doing anything more than lazing on the couch in it I overheat instantly.

But, if im la in on the couch in it I usually pull a blanket over my knees too.. so maybe both!

CMOTDibbler · 08/11/2021 20:59

Heated throw. Just having the blanket over my lap/legs makes me loads warmer (as well as wearing substantial slippers as my office floor is really cold) but on the lowest setting the throw makes me toasty and is invisible to video

Figmentofimagination · 08/11/2021 21:06

I have an oodie and it definitely keeps me warm whilst wfh. I'm short though so mine comes to just above my knees.
I will say I do also wear fleecy pj bottoms, thick socks and big boot slippers, as whilst the oodie keeps the majority of me warm, my ankles can get cold.

I have a heated throw and it's one of my favourite things in the entire house, probably my son's as well really.

It's very similar to this one.

CheshireChat · 08/11/2021 21:16

Admittedly, the white side looks a bit tatty.

imfeelinit · 08/11/2021 21:20

I have an Amazon 'oodie' and it keeps the top half of me warm.
I also bought a blanket with sleeves from Amazon which helps keep my whole body warm whilst working.

LadyOfMisrule · 08/11/2021 21:33

Heated throw!

Cherrysoup · 08/11/2021 22:07

Heated throw. One of the best things my dh has ever bought me.

tabulahrasa · 08/11/2021 22:13

My cheap copy oodies are great, but it’s basically like wearing a couple of big jumpers, but comfier and cosier.

The heated throw is much much warmer - it’ll even heat you up when you’ve been out in snow and got all that cold way where it takes forever to warm you up.

I do use both at once though, lol

PlaymobilMania · 08/11/2021 22:14

Heated throw amazing for when seated but no good for walking round the house

Gertie75 · 08/11/2021 22:57

I adore my heated throw and use our most days, even summer evenings.

My first one was about 30 quid off amazon and was a thick fleece material, it only lasted a few months so I then bought a thick, furry one from Dunelm which was just under £100 and it's still going two years later.

To get super toasty I wrap it all around me when I'm standing up then sit down so I'm in a heated cocoon Grin

BashfulClam · 08/11/2021 23:05

I’ve had my heated throw for 2 years it is my favourite thing ever. Just pop it on for 10 minutes and I’m toastie warm.

Bloatstoat · 09/11/2021 08:40

Thanks very much everyone - it sounds like a heated throw is what I need, it's a good point about still being able to have it over legs on work calls! And it sounds good for the sofa in the evening too, v cosy.

I can't see one of these things without laughing about Mary Anne in Tales of the City flogging her Bloodie on daytime telly. It's not considered an achievement.

adagio · 09/11/2021 14:36

Where is best to get a heated throw from? I can see Argos, Lakeland, dunelm all seem to sell them - plus Amazon but I’m nervous they might blow up or something l

Peacocking · 13/11/2021 10:28

Okay...wild card 😁 Buy a battery heated gilet or coat and a spare battery to put on charge while you're using the other. I live in mine when it's cold. The batteries last for hours and your heating travels with you. Loads and loads of options on Amazon and Ebay.

Otherwise, heated throws are bloody awesome. Line the chair or sofa with it, and sit on what is, effectively, a radiator.

Jennalong · 13/11/2021 10:31

Look on the shopping site Ideal World ( sorry don't know how to link ) there were selling one for under £40 and it's lovely.

GinIronic · 13/11/2021 10:39

I’ve got a heated poncho from Lakeland. Much easier to work in.

Lemonsyellow · 13/11/2021 10:52

I have a heated throw. It’s a Dreamland one. It’s fabulous, the best thing in the house, and everyone fights over it. We’ll be getting another one.
