Those of you who are runners... (question about socks)

For secret santa I have to buy for a colleague I don't know well. I know she is very into running. Budget is a tenner so I thought I could get a pair of good running socks. I'd appreciate recommendations for those in the know. Thanks!

1,000 mile running socks would be good and around a tenner.

savemejebus · 06/11/2021 18:51

I swear by Runderwear blister socks, saved my feet! They usually have a sale on, around £12 a pair x

Inthewainscoting · 06/11/2021 19:18

I love Balega socks, super comfy and hardwearing. Not as well known a firm as others as I think they're South African but having randomly got a pair from a running shop years ago I don't wear anything else now.

My favourite brand is Stance - they have all sorts of weird/bright designs. They seem to start at £10:99 on their site, but you can find deals if you browse. I've linked the women's page, but the men's M should fit average size (5/6) too

I wear Feetures. I think Run4it have some on sale just now for about £10.

Flyingbymypants · 06/11/2021 19:26

Balega here. No blisters so far .

Africa2go · 06/11/2021 19:28

Can I suggest you think of something else? Socks are really personal. Sounds daft, I know, but I wear a particular brand (not actually running socks) and just wouldn't wear any others. She might be as picky and it would be a waste of a present. Sorry to be negative.

BuddhaAtSea · 06/11/2021 19:29

Balega for me too!

HettieHelvetica · 06/11/2021 19:38

I like Hilly twin skin and Thorlos Experia, but as PP has me too, running socks are a really personal choice.

BlueMoonAndRedNose · 06/11/2021 19:42

Thank you all for your recommendations.
I do appreciate that running socks are a personal thing, but isn't that better than another bloody set of Baylis and Harding?

Sounds like a great idea, OP! I don't agree that running socks are necessarily that personal. I'm a serious runner and would be delighted with any running socks, definitely better than a random gift set!

SomethingToldTheWildGeese · 06/11/2021 19:48

I think running socks are an excellent idea! And even if it isn't a type she normally uses, it's always good to try different ones!

BTW, I like Injinji....

AuntieStella · 06/11/2021 19:50

Wouid the budget stretch to £12.99

Safety Skin might be an idea?

SomethingToldTheWildGeese · 06/11/2021 19:50

(..... but I also like many, many other types/brands too!!! (Especially merino ones but they're ££!!))

TheMooch · 06/11/2021 19:51

I'd love a pair of running socks. I would be so happy because you are likely to get something I'd not had before - a free try out !!! I always stick to the same because I know they are OK on my feet .

SomethingToldTheWildGeese · 06/11/2021 19:53

Sealskinz is also a great brand of running socks -

Here's a pair for £10

Chesneyhawkes1 · 06/11/2021 20:04

I think it's a great present.

I like Balega or Rockay

PinkStink · 06/11/2021 20:07

I’m a runner and honestly I’d be so pleased.

The other thing could be a buff?

Hygge always seem to have lots of deals on.

For socks I wear injiji, bridgedale, cep and runderwear

pepperminttaste · 06/11/2021 20:17

I'd be delighted! It's so thoughtful.

iloverunningslow · 06/11/2021 21:41

I'm a runner and I'd love that.

delilahbucket · 06/11/2021 22:36

1000 Mile but they need to be the double layer ones for running. I hated Runderwear, I got awful blisters in them.

londonmummy1966 · 06/11/2021 22:48

It's a kind thought but a lot of runners are very picky about their socks. A similar priced and equally useful gift at this time of year would be a pair of running gloves - I like the Ronhill ones that are warm, wicking and light enough to scrunch up and stuff up my sleeve if they get too hot. They are about £12 if that was in budget? They come in black, yellow and pink

CarrotPuff · 06/11/2021 23:06

Hilly socks!

BlueMoonAndRedNose · 07/11/2021 08:03

Oh I like the idea of running gloves also!
I don't mind going a bit over the stipulated budget if it's to buy something decent.
Secret Santa at work usually involves a lot of handsoap + handlotion sets and heavily packaged toiletries from the Boots 3 for 2 range. Just thinking of the waste brings me up in hives!!
