Taylor's and Morrison's own-brand coffee bags. Are they any good ?

I used to buy Lyons' No.4 but the quality has dropped and the price has increased a lot so I'm looking for a better value replacement. I saw these in Morrison's today but I'd like an opinion or two first. Thankyou.

I found Taylor’s coffee bags to be very weak and flavourless, but I haven’t tried the Morrison’s ones.

WildRosie · 06/11/2021 12:38

Thankyou FEG. Morrison's have the Taylor's Lava Java bags which are a number 6 roast. They might suit you. A bit too strong for me, mind.

The Lyons yellow box (morning roast?) is regularly (but not always) in Home Bargains much cheaper than the green or red Lyons boxes are in supermarkets. It’s not as good as my aero press but for the price it’s great when I want the convenience of a bag for eg taking to work or travelling.

I’ve tried Taylor’s and disappointed in them.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 06/11/2021 12:53

I tried Taylor's bags & wasn't impressed. I like the Morrisons own pods, they're true to strength, so I'd say it's worth trying the bags, ditto Aldi.

gukvguk · 06/11/2021 12:54

I bought a box of the Morrison's Italian ones this week to take to work and was quite impressed as they were nice and strong.

WildRosie · 06/11/2021 14:16

Thanks all. Looks like the consensus is to avoid Taylor's.

Sorry to jump on but do you mean like a tea bag for coffee? What’s the point in that? Blush

Calicoqueen · 06/11/2021 14:21

Taylor are just so awful. 😣

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/11/2021 14:22

I’m surprised coffee bags came back, I tried them in the 1980’s and it wasn’t great coffee.

WildRosie · 06/11/2021 14:36

Myma. Yes, exactly that. Just ground coffee in a bag, used exactly as you would a teabag. They're for speed and convenience. Not quite as good as cafetiere coffee but better than instant. Obviously this depends on the quality of the coffee in the bag. I'm surprised to hear that Taylor's aren't that good.

Taylor’s of Harrogate? I use them daily. I love them. The green and orange boxes are my favourite. Think they are 4+5 respectively.

WildRosie · 06/11/2021 21:13

Are there any other decent quality and value coffee bags available ?

I buy NewKingsCoffee online. Found them much better than Lyons or Taylor's which were both too weak.
Perfect for using at work.

Hortonhearsadoctorwho · 06/11/2021 22:58

Sorry to be thick but to be clear it’s nice coffee in bags that are quicker and easier? Not just Nescafé in a tea bag?!

PussInBin20 · 06/11/2021 23:01

I just bought some Taylor’s and I quite liked them although I haven’t tried any of the others.

piefacedClique · 06/11/2021 23:04

I buy the yellow Lyons from home bargains.., I find Taylor’s a bit ‘dusty’. Amazon had lots of other Lyons brands available in bulk…, I like perkadily and rockadero

Yes ‘proper’ coffee in a bag
SirB0bby · 06/11/2021 23:15

I like the Taylor's ones. The green "Rich Italian" ones (no. 4 I think).

TherapistInATabard · 06/11/2021 23:16

DH can only drink decaf and has tried Taylor’s decaf coffee bags for the first time this week, and says it’s lovely.

RobertaFirmino · 06/11/2021 23:42

I love Taylor's Hot Lava java but I leave the bag in for 5 minutes. The suggested 2 minutes is useless. Percol Colombia bags are quite nice too.

Mossstitch · 07/11/2021 00:28

Another yes for the Taylors Italian in the green box, I found the java ones a bit bitter. I use them for convenience at work, I don't like instant coffee. Tried sainsburys own, they were alright but Taylors I thought were better.

KenAdams · 07/11/2021 00:40

Make filter or pour over instead. It will take the same amount of time but taste so much better

I agree, but I'm looking for convenience at work when it's busy and avoiding having to clean a cafetiere or filter jug afterwards.

Instead of a cafetière or whatever, you can have proper coffee in a mug.

I get them because I only want a coffee every three months and they last longer than ground coffee, each bag is individually wrapped.
