If you are veggie, do you have a roast dinner?

We love a roast in our house. I would be happy with just the veg because I love them but DP likes something go go with it.

We normally have nut roast ( the bbc good food recipe) or quorn sausages. The DC are not that keen on nutroast though. What else can we do?

We always have Yorkshire puddings.

I just have veg and Yorkshire for my roast dinner - one if my favourite meals!

At Christmas I do Delia's pecan and mozzarella strudel, which is delicious and reheats well.

Yes, quite often with a bought pie as the replacement for the meat which works well. Toad in the hole is good too.

Toad in the hole using meat free Richmond sausages or a Linda McCartney country pies are favourites in our house but we quite like nut roast sometimes as well.

Cauliflower cheese (yes, it’s more veg)

mnahmnah · 05/11/2021 19:57

I like the Quorn escalopes with mine

RedHot22 · 05/11/2021 20:00

Waitrose also do a nice mushroom and chestnut Wellington that I keep in the freezer.
Or pie, I often make a pie

I love cauliflower cheese. I would do this as a main course too.

We have done toad in the hole but the DC wouldn’t eat it. They love Yorkshire pudding and sausages separately.

A pie is also a lovely idea. We could have leftovers that would last the week.

I think falafel goes well with roast potatoes gravy and veg

PurpleDaisies · 05/11/2021 20:04

As an emergency one time, we had veggie sausage rolls. They were surprisingly good! See also fake steak bakes…

trilbydoll · 05/11/2021 20:06

DH usually has some form of Quorn oven food with a roast. Or quiche, or Asda do some veggie puff pastry things. Basically the end result looks like I forgot about him until the last minute!

TheSpottedZebra · 05/11/2021 20:07

MORE POTATOES.

spangleswereace · 05/11/2021 20:10

I quite like the quorn roast :)

theneverendinglaundry · 05/11/2021 20:12

The Quorn Roast is very good! I would like to try making a but roast too.

BertieBotts · 05/11/2021 20:14

If they don't like toad in the hole, make toad out of the hole. That's what my mum always used to call it because I didn't like the half cooked sausages. Love them now :o

CiaoForDiNiaoSaur · 05/11/2021 20:17

DS likes his with a Linda McCartney pulled pork burger

EileenGC · 05/11/2021 20:18

I don't often have a roast anymore but I love just the Yorkshires, veg and potatoes - lots of potatoes please!

I used to enjoy adding Quorn chicken fillets to a roast though, if I felt like missing the 'meat bit' of it.

Thatsplentyjack · 05/11/2021 20:19

I know someone that used to make theirs with veggie haggis and some sort of vegan gravy. It was fab. Keep meaning to ask what the gravy is.

RedHot22 · 05/11/2021 20:21

Sage and onion stuffing and gravy or sausagemeat stuffing made with veggie sausages

VerbenaGirl · 05/11/2021 20:21

My daughter always has cauliflower cheese, which doubles up as a side for the meat eaters.

emmathedilemma · 05/11/2021 20:34

I’m not veggie but I often have quorn sausages with veg and gravy and Yorkshire puddings. Not quite a roast but cottage pie with quorn mince (controversial but add a tin of baked beans) also works well for that sort of dinner.

flotsomandjetsome · 05/11/2021 20:37

Another vote for the Quorn roast here. It doesn't look pretty unsliced, but once it's on the plate (and covered in gravy) it's absolutely fine for us.

Youcancallmeval · 05/11/2021 20:41

If there's roast potatoes, bread sauce and stuffing, I'm happy, I don't need a centre piece.

SortingItOut · 05/11/2021 20:41

Aldi and Lidl do some great vegetarian pies which are perfect for roast dinner if you can't be faffed with your own pie.

MyAnacondaMight · 05/11/2021 20:45

Veggie sausage rolls are pretty good.
