Most painful tattoo you've ever had?

I was so surprised how painful the calf was, having had wrist and spine tattoos.

What have you been shocked by that you thought wouldn't be too bad?

My foot!! I told them I needed to pop to the loo halfway through and went and threw up from the pain. It was my 4th tattoo so I was really shocked.

Blueuggboots · 05/11/2021 05:42

I had a tattoo at the top of my back. It finished off with some really fine writing. God, that was sore!!!

polkadotpixie · 05/11/2021 09:59

The tops of my feet, really excruciating 😣

I'm pretty heavily tattooed and no tattoo has been particularly painful when it's being done but holy crap balls, the after pain in my calf tattoo was HORRIFIC. I had no idea it would be so bad. I woke up the following morning and I honestly thought I'd brown my leg in my sleep. I couldn't weight bear at all, it was so swollen it looked like a painted ham and the lymph that was seeping out of it was shocking. It took a whopping ten days to die down so I could walk normally.

Foot definitely !

amusedbush · 05/11/2021 10:31

I’m heavily tattooed and most are fine but the top of my foot was painful. I also have a large chest piece and I was expecting the sternum to be bad but it was actually the top of my shoulders that hurt. It was awful, a pain that made me feel sick and I actually cried Blush

makelovenotpetrol · 05/11/2021 10:32

I'm heavily tattooed but ribs are something else! I knew it would hurt though

NotMyCat · 05/11/2021 10:33

Inner ankle was sore! Especially over the bone
My back was painful but it was 5hrs so expected it to be

UndeadSlut · 05/11/2021 10:37

The colour bit on my thigh. The black outline was fine and I was feeling quite smug - thunder thighs obviously are good for some things! But the colour was for some reason way more painful, about 5 hours in I hit my wall and the last hour was excruciating. I'm glad I did it though, I love it, and I'm still planning more!

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 05/11/2021 10:56

My rib cage. I swear I could feel the need bouncing off my bones

AlbusDumbledore2234 · 05/11/2021 11:00

I don't have any proper body tattoos as such but I did have permenant discrete eyeliner done last year. It looks fab but it was torture Grin
Despite plenty of numbing gel my eyes are very sensitive and watery so it was all washed away before it really had time to work.
I love how it looks but probably won't rush to have it touched up because of the discomfort.

RedCarsGoFaster · 05/11/2021 11:11

@UndeadSlut same! I have one massive and one tiny tattoo. My massive one, I could have sat for the lining for days. The colouring in was mostly OK, but there is a piece of flesh at the back of the knee the size of a 20 pence piece which was AGONY! I've no idea why, just this particular little spot! But yes, 6hrs in was me hitting the wall. I had to come back in for the final 3hrs.

It feels like theyre just tattooing the bones themselves !!
LynnInAVan · 05/11/2021 11:13

Feet. There were tears

vampirethriller · 05/11/2021 11:27

My foot! The outline was sore but colouring it in nearly made me sick.

Same! I was limping for a week, it was so bad!

Is it more painful than, say, a bikini wax? I don’t have any tattoos but I would like one.

Mylee · 05/11/2021 12:00

I've had both calves, both shins, ribs, sternum, ankles, stomach and a large chest piece and all of those were so easy compare to a tiny one on my kneecap. It was meant to be a large mandala but I never went back to get it finished as I couldn't face itGrin

SmartCar · 05/11/2021 12:09

My foot wasn't too bad pain wise but it tickled like buggery. Inner elbow area was agony

polkadotpixie · 05/11/2021 12:33

@MrsCardone I found my feet far more painful than a bikini wax but my inner forearm considerably less painful, I think it depends on the location

MaybeAMoaner · 05/11/2021 12:58

I have a full sleeve and found the inner elbow crease EXCRUCIATING
My eyes watered with that one.
And I like to think I have a high pain threshold.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 05/11/2021 13:12

Armpits, kneecaps, palms of hands. Tits and fanny surprisingly weren't that bad.

BurntTheFuckOut · 05/11/2021 13:28

I’m heavily tattooed, and don’t usually feel any pain, but having my ribs done almost broke me! I could feel my bones vibrating under my skin and it was just a thoroughly unpleasant sensation on top of the pain.

TheresOnlyOneWayOfLife · 05/11/2021 13:42

Definitely top of my foot. I left teeth marks in the chair

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/11/2021 13:42

I found them all similar to be honest but around the knee area probably the worst. I have lots of tattoos - both lower arms/wrists, side of hand, finger ornaments, upper inner arms, ribs/underboob, hip, belly, collarbone, thighs, knee/calf, shins and feet.

Laser removal was more painful than any of them. Literally like being burned with a white hot poker. I had 15 sessions then a cover up.
