Just booked tickets to the Nutcracker at the Royal Opera House for my mum's Christmas present. We live in the sticks, so please send me your best recommendations for some great food places to have dinner while we're there!

Clos Maggiore

Youcancallmeval · 04/11/2021 20:45

Boulevard

SiobhanSharpe · 04/11/2021 20:46

Rules, if they like traditional English food (cooked very well indeed) and/or game.

HelloDulling · 04/11/2021 20:48

Drinks at the Covent Garden Hotel.

Haus1234 · 04/11/2021 20:48

10 cases - French small plates, the best butter I’ve ever tasted

HelloDulling · 04/11/2021 20:49

And I’d walk over to J Sheekey’s for dinner. Ten mins from the ROH, and my favourite restaurant in the world.

SiobhanSharpe · 04/11/2021 20:49

Or Joe Allen's if you fancy American style food, and really good cocktails. Buzzy and fun.

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/11/2021 20:49

@Seaweedhair

Clos Maggiore
One of my best nights out!
Hosum · 04/11/2021 20:50

Another vote for clos maggiore

TwinklyBranch · 04/11/2021 20:52

Thought this thread was going to be about soup flavours. Disappointed. Grin

SiobhanSharpe · 04/11/2021 20:52

The Opera Tavern, just across from the ROH for excellent tapas, Spanish food and sherry.

fruitypancake · 04/11/2021 21:07

Chichetti - Italian tapas . Lovely food and cocktails

PittaMyBread · 04/11/2021 21:13

Christopher’s on Wellington Street....very good steak yum yum!

bearlyactive · 04/11/2021 21:25

Pasta Brown is good - not expensive, quick service, handy because we were in a rush

MarriedNotAtFirstSight · 04/11/2021 21:29

Brassiere Zedel!!!!!

AnnaMagnani · 04/11/2021 21:37

10 Cases, Clos Maggiore, Brasserie Zedel, Barrafina

We tend to end up back at Barrafina

TrussOnABus · 04/11/2021 21:46

Just perusing some of these menus...how I wish we were staying for a few nights! They all look amazing.

Rules is the winner for me so far but J Sheekey is a very close second - both have oysters though so we're good either way Grin

Oh, if you like fish check out Parson's. The online menu is really short, but there are lots of daily specials. V. handy for the ROH.

Daughterpanic · 04/11/2021 22:17

Some great ones mentioned particularly clos maggiore, and rules but no ones mentioned balthazar

Noeuf · 04/11/2021 22:20

I love seven dials and end up in Rosso Pomodoro or Dishoom usually

Whosafraidofvirginiawoofwoof · 04/11/2021 22:22

Rules is at its best at Christmas time: amazing traditional festive decorations so I’d go there (we actually try to go every Christmas as a tradition). If it wasn’t Christmas I’d recommend the Opera Tavern as pp said

Donotgogentle · 04/11/2021 22:24

@HelloDulling

And I’d walk over to J Sheekey’s for dinner. Ten mins from the ROH, and my favourite restaurant in the world.
Don’t you find Sheekey’s stuck up? It’s the only smart restaurant I’ve ever been to where the staff had an unpleasant attitude.

Not a regular though, I might have been unlucky.

OhThatChicken · 04/11/2021 22:27

Frenchie. The bacon scones haunted my lockdown dreams.

Donotgogentle · 04/11/2021 22:27

I like the Oystermen on Henrietta Street. Have only ever eaten outside though, the inside is small. Amazing food.

ElaineMarieBenes · 04/11/2021 22:28

Cafe Murano (Tavistock Street) - enjoy 😉
