How long do a pack of 10 socks last your child?

6 months? 8 months? A year?

About a year.

TokyoSushi · 02/11/2021 16:10

School socks, about 6 months, 'weekend socks' literally about 3 weeks, the somehow they've all disappeared!

Buddyhobbs · 02/11/2021 16:14

They disappear here too. DS is good to put all his clothes into washing baskets but always seems to forget the socks.

I reckon after a month I would struggle to find a matching pair.

DS1 - until they are threadbare

DS2 - barely make it a week, he has a habit of taking them off and just losing them Hmm

SickAndTiredAgain · 02/11/2021 16:17

A few days. I think she might eat them. The number of bloody toddler socks I’ve lost is ridiculous.

MedusasBadHairDay · 02/11/2021 16:18

Well I bought DS a 10 pack of school socks in September, and this morning he declared he absolutely couldn't find any socks at all, so.. less than 2 months.

boobot1 · 02/11/2021 16:22

I've bought about 50 pairs since September, he has about 3 left!

DappledThings · 02/11/2021 16:31

Till they grow out of them so maybe 2 years?

myheartskippedabeat · 02/11/2021 16:32

I just buy loads now
No more sock stress

StrongerOrWeaker · 02/11/2021 16:33

Till they grow out of them!

makelovenotpetrol · 02/11/2021 16:33

About 5 minutes

Ozanj · 02/11/2021 16:35

I get the ones that have large age ranges (eg 0-3 etc) but tend to lose them to the washing machine a lot. DS has had 20 pairs in (nearly) 2 years.

Theyellowflamingo · 02/11/2021 16:36

My kids have more like 20-25 pairs at any one time between school and non school and trainer liners etc etc. But they last about a year to eighteen months before they’re either too grubby/small/worn through. We don’t lose any.

LastToBePicked · 02/11/2021 16:39

Some we’ve had for years and handed down from child to child. Some disappear almost immediately. Some get worn through rapidly by them running round outdoors in them.

SirHonkers · 02/11/2021 16:41

Probably 5 day's if I'm lucky.

faithfulbird20 · 02/11/2021 16:43

How do people make them last more than 6 months? Do you have more than 10? Wash them buy hand? Dry them on the radiators? My 4 year old started wearing hers last June and now some of them look shrunk and worn out. They're trainer liner socks btw.

Pack of ten?

Ten days. Grin

toastedsandwiches · 02/11/2021 16:48

@Pumpkinstace - beat me to it - yep mine 10 days - if we're lucky!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 02/11/2021 16:49

Depends if they all match or if they are different designs. I think we have a sock stealing poltergeist.

Fabuleuse · 02/11/2021 16:49

Mostly til they're outgrown. DS2 has quite a few handed down from DS1. The odd pair gets holes but mostly they last. I don't do anything special, usually buy M&S and don't tumble dry them.

wineandcheeseplease · 02/11/2021 16:50

Yup 10 days here too

SallySkelington · 02/11/2021 16:50

10 days!

MonkeyPuddle · 02/11/2021 16:50

I lose approximately 50% of socks per wash.

Cookingbynumbers · 02/11/2021 16:51

As soon as you wash and dry socks they look like sad little rags tbh.

Up until age 8/9 mine grew out of socks before they were worn out. Now they grow more slowly, socks last about a year I find.
Makes no difference how much they cost.
They’ve never lost any though. Mainly because ds can’t put his on easily due to very sweaty feet so once they’re on, they stay on until he’s home.

I just wash them and they get line dried or tumble dried depending on the time of year. I didn't know sock supply maintenance was such a thing.

I do count them in pairs into the washing machine and then back onto the line/into the dryer as well so random ones don't disappear.
