DH has such form for sending several messages in quick succession, instead of just one.
I hate the constant pinging, especially when I'm doing something else and a string of messages every 2 secs keep interrupting me.

He's just taken DS3 for an ear check up, then sent 5 messages within 1 min:
"just been seen"
"ear's fine"
"drum healed"
"all good"
"coming shortly"

🙄 is it hard to combine those words in one message?
I guess action speaks louder than asking again to stop so I sent this back.
🤣

tell me, who else does this?

I’m so guilty of doing this! If it makes up for it at all I piss myself off doing it

RollWithThePunches · 02/11/2021 20:02

Mine never texts but replies, when told to (!?!?) with “k”.

Mitzi067 · 02/11/2021 20:02

You are all very lucky to receive replies! My daughter rarely replies, as she says she is always busy wfh. I can tell also she can take hours to open my text, simply is not curious as to what my message is about! So annoying but she does same to rest of the family.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 02/11/2021 20:07

You could always turn your phone off.

LandGirlJudy · 02/11/2021 20:42

I hear a notification and think "Oo, who is that?" Then another ping, and another, ping ping ping ping. No need to wonder, only my DD does this and it drives me mad.

Also, I'm not turning my sound off in case I miss something important.

CookPassBabtridge · 02/11/2021 20:56

Hate this! Thankfully don't know anyone who does it, phew Grin

Harls1969 · 02/11/2021 21:30

DD (23) does this on messenger. Drip feeds messages, always with a tiny delay between each part. Just give me the fucking information. Confused

CaptainNelson · 02/11/2021 21:43

All 3 of my teenaged kids do it.
And have the cheek to complain about me sending such long messages, that they can't be bothered to read them (think 2-3 lines of text). Why can't I just send it in separate messages? Then they wouldn't have to engage their brains...
Christ, I despair

Chocolatehamper · 02/11/2021 21:56

My 15 year old ASD son does this! He can type at lightning speed so they sound like a bloody machine gun pinging off! Drives me insane but if I don't reply, I get a stream of steadily more pissed off messages shouting 'MUM' at me!

Heartsandroses · 02/11/2021 21:58

My son does this

Him-mum!
Mum!
Guess what?
Mum!
Mum!
I have news!
Mum!
Answer me!
Mum!
Are you dead?
Or at work?
Or asleep?
Why u not answering me?
Mum!
Mum!

Me-what?

Him-I’ve just done the worlds best shit
And it was awesome!
Oh and I bought 4 gerbils
Don’t forget you now have to buy them Xmas presents
And another for the dog
And don’t forget mine
And my girlfriend too
Oh and advent calendars
For us
Not the pets
They don’t need advent calendars
We do
Oh and lend me 50 barries (he means £50)
Love you

Drives me insane

OrlaPeely · 02/11/2021 22:06

There's a setting on your phone which makes the enter key send the message. If he's got that turned on he might just be trying to start a new line and it sends automatically and he doesn't know how to turn it off?

daisyjgrey · 02/11/2021 22:23

Ha! I do this. So does my sister and most of friends come to think of it. Although nobody I know has a phone that has made an actual noise since 2004 so it doesn't really matter.

Put your phone on silent like a normal person Grin

Bertiebiscuit · 02/11/2021 22:37

No one - that's mental

pinkpirlie · 02/11/2021 23:09

I fear I'm about to get lynched but I do this. I don't even think about it. I just write, send, write, send. Sometimes a message can be longer, but I generally send regularly and start a new text with the next bit of what I want to say.

My mom always says she knows it is me messaging as it tings over and over.
But I've never had anyone complain about it, and I don't think I could stop as I'm also a really fast , touch typist on my phone, so it would be a lot of work to reprogramme my muscle memory.

soundsystem · 02/11/2021 23:14

@GorgeousLadyofWrestling

I realised that I do this - I think I’ve turned text messaging into instant messaging. So I just post conversational bits back and forth like I would with whatsapp or Slack.

My 19 year old. It's very annoying although since he's the only person I know who does this I do know it's him when I hear it.

I may however start doing it to my ex who doesn't seem to be able to process any detailed messages or instructions from me. Perhaps using single words in multiple texts may help his difficulties with understanding more than one point at a time about arrangements for DCs and organising his diary accordingly. Grin

Imy06 · 03/11/2021 03:13

I feel you. I have a couple of friends who do this and it gives me an irrational inside rage 😂😂

Teachertired92 · 03/11/2021 03:21

I do this when telling a long story so people don’t have to wait ages! Otherwise I text everything in one message

Blueink · 03/11/2021 04:55

Turn
Your
Alerts
Off!
His breaking down of the message is excessive and annoying but your (lack of) management of alerts it’s what’s actually disturbing you

Pancakeorcrepe · 03/11/2021 05:22

Put your phone on silence!

readingismycardio · 03/11/2021 05:25

I do this. Whoops

Fluffmum · 03/11/2021 07:50

Mine doesn’t own a phone so it’s worse.

HarriR · 03/11/2021 08:36

My favourite is when I call him at work- he answers but then says he's busy. So why answer?!

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 03/11/2021 08:37

I do this OP , mostly to DH and he does the same. We also reply to each one separately 😅.
With others I've been known to reply with a K for okay or a 👌/👍 until my DB told me it was annoying .

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 03/11/2021 08:44

Depending on her phone/settings, she can read messages on screen without opening them. Avoids the double tick on WhatsApp and the pressure to reply. I read on screen and only go into WhatsApp to reply if it's urgent.
