DH has such form for sending several messages in quick succession, instead of just one.
I hate the constant pinging, especially when I'm doing something else and a string of messages every 2 secs keep interrupting me.

He's just taken DS3 for an ear check up, then sent 5 messages within 1 min:
"just been seen"
"ear's fine"
"drum healed"
"all good"
"coming shortly"

🙄 is it hard to combine those words in one message?
I guess action speaks louder than asking again to stop so I sent this back.
🤣

tell me, who else does this?

I do this, usually it's because I'm typing as I'm thinking, for me it's like typing a conversation rather than an actual text message.
I know it probably annoys people but I don't know how to stop doing it! Fair enough I do write quite a bit in each text too.
My stepdad has always said he's surprised he doesn't see steam coming off my thumbs because I type so quickly.

eldersis · 01/11/2021 22:25

This has been a problem for decades.( I am old...lol)
People demanding attention. In the 80s people did this with telephone answering machines. My sister was very bad, I would find 10 messages ALL saying "phone me when you get home"

Now . with smart phones and text messages things got worse and after MULTIPLE warnings I blocked text but allowed actual phone calls. I am contactable in emergencies but I am not interested in all this day to day waffle, I just ignore the crap.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 01/11/2021 22:27

My DSD does this, usually about 11pm when we’ve just fallen asleep. Also types LiKe ThIs WhIcH iS nOt OnLy BlOoDy AnNoYiNg BuT iMpOsSiBlE tO sCaN rEaD

BiLuminous · 01/11/2021 22:34

I do this. I have ADHD though and it pains me to wait to write it all out together. Ha!

@BiLuminous

I have ADHD too and I hate the distraction it causes to me!
It's already such an effort to focus but I'm ok with one or 2 pings - especially when I'm waiting for news (like today) or when kids need help etc.
After that it's like listening to a woodpecker on ecstasy

Funnily enough I have that problem too, even though I do it myself. I only have a few friends who write like this though so when i need to concentrate I will mute them. It's landed me in a bit of bother before though when they've asked a favour and I've missed it...

StCharlotte · 01/11/2021 22:52

Obviously none of these people had to pay per text Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 01/11/2021 23:03

@BiLuminous

I guess you didn't miss much if they wanted a favour😉
if DH & all the kids are home and I don't want to be bothered I usually just switch off my phone.
during the 2nd lockdown I barely had it on, only to play a bit of Hay Day and do my Spanish lessons on Duolingo!

But with 5 of our kids travelling fully or partially independently I just don't have the luxury to mute messages or calls when anyone is out.

I don't do this in terms of one or two words but my DD and I do it as single sentences. Like instant messenger. It allows it to flow as a live conversation. If you do longer messages you can be half way through and they reply and you then have to re-draft the opening sentence to respond to their point. It also helps if you're in an environment like a dentists waiting room or checkout where you may be interrupted by the staff. It's quite practical. But I only do it with a few people not everyone.

Bouledeneige · 02/11/2021 09:25

My DD sent a picture of her dressed up in fancy dress as an english dad on 'holliday' with her friend James in the background in only his pants so this was our chat....

I find it so annoying when people send loads of messages, I start to reply to the first message and then they send another message and then i change my message to include what they have sent in the second message and another one comes through.

Or sometimes I find myself having to wait to make sure they have sent all the messages because I’m not sure they have finished. It’s so annoying

Alleycat1 · 02/11/2021 17:41

My stepdaughter does this. It drives her father mad!

Pineappleheart · 02/11/2021 17:50

Yes! Family member living in Dubai does this every Friday evening for ages, when he’s pissed up, soooo annoying.

itssquidstella · 02/11/2021 18:01

I do this 🤷‍♀️

I press 'send' instead of 'enter' so each paragraph is a separate message.

itssquidstella · 02/11/2021 18:02

I actually find it easier to read a succession of short messages than a chunk of unparagraphed text sent as a single message.

MrsWorriedMother · 02/11/2021 18:04

My son and one of my friends does that. It drives me absolutely nuts.

chaosmaker · 02/11/2021 18:18

tell him it wastes energy, OP. Emails do. We forget all this e communication (including this post) need energy to store on servers and all the electric needed to run the coolers etc. One msg is more than enough

JonSnowIsALoser · 02/11/2021 18:27

My sister does it. She'll send a quick question, and by the type I've managed to type an answer, there are 10 more messages with extra comments, possible answers, suggestions and more questions. Drives me mad. I don't respond straightaway anymore, just wait until the barrage of pinging subsides.

StrawberrySanta · 02/11/2021 19:05

@CloseYourEyesAndSee

Turn your ringer off It's madness to have message sounds switched on in 2021
Genuinely wondering why? I don't have a smart watch to show messages, so why not have the sound on? I lose my phone a lot during the day by putting it on the washer/windowsil/bedroom side and walking away etc, if it's not on loud I can't then find it by calling from another mobile. What reasons are there to not have it on loud?
PeachyPeachTrees · 02/11/2021 19:14

It is annoying when 20 messages could have been about 3! Luckily not many people I know do it.

TrulyPistoff · 02/11/2021 19:16

Tell him to use the audio text.

Mummabug18 · 02/11/2021 19:22

@Caerus

Mine doesn’t do that but does answer to tell me he’ll call me back as he’s busy, then calls back in 5 mins.. just don’t answer if you can’t talk?! You get family do the many messages thing - it is annoying!
My FIL trumps this... He will answer the phone and tell you with serious attitude that you have inconvenienced him as he was UNABLE TO ANSWER (Eh???!!!) Then get mad when you say it can wait til later when he's free to talk and you need to just tell him now! 🤦🏻‍♀️
